It has been confirmed by Mod Oliver that only 1000 of these items were released in the game, making it the rarest of the newly released discontinued holiday items, and quite likely, in my opinion, the most rare of all of the wearable/equip-able discontinued holiday items to date. I believe due to this rarity that they are greatly undervalued, and that it is only a matter of time until their true price is realised, which should rightly situate itself well above the price of a blue partyhat.

Perhaps you disagree with this rather bold statement, but, let us look at partyhats, which are the most expensive items in game, and largely assumed to be some of the most rare. I here speculate that parryhats are in fact much more common than the Holly Wreath, and do not warrant their price point based on either rarity or cosmetic appeal.

For one, partyhats were dropped ubiquitously throughout the game during the 2001 Christmas event, and then later duplicated en masse as players exploited a glitch in the software during the infamous Duplication Glitch of November 7 2003. At this time, so many partyhats had been reproduced in the game, that the pricing order shifted dramatically: Pink partyhats (now purple partyhats) were the most expensive by far before the glitch, and after, they took the place of the cheapest of the partyhats, where they stood for over a decade, until the recently noted rise of the purple partyhat, which has been a topic of discussion in these forums, although not the subject of this post.

Moreover, one has only to look at the discontinued items marketplace forum to see the sheer numbers of these items in the game: I take a look even just now and see nearly every post dedicated to a partyhat.

How often do you see a post selling a Holly Wreath? When I search it on the forums I see only four posts for buying and selling! Four! These posts are dated all the way back to October!

Clearly the Holly Wreath has incredible rarity compared to... (1)

.... the partyhats.

So why are they so expensive? There is the cosmetic appeal, of course. When they were first released, and prior to the graphical updates of the game, partyhats looked very much like a crown. So they naturally became a display of wealth. Players could walk around the game and show off their money, much like some sort of regal figure.

This no longer applies.

With the numerous cosmetic options from Solomans General Store, and the various other options in game, people can show off wealth, and look regal in a variety of different ways.

In fact funny enough, with the new graphics of the game, partyhats look very much like what they are: that is, not a crown, but a thin, coloured, paper hat.

So what keeps their price so high, and what is to stop the rise of an item with far more rarity and cosmetic appeal?

In my opinion, prices remain high only because of price manipulation. Like a publically owned corporation in the real world, the owners and buyers of the hats agree on the price that they are worth (that is, all insiders in the market for them). Their price point is no reflection of supply or demand, and that their true value in the game is in fact much lower.

So perhaps in time, an item like the incredibly rare Holly Wreath will truly reflect its rarity and unique cosmetic look, and this should situate it at a higher price than even those silly paper hats.

If we only priced items by rarity, Gem Sacks would be 50b and Partyhats would be 1b. Unfortunately, the market doesn't work that way.

Also Rubber Turkeys were re-released and they were in the same line as black santas/holly wreath. Just because there's 1000 in the game doesn't mean that they won't re-release more. Same fear also gets priced in tokens as well.

Yes, I agree that the fear of releasing the items again factors into the price as well; though that is not to say that Jagex could not release the so-called traditional rare items in the future as well.

When I stocked up on magical eggs in 2014, we were told they were to be discontinued, full stop. Then they released them again the following year.

The same thing happened, to a degree, with the crown of seasons. This was another item we were led to believe was to be discontinued, yet was introduced again, as the seasonal crowns, given to every player in 2018. They would, I imagine, be worth at least 100m a piece now had it not been for that.

Looking at the general disdain Jagex seems to have with rare items, I can certainly see them releasing the traditional rares in the future as well. There have already been suggestions of them adding them into the GE via grand exchange, to keep stocks afloat, and in all likelihood this has already taken place in the game countless times, for all we know. It would explain why items like masks are so cheaply priced even though they are around the same age as the party hats.

The point I'm making is that all rares and discontinued items are at risk of reintroduction to the game, and so it really comes down to rarity and cosmetic appeal.

Holly Wreath won't be getting re-released, they even went to all the trouble of creating the Wreath crown token so they didn't ever need too.

It was stated in the 2014 news post "Its owner also gets a prize, which could be the rarest of all Christmas gifts: the holly wreath."
Rubber turkeys on the other hand weren't listed in this sentence and weren't rare to start with so no big deal.

To see a player wearing a holly wreath ingame means that person is 1 of 1000. Not everyone can own one compared to Partyhats which aren't that special when they've been dropped in 1000's, duped and many re-introduced by old accounts being hacked over the years. Partyhats are that common is it even a wow when everyone at the party is wearing one?

Jagex will think about releasing old rares locked on banned accounts (bank bidders) before they ever decide to ruin holly wreath for the fun of it.

I have 100% confidence Jagex won't release it again and i've heard the same waffle about them re-releasing for the past 5 years lol.
A holly wreath is like a few days wages to own the rarest item ingame, which is cheap when people spend thousands on buying xp to own a cape everyone has.

The sheep can think what they want it doesn't bother me for 71 bonds it's a bargain. Holly wreath looks really good if you know how to dress.

Jagex's plan to combat partyhat price manipulators? New/Old Partyhats will be re-released before Wreath IMO.

Partyhats in GE? soon tm
