Just wondering what might be in there apart from an old magical smithy. Did the Moon Clan have something to do with it, experimenting with runecrafting before they mastered the Lunar Spells?

The reason why I came up with this is because energy from the altars would have had to be gathered to the Elemental Workshop, and with the contraptions, puzzles and elementals protecting the basic resources for making the armour there, could V's followers have done some work there protecting something?

Battered Book: Early in the fifth age, a new ore was discovered. This ore has a unique property of absorbing, transforming or focusing elemental energy. A workshop was erected close by to work this new material. The workshop was set up for artisans and inventors to be able to come and create devices made from the unique ore, found only in the village of the Seer's.

After some time of successful industry the true power of this ore became apparent as greater and more powerful weapons were created. Realising the threat this posed, the magi of the time closed down the workshop and bound it under lock and key, also trying to destroy all knowledge of manufacturing processes.

Ragged Book: Frustrated, Vitruvius turned his attentions to the magical powers of the body, as found in the body runes of the world. Using a modulated version of the priming machine, coupled with intricate clockwork, he perfected a method of artificially replicating the energy.

Notched Book: Indeed, it wasn't too long after the body machine proved unsuccessful that Vitruvius set about creating his next device one that generated energy akin to that of cosmic magic. He hoped that the state-changing effects cosmic magic caused in other magically receptive objects could be used to change the state of an inanimate object based upon its form.

Vitruvius set about constructing a cosmic energy matrix. The matrix consisted of pillars that each contained a number of precious gemstones, which had been ground into focussing lenses on the workshop's newly installed whetstone. Through these pillars, the four base elements were passed in such a way as to generate vast amounts of cosmic energy. It was an expensive proposition that required Vitruvius to sell off much of his property, but he was so stoically determined to return his apprentice that money was no object.

As far as we are aware, the only things in the Elemental workshop are elemental ore rocks (with no idea why the ore can only be found there) and the facilities dedicated to processing the ore.

Furthermore, rather than draw from the runecrafting altars/rifts, the machines of the workshop appear to somehow fabricate runic energies through methods we, the player, do not currently understand.

Given the ore was not discovered until the early 5th age, I have my doubts that the Moon Clan played any role in the workshop's creation (maybe they had a hand in the ore's creation, but aside from geographic proximity, there's little to indicate that).

Given the ore's similarity to bane ore and rune essence (mysterious ore found only in specific places with a tendency to absorb certain things exposed to it), I'd wonder if the Stone of Jas resided for a while in a cavern below what would eventually become Seer's village (perhaps in the time immediately prior to and following Guthix bringing humans to the plane).

Finally someone mentions EW after years :)

We are still missing life, death, blood and soul energy generators (not mentioning elemental, nature, law) :D

Yea Elemental ore has unique property that makes it possible to get ''magical'' abilities only with mechanical means, without anima, rune or god energy. Lunar, Bane and Daeyalt ores have only one use, yet this ore seems more mutable.

I wonder if we can combine elemental ore with the life energy from Tower of life. Perhaps, due to connection between life and anima (god magic), we can finally make items with full resistance/nullifier to god magic, much like World Guardian is. Gods will be able to use their power, but with no effect :D

TLDR: We should have EW developed instead of divination and invention, it would fit the lore even better ;)

Couple of things:

Life is not a runic energy, and the only thing that would indicate that it is the life altar in the Gower quest (making it about as likely to be canon as the changes you make to the ge during the quest).

The elemental energies are already in the workshop, the cosmic machine works by combining the 4 elemental energies to make cosmic energy (its in one of the books).

Elemental ore seems to be just as one use as bane ore, daeyalt, or rune essence. Given Vitruvius was unable to separate his assistant's consciousness from a primed bar, it seems to possess a similar 'mutability' to rune essence. Let me explain: rune essence can absorb runic energies, but it can then be made to release that energy in a variety of forms. Elemental ore, on the other hand, can absorb the same energy. But rather than release it, the metal's form itself can be changed in order to apply the stored energy (whereas the useable forms of runestones are fairly limited).

Considering Vitruvius restored his assistant (albeit with a body of cosmic metal), I can already tell you that the tower of life is not needed to imbue life into the metal (you just need a volunteer). That being said, considering elemental bars work with runic energies and not pure anima, I highly doubt that the metal could be used to make items with resistance to divine magic.
