Legio Nona Hispana-- The Ninth Spanish Legion. One of the finest and strongest legions of the Roman Empire. Sent to the British isles in the 50th century to stop Celtic uprisings, they claimed victory putting down the first rebellion of Venutius between 52 and 57AD. They suffered their first major defeat under Quintus Petillius Cerialis in the rebellion of Boudica, and were reinforced with legionaires from the Germania provinces. Around 71AD, the Ninth constructed a new fortress at Eboracum(York), along the Hadrian Wall. They were later sent across the wall to stop another Celtic uprising. The Ninth Legion marched into the mists of northern Britain--and they were never seen again. Thousands of men from Rome's oldest and most feared legion disappeared and their eagle standard was lost. It is now the start of a new age for the mighty Roman empire. The Ninth has recovered their eagle standard and is ready to march into battle for the glory of Rome once more.
