There needs to be a 6 month amnesty period between archaeology xp and existing quests.

I agree that while this thread's proposition makes a ton of sense and really should be at the very least considered, it creates a problem where people brand new to the skill could potentially start training effectively at level 30 or 40 instead of 1, giving them a massive advantage (because of the retroactively rewarded quest experience).

I think this could be a good way to handle that -- introduce the retroactive quest reward experience, but only 6 months after Archaeology is released.

I have another idea, though. (There's a summary of my idea at the end.)

With that definite list of all quests released prior to Archaeology that feature some kind of archaeological activity, on top of being a list of quests for which Archaeology experience could be rewarded, it also stands to reason that it would just as much be a list of quests for which a certain Archaeology level could be required. Further still, it makes more sense, I think, for a quest to require a certain level in a certain skill if it's going to reward experience in that skill. It's not a rule quests always go by, but I'd argue it's definitely a general trend.

And I do think it could make sense to retroactively add a certain Archaeology level as a requirement for those quests. Of course, that creates its own set of problems, but I think this would be the overall solution that makes the most sense in the long run, and I have ideas that I think could work well about how those problems could be resolved, too.

I think the way to do it would be to implement a waiting period between Archaeology's release, and when those certain Archaeology level requirements are officially added to those quests. Say, 3 months after Archaeology's release, the requirements are added?

There's a second part to this solution -- continued the next post.

Adding Archaeology levels as requirements to those quests as well as adding Archaeology experience rewards to them, but doing it some time after Archaeology's release, solves the issue for future players completing that content down the line. However, what about all the players who complete(d) those quests before Archaeology's release, or at least before the Archaeology level requirements and Archaeology experience rewards are officially added?

Simple. When the Archaeology level requirements and experience rewards are added to those quests, the players who had completed them previously can return to the NPC who rewards players upon completion of that quest to claim the Archaeology experience reward -- but, it can only be claimed if the player has achieved the quest's new Archaeology level requirement.

In summary
, I propose that some time after Archaeology's release (I suggest roughly 3 months), quests with Archaeological activity in them have Archaeology level requirements and experience rewards retroactively added to them. Players who complete(d) those quests before those requirements and rewards are added can return to the quest NPCs and claim the Archaeology experience reward when they meet the quest's new Archaeology level requirement.

And also a 6 month amnesty period between archaeology as a requirement for future quests.

Why?

OP, I added a link to this thread on my thread, Quests in the Making V3, under the section on Archaeology. I think your thread raises an important topic, and I think that there's a lot of overlap between the kind of person who reads and frequents my thread, and the kind of person who would be interested in this discussion.
