Known Issues & Bugs

Dates are estimates of when each issue began or was first recorded

1. Disbanding a clan does not always work (July 2018)
- A fix was released for this that did not work (28 May 2019)
Mod Shauny said:
If you are now the last person remaining in a Clan and have a Citadel you can now reliably leave that clan, thus disbanding it.

2. Clan Banner does not update (December 2017)

3. Colors on a Clan Banner do not always match Vexillum color in game (Unknown)
- This is a shading issue. Changing color shades slightly will correct it.
- Due to issue #2, Clan Banners cannot be updated currently.

4. Clan Forum buttons for bold, italics, etc. to add BBcodes are missing and post character limit does not count down (November 2015)
- Mod Allstar confirmed that an update to jagex.com broke this

5. Clan achievement broadcasts sometimes sends duplicates (July 2018)

- This is the same issue that causes normal broadcasts to duplicate.

6. Clan Dragon sometimes appears as a different color than what was set. (Unknown)

7. Guests joining your Clan Chat from a foreign language server will trigger a join broadcast in the language of the server they are on. (Unknown)

- This is because the broadcast sends from the player’s client language

8. Depending on your computer’s time zone, the Clan Noticeboard will show an event’s date as being the day prior to the one that was set. However, the broadcast will send the correct day that was initially set. (Unknown)

9. In the NXT Client, the dance floor from the first floor of the Keep appears on the ground floor of the Citadel’s minimap. (February 2016)

10. Although using the same model, the Clan Cloak appears differently on male and female characters. (~ 2012)

11. If a player had left the Chat Channel of their previous clan before leaving the clan, they will not automatically be placed in the Chat Channel of the next clan they join. (Unknown)
- A fix was implemented for this (19 November 2018) that does not work 100% of the time.

12. The Clan Noticeboard's dropdown selections do not always register. (October 2019)
- Switching between event slots may temporarily fix this.

13. Guests do not always trigger a joining broadcast upon entering a Clan Chat. (Unknown)

14. The "search for a clanmate" box on Clan Pages no longer auto-fills when typing members' names. (August 2015)

15. Clan members who are muted by their clan can bypass the mute by chatting from the Lobby. (July 2018)

16. A Bug is causing some players to not be able to found new clans. (May 2020)

17. When recruiting, a recruiter may receive the following messages after their recruit has successfully joined the clan: (May 2020)
- "That player is currently busy."
- "Your invite to [name] has expired."

If a clan related issue or bug is not listed here, or an issue listed here has been fixed, please post on this thread to let us know.

Top Ten Tips!

Below are the top ten tips provided by our clan leaders. They cover all areas of clan administration and will help you gain an advantage and avoid pitfalls as your clan grows.

Tip 1: Communication!

It is one of the most important things to keep in mind when running a clan. Make sure you regularly catch up with your Admin team, and don't make big decisions without discussing it with those involved first. Be approachable; encourage your Admins and clanmates to speak up if something is bothering them. As the leader of a clan, your members need to know they can come to you, or a co-leader, with any clan related issues, comments, or suggestions.

Proper communication prevents a wide range of disputes, particularly within your Admin team.

Tip 2: Keep your Clan Chat Friendly

If the CC has a friendly, active, and open atmosphere, this will spread around in-game and more players will want to join.

Tip 3: Be Confident in Yourself

Always remember why you founded your clan, and never stop working towards achieving your goals just because you run into some obstacles. Maintain a strong appearance in the presence of your members, and don't let a troublesome member faze you. Keeping a level head will help you deal with a lot of issues, whether minor or complex. Keep your Admin team informed of any issues, and work together for solutions. Having a successful clan involves a lot of work; don't try to do it by yourself.

Tip 4: Start Small, but Build a Strong Foundation

Focus more on the quality of your members rather than the quantity of members in your clan.

Tip 5: Don’t Be Too Strict

Give your members freedom, and enlist the help of those that show an interest in contributing in a positive way. Allow clan members to run their own events.

Tip 6: Be Unique

Have something about your clan to make it stand out from other clans; unique clans stand out and attract more members.

Tip 7: Be Professional When Recruiting

Create a professional, well-worded recruitment thread to attract players looking for a clan.

See Recruitment Thread Advice for more information

Tip 8: Be Trustworthy

If you make a mistake, own up to it. Your members will respect you more than if you try to hide something or don't accept responsibility for questionable actions.

Tip 9: Be Open To Suggestions

Avoid running your clan purely by your own beliefs; this will make you lose members. Take ideas from your clan members and use them to shape your clan. Be flexible. A clan of any size will have members from all walks of life, ages, personalities, and opinions. People working together can make the clan better for everyone. Make important decisions based on an outcome that will be best for the clan as a whole.

Tip 10: Have Rules

For a clan to function without chaos, rules are a necessity. Your clan’s rules, how ranks are determined, and the responsibilities of your Admin team and members should be clear and easy to understand. Keep it simple.

How to Recruit Effectively:

Once you’ve determined the purpose for your clan, you will need to start recruiting. Here are a few pointers that may help on your way to creating your perfect clan.

Recruiting - The Basics

• Show as many advantages to being in your clan in as short a time as possible.
• Provide both long and short term benefits of joining.

Methods of Recruitment

• Wander about as a clan advertising to players you find.
• Place your Clan Vexillum in a crowded area and to advertise your clan.
• Talk to random strangers, whilst skilling, training, killing monsters, and ask if they are in a clan and if they'd like to join one.
• Use the recruitment forums; they are your best friends, so don't be afraid to use them!
• Take part in large events, such as JMod hosted events, which will get your clan noticed.
• Invite your friends, and get your friends to invite their friends.

Things to Avoid

• Don't be pushy.
• Don't just recruit any and everyone; you need to find players who will fit into the clan.
• Don't offer only long term or only short term incentives.
• Don’t pay players to join your clan.
• Don't let things which will show you up appear (misbehaving).
• When posting invites in the Looking for a Clan forum, try to read what people are looking for in a clan before posting. Make a personalized invitation post, rather than copy & paste the same invitation each time. Players are more likely to feel like you’re interested in them and not just increasing your clan size by personalizing your invitation to them.

How to Keep Your Members Engaged

Once you have found some members to join your merry rabble, you will need to find ways to keep them engaged with the clan. Below is some advice that can help with this!

Member Engagement - The Basics

• Hold regular events.
• Make sure the clan chat is active, and encourage members to join in.
• Allow members to ask questions and raise queries about the clan.

Methods of Engagement

• Group events with your clan
• Fun Challenges, such as most xp in a time period
• Clan vs Clan events
• Friendly Competitions, such as quizzes and video clips
• Hold meetings to get members interested in what’s happening in the clan and get input and interest from them.
• Involve your members in the decisions and direction of the clan. This will increase member involvement and responsibility. In this way, you can also recruit the best staff members.

Things to Avoid

• Excluding people from events
• Too many or too few things going on in a time period

General Tips

• Use a range of different methods to engage your members rather than the same ones over and over.
• Listen to suggestions from your members.
• Be open to trying new things.
• Provide awards to those who attend events, such as ranking people up who participate, are active, and friendly.

Clan Administration

So, you have members and event ideas, now you need to sort out who is going to help you run the clan.

Admin Responsibilities - The Basics

• Share out responsibility, and don't do everything yourself. Aim to maintain order.
• Admin ranked members should be around to help you maintain order, spread recent clan changes to members, and help newer clan members.

Selecting Admins - Tips

• Choose people who are active, well liked/known within the clan, and are generally helpful.

Things to Avoid

• Don't decide ranks or give special treatment because someone is a friend. A good friend doesn't mean they are a good clan member or leader.
• Don't be too strict or too lenient.
• Don't be biased. A leader should be impartial in all cases.
• Don’t abuse your privileges as a leader. You might be the top person, but in the end, you rely on your members.
• If a member wishes to leave, let them. The last thing you want is drama and encouraging "childish behaviour" to get what they want. If you give one what they want, others will be pointing at that.

Tools for Admins

• Provide another chat that Admins can go into and sort other problems out with troublesome members/people when you’re not there.

How to Deal with Clan Issues

Occasionally, issues may occur within the clan, such as a fight between members, a lone disruptive player, or issues with another clan.

Dealing with Clan Issues - The Basics

• Sort them out as soon as possible. Don’t let issues linger for too long, or they will most certainly get worse!
• Hold authority. Don’t let disruptive players bring you down to their level. Solve the problem as a leader, and don’t become part of the problem yourself.
• Make sure issues don't repeat.
• Follow the clan’s rules, and set an example for others to follow. Just because you set and enforce the rules doesn’t mean you’re above the rules.
• Remain impartial; don't take sides in a dispute.

Methods to Settle Issues

• Speak carefully with those involved.
• Decide how you want the clan to be and what rules you are going to have
• Try getting the main people who have conflicts into a separate chat. Get them to talk to each other to give their point of view, and you (as the leader) should mediate and ensure that no one interrupts or blatantly 'trolls' others.
• Listen to all sides of the story. Check up on their stories, and look for evidence/witnesses.
• Consult with your Admins or Staff on what to do, and ask them for advice. Making an informed group decision will often work out better than trying to solve a problem on your own.

Things to Avoid

• Don’t cause more problems
• Don’t jump in too early if there is no issue present. Often times, issues will work themselves out without needing to intervene. Be sure that it’s necessary to take action before you do.

Tools to Help

• Other clan leaders
• Forgiveness - Learn to forgive and forget. However, don't give too many chances. If a member is disruptive and breaking clan rules, make a point that there will be consequences for bad behaviour.

Clan Diplomacy

You can't run a clan in RuneScape without having some interaction with other clans, either rivals or allies. Below are tips on how to avoid all our war, or how to organise wars if that’s what you're interested in! :D

Clan Diplomacy - The Basics

• Join a union. Not all of them are out there to seize control of your clan’s assets. Join one, meet new clans, attend events, and create bonds with other clans.
• Try joining ladders. These will create healthy competition between you and other clans, along with you and your clan getting to know other clans and increase your experience with other clans.

Methods of Diplomacy/Warfare

• Talk to leaders in-game to get to know them and set up events. It creates a more personal touch with the clans you wish to interact with.

Things to Avoid

• Getting into arguments or conflicts with other clans. Some clans can be powerful and large and can result in unpleasant scenarios.

Clan Recruitment Thread Advice

Creating a recruitment thread on the RuneScape forums is a great way to advertise your clan to potential recruits. Follow this advice to create the best recruitment thread for your clan.

1. Each clan is permitted to have only one recruitment thread, so
choose the recruitment section that best suits your clan
:

Under 100 Combat: For clans that have a combat level requirement below 100
100 Combat and Over: For clans that have a combat level requirement of 100+
Skilling Clans: For clans that focus on skilling or have skilling level requirements
Social & Community Clans: For clans that mainly socialize and have no requirements to join
Specialist, Questing, & Minigames: For clans that focus on Questing, Minigames, or do not fit into the other four categories
• For clans based in OSRS, use the Old School Clans section

2.
Decide who will be the author of your clan’s recruitment thread
. Forum posts cannot be edited by other players, so you’ll want someone who can reliably manage the thread if posts need to be edited in the future.

3.
Choose an appropriate thread title
. Forum thread titles have a limit of 30 characters, so try to be concise and descriptive. Rather than titling your thread “Recruiting for my clan!”, include your clan’s name (or an abbreviation) and an important aspect of the clan, such as a major requirement that must be met to join. For example, a clan with a 100+ combat level requirement may title their thread, “Clan RS - 100+ Combat.” Also, players are unable to edit thread titles, so you must make a title change request on Forum Help if needed.

4.
Create a unique recruitment thread
. Copying and plagiarizing another clan’s recruitment thread will cause your thread to get locked. A unique recruitment thread will help your clan stand out from the others on the forums.

5.
Be descriptive and format your posts
. You don’t want to overwhelm players with walls of text as they will most likely not read it. Include descriptive posts about your clan that are formatted for better readability to allow players who may be interested in joining your clan to get all of the information they’re looking for. Including a table of contents can help players navigate your thread more easily.

It’s a good idea to use more than one post for a recruitment thread to include information about your clan. This allows you to advertise various aspects of your clan, such as requirements, rules, stats, a list of your Admin team, types of events your clan enjoys, etc. If you think you might include more information at a later time, be sure to create reserve posts to save the space.

6.
Bump your thread to keep it relevant
. As new posts are made and new threads are created, your recruitment thread will be bumped farther down the page, making it more difficult for other players to find. All you need to do is click the ‘bump’ button (if you’re the thread author), or make a post on the thread, and it will be moved back to the first slot on page one of the forum section your thread is in. As per the Forum Rules, bumping is limited to every 10 minutes, so do not bump your thread more frequently than this. Just keeping the thread on the first page will keep your clan’s thread relevant.

7.
Respond to posts that other players make on your thread
. Acknowledging these posts will show that your clan is actively checking the thread. If no posts are responded to, it may turn away players who get the impression that your clan either does not check the thread or is no longer active.

How do I change my clan's name?

1. Only Clan Owners are able to do this.
2. Go to Clan Camp [south of Falador] and talk to the Scribe to the south.
3. Go through the dialogue, and select the option to rename your clan.

Notes:

• Clan names can only be changed once every 28 days.

• Once a clan's name is changed, the old name becomes available immediately. Unlike player names which display a "last known as" name after a change, there is no system in place which tracks clans' previous names.

• Clan names must not breach the Rules of RuneScape, so you must choose an appropriate name. If your clan’s name is inappropriate, the name will be removed by a JMod, and your clan will be given a default name. You will then be given the option to choose a new clan name, or permanently lose the ability to change your clan’s name.

• It is not possible to change your clan’s name to alter the case of the lettering. If your clan name is “CLAN 123” and you’d like the name “Clan 123,” it isn’t possible to change the name because it will say the name is already taken. However, you may request this change for your clan name here: Inactive Clan Names. Just fill out the template and explain the situation.

3. In the window that opens, click on ‘Permissions’ in the top right.

4. In the left column, select the rank whose permissions you would like to change.
5. In the top row, select what kind of permissions you would like to change [Admin, Chat, Events, Citadel, Skills]
6. Tick or untick a box to give or remove a permission to that rank.

Notes

• Permissions can only be given by rank. You cannot change the permissions for each specific person.

• Some permissions are only available for Admin+ ranks. Some permissions cannot be removed from Admin+ ranks.

• Make sure you are in Clan Chat when doing this.

Who can assign clan permissions?

Generally speaking, clan members ranked Admin+ can update rank permissions for any rank below their own as long as they have access to the permission themselves. However, there are several permissions which require higher ranks to update.

What clan permissions can be assigned to each rank?

While permissions must be assigned by Admin+ (or higher) ranks, the following permissions may be toggled for each rank:

Recruit: Enter Keep, Enter Citadel, Recruit Members, Lead Rated Clan War, Speak in Clan Chat, Kick Guests from Clan Chat, Broadcast Events from Noticeboard, Start Event on Clan Battlefield, Initiate a Clan Vote, Begin/Invite to Private Meeting, Operate Theatre, Operate Party Room, Edit Clan Battlefield, Check Citadel Resource Contributions of Other Members

Corporal through General cannot be granted any permissions that are unavailable to Recruit.

Admin: Lock Lower Ranks from the Keep, Lock Lower Ranks from the Citadel, Kick Ranks from the Clan, Change Admin Broadcast Settings, Add to the Signpost, Add to the Noticeboard, Mark Citadel Building for Upgrade, Mark Citadel Building for Downgrade, Remove the Avatar Habitat, Choose Resources for Clan Avatars to Gather, Customize Appearance of Clan Avatars, Set Skillplot Locks, Set Gathering Objectives

Organiser and Coordinator cannot be granted any permissions that are unavailable to Admin.

Overseer: Set Citadel’s language, Move Citadel Build Tick

Deputy Owner cannot be granted any permissions that are unavailable to Overseer.

Clan Owner always has access to all permissions

Any rank permissions not listed above cannot be changed.

How do I leave my clan?

If you are a normal member:

1. Click on the Clan Chat tab.
2. At the bottom of the Clan Chat window, click on the icon which says ‘Leave your clan completely’

If you are the Clan Owner:

1. Demote yourself to Admin or below.
2. The highest ranked member in the clan will then become the Owner. You can leave the clan using the steps above.

Important Note: Before leaving as a Clan Owner, decide who will become the next leader, and make that person the only Deputy Owner. This will ensure the Clan Owner position goes to the correct person who can then fix the ranks of any Deputies who were demoted in the process.

If you are the only person in the clan:

1. Enter your Clan Citadel.
2. While inside the Citadel, use the 'Leave your clan completely' button in the Clan Chat window
3. This will disband the clan and permanently delete it.

How do I disband my clan?

This can only be done by the Clan Owner. Disbanding a clan will permanently delete it from the game, so be sure to consider your reasoning beforehand.

If you’re set on disbanding your clan, follow these steps:

1. Open your Clan Chat tab, and make sure you are in the Clan Chat.
2. At the bottom, open Clan Settings
3. You must be the only member of your clan to disband it, so proceed to kick all other members, if there are any.
4. Once you are the only member in the clan, enter your Clan Citadel.
5. While inside the Citadel, use the 'Leave your clan completely' button in the Clan Chat window
6. This will disband the clan and permanently delete it.

Note: If your account is F2P, you don't need to enter the Citadel to disband.

Disbanding Issues

There have been several instances of players having issues when attempting to disband a clan.

These issues can be the result of one (or more) of the following:

1. You are not the Clan Owner
2. You are not in your Clan Chat channel
- All Clan Settings are disabled while not in your Clan Chat
3. You are not the only member in the clan
4. A bug has occurred, which should be reported

I am unable to Kick, Ban or change any Clan Settings – Why?

1. Make sure you have the rank required to make these changes.
2. Make sure you are in your Clan Chat channel.
- If you are not, join the Clan Chat and try again.
3. If the problem persists, this is a bug, so submit a Bug Report.

Why can't Admins+ temporarily kick people from my clan?

There is a temporary kick option for the Clan Chat which can be accessed by right-clicking a player's name while they are in your Clan Chat. However, this temporary kick only works on Guests; you cannot temporarily kick a clan member.

This permission can be assigned to all ranks of your clan.

Note: It is possible to issue a mute to members in your Clan Chat.

How can I remove the kicking permission from Admin+ ranks?

To remove the permission to kick clan members from Admin+ ranks:

1. Go to Clan Settings > Permissions > Admin
2. Select the rank you’d like to remove kick permissions from
3. Uncheck the box in the top right corner

How can I remove the rank-changing permission from Admin+ ranks?
How can I stop Admin+ ranks changing the clan motif, motto and keywords?

At the moment, several permissions cannot be removed from Admin+ ranks.
These include, but are not limited to:
- The abilities to change ranks, the clan motif, motto, and keywords

So, there is currently no way to prevent Admin+ from editing these areas of a clan.

However, it appears Jagex may be working to make these permissions more flexible, so hopefully these issues will be resolved in the near future.

How can I stop clan members from talking in the Clan Chat?

It is possible for all Admin+ members to issue a mute to any clan member who is a lower rank than themselves. Please note that this mute remains active until it is manually disabled, so do not forget to unmute a clan member after issuing a mute.

1. Open the Clan Settings to view the clanmates list
2. Click the arrow to the right of the member you’d like to mute
3. Check the box next to “Mute” and click Save

When a clan member is muted, an icon will appear next to their name in the clan list, and a Clan System Broadcast will send in the chat stating who was muted by whom.

Note: It is possible for Clan Owners to issue a mute to themselves.

Information on Upkeep

Our Citadel seems to have broken down – why?

Each week, your clan needs to collect enough resources and get enough members (5) to visit to pay for the ‘upkeep’ of the Citadel. If your clan does not meet these requirements one week, your Citadel will look broken down, and the plots will give less xp. If your clan does not meet upkeep a second, consecutive week, the Citadel will degrade by one Tier.

How can I see how many resources we need for upkeep?

To see how many resources each building needs for upkeep:

1. Go inside your Citadel, and click on the Citadel map.
2. Near the top centre of the window, click on the tab called ‘View Job List Interface’.
3. If prompted, enter your PIN, and you will be shown how many resources need to be collected for upkeep, upgrades, and downgrades. [the middle tab at the top shows upkeep]
4. Each of these buildings needs to be at 100% to meet upkeep.

If you are upgrading your Citadel’s Tier, you will need more people to visit the Citadel in order to make progress towards the upgrade. Meeting the upkeep requirement while failing to meet the upgrade requirement will not cause your clan to miss upkeep that week. It will just prevent your clan from being able to make progress on the upgrade.

Here is a table that shows the number of members needed for each Tier:

How can I check if someone has visited the Citadel or capped?

If you open your Clan Chat window, you will notice there is a golden arrow (pointing left) to the right of each name. Click this arrow and then the money icon that appears. This opens the Resource Info interface which shows what resources that clan member has collected in the Citadel since the last Build Tick.

Note that you need to be on the same world as the clan member in order to successfully check this resource count since clan data cannot be read across different worlds. You also do not need to be in a Citadel to check this.

If a clan member has not visited the Citadel, a message will pop up in your chat box stating, “This clanmate has not visited the Citadel since the last build tick.”

Is it possible to see everyone who has capped or visited the Citadel even if they're offline or on another world?

No, this is not possible because the resource count and has/has-not-visited-the-Citadel data is stored on the player itself. Therefore, if a player is offline or not on the same world as you, there's no way to link you to their data.

Mod Maz's response in regards to a question about providing a list in game: (19 May 2017)
Mod Maz said:
Capping is stored on the player account. Player account data can not be accessed in game if the player is not on the same world as the account requesting it. It's also not updated till someone enters the citadel, so the data may well be out of date even if a list were able to be generated.

However, Visiting and Capping at your Clan Citadel will log an event on your RuneMetrics profile. It is possible to set up a Google Spreadsheet or Discord Bot to retrieve this information and compile a list for you.

How do we upgrade our Citadel and its Plots?

1. Enter your Citadel, and click on the Citadel map.
2. Near the top left of the window, click on the tab called ‘View Buildings’.
3. Select which building you would like to upgrade.
4. Click on the yellow up arrow on the far right, then click ‘Upgrade’

Note: To upgrade the Citadel’s Tier, all Skillplots and the Storehouse must be the same Tier as the Citadel. The Battlefield may be excluded as you can upgrade your Citadel’s tier while leaving the Battlefield at Tier 1.

Confirmation from Mod Matthe (21 April 2017):

As others have said, the tier of battlefield does not effect your Citadel tier.

How can we move our Build Tick, and what does it cost?

How to move the Tick:

1. Go to the Citadel Keep, and right-click on the Quartermaster.

2. Select the option “Move tick.”
3. The Build Tick will be moved to exactly 7 days after the time at which you requested the Build Tick change.

Note: The Build Tick automatically changes each week to the time at which the first member entered the Citadel. This is a useful way of changing the Build Tick by a short amount of time.

However, there is a 'grace period' after the Tick. If a member enters during this grace period, the time of the next Build Tick will not be changed. The duration of this grace period is unknown.

What it costs to move the Tick:

• The cost of moving the Build Tick is the same as the cost of upkeep. If you move the Tick, your clan will end up paying upkeep twice in one week.

• The resources your clan has collected in the Citadel are NOT reset after you choose to move the Tick. The clan members who have not capped yet need to collect the necessary resources.

• If your clan fails to pay the double upkeep, the Citadel will become dilapidated.

Notes:

• If you had capped before the Tick was moved, your cap will be reset, and you can cap again.

• If you had not capped before the move, you will lose a fealty star.

• Resources gathered by Avatars are not reset, so they can only cap once.

Why am I unable to enter my clan’s Citadel?

Issues preventing players from entering a Citadel can vary, so be sure to check all factors before concluding which is causing your specific issue.

Players may be unable to enter their Citadel due to:
1. Not belonging to a clan
2. Their clan having less than 5 members
3. Being Free-To-Play
4. Their Citadel being locked
5. Server outages
6. Other server issues

Not belonging to a clan
: Players must belong to a clan in order to enter their clan’s Citadel. However, it is possible to guest in another clan’s Citadel by right-clicking the portal and entering a clan’s name.

Clans with less than 5 members
: Due to the requirements of the clan code, a clan must have a minimum of 5 members in order for clan functions to work. If a clan has less than 5 members, they cannot create or maintain a Citadel.

Game Membership
: Citadels are members-only content, so players are unable to enter Citadels from free-to-play worlds.

Locked Citadels
: Citadels require a weekly visitor count of 5 clan members, in addition to the resource requirements, in order to meet upkeep. Failing to meet upkeep may result in dilapidation, loss of Citadel tiers, and eventually, a locked Citadel after degradation at Tier 1. Once a Citadel becomes locked, entry is not possible until it is unlocked. A Citadel is unlocked by having 5 clan members attempt to enter it within one week. The fifth member’s entry attempt will unlock it, and upkeep must be maintained to keep the Citadel open.

Server Outages
: There are times where Instance Shard Worlds, the servers Citadels are hosted on, undergo maintenance or have disruptions. During this time, entry to Citadels is not possible, and you must wait until the servers are properly functioning again.

Other Server Issues
: There are times where a player may attempt to enter their Citadel and immediately be kicked out. This is due to a disconnect between your game world and the instance shard world. This issue can often be fixed by changing worlds and attempting to enter the Citadel from another world, though it may take a few tries. Restarting your game client may also help with this issue. If this doesn’t work, submit a Bug Report and include your clan’s name in the report.

Why am I not receiving the buff from the Avatar?

As of the Avatar Rework update released 27 July 2018, players must activate their buff by interacting with the Avatar Control Stone within their clan’s Citadel. Currently, the available buffs are: Experience Boost, Skill Plot Bonus.

Once activated, the buff will expire exactly one week after activation, and you can swap between buffs at any time if you’d like to switch to another one.

1. Go to the Avatar Habitat in your clan’s Citadel
2. Right-click on the Avatar Control Stone, and select “Attune to Avatar”
3. Select the buff you would like to activate for one week

Note: It is no longer required to have a Clan Avatar summoned in order to benefit from its buffs.

How do Clan Avatar buffs work?

Currently, the available buffs are: Experience Boost, Skill Plot Bonus
Heal Over Time, Familiar Faces, Auto Ort, Random Resurrection, and Protector were removed with the Avatar Rework (27 July 2018), but may return in the future

These buffs are activated by attuning to the Avatar Control Stone in your clan’s Citadel, and you may swap at any time by attuning yourself to the other buff.

Experience Boost

This buff allows all players who belong to a clan to attune themselves to a 3% to 6% Experience Boost, varying based on Fealty Rank, that lasts one week from activation. Prior to the Avatar Rework, this bonus was limited to where it would work due to follower restrictions placed in certain game areas. This has since changed to work anywhere now that summoning the Avatar as a follower is not required to access the buff.

The experience boost is a flat 3% XP boost for anyone who activates it. This increases by 1% per Fealty Rank, capping at 6% for rank 3 Fealty. Your Fealty rank can be increased weekly by gathering 900 resources in your clan’s Citadel.

Skill Plot Bonus

This buff allows players to attune themselves to a 50% increased gathering rate for Citadel Resources that lasts one week from activation. While this buff is active, gathering resources from any Citadel Skillplot will yield 50% more resources, effectively allowing players to gather resources at 1.5x the standard rate and cap faster.

The benefit of this buff is the reduction in the amount of time it takes to gather enough resources to maintain or increase a Fealty rank and reach the weekly resource cap. However, gathering resources faster will give slightly less xp overall than gathering resources without using this buff. There is a trade-off of faster gathering vs. gaining more experience.

How do I summon an Avatar?

Prior to the Avatar Rework (27 July 2018), only clan members ranked Admin+, who were also assigned the Avatar Warden job, were able to summon a Clan Avatar as a follower.

• Clan Avatars are located in players’ Pet Interface, under Follower Pets, where they can be summoned as pets.

• In order to summon a Clan Avatar as a pet, you must currently be a member of a clan and have activated a buff from your Citadel’s Avatar Control Stone within the last week.

Note: It is no longer required to have a Clan Avatar summoned in order to benefit from its buffs. However you do need to summon the Clan Avatar whilst in the Clan Citadel if you want it to collect resources. Only clan members with the required permission can set which resources are gathered, but once set, all Avatars will collect these resources.

Our clan’s total XP has suddenly decreased by a lot – Why?

When a member leaves a clan, their XP contribution to the clan is not immediately removed. This is a manual update that must be initiated by a Jagex Moderator. Periodically, a JMod will update the total Clan XP for all clans at once. When this happens, the combined change can be very large. Many clans don’t realize how much this “lost” XP can build up over time before an update occurs.

There are RuneScape fansites, such as RuneClan, which keep track of Clan XP changes as they occur. The Clan XP listed on this website is a more accurate representation of your clan’s current XP total.

Note: RuneClan.com is a third-party, player-run fansite dedicated to clan tracking that is not affiliated with Jagex.

My total clan xp is much lower than my total xp on the highscores - Why?

Clan xp is the total amount of xp you have gained since you joined the clan. In nearly all cases, it will be much lower than the total amount of xp you have gained since you started playing Runescape.

For example, someone who has 100m total xp on their account at the time they join a clan that gains 25m xp will have 125m total xp and 25m clan xp.

How are clan kill counts determined?

Your clan kill count increases if you kill another player in the Wilderness who is in a clan as well. It does not work if you are in the same clan, though.

Additionally, unlike how a Clan’s Total XP will decrease due to members leaving the clan, a clan’s kill count is the collective total of kills since the clan was founded as this amount does not decrease when members leave.

Why won’t my clan’s motif/banner/vexillum update on our Clan Page?

There is currently a caching issue on Jagex’s end that prevents Clan Banners from updating on Clan Pages. Based on our observations, this issue began around December 2017 and has yet to be fixed.

The issue has been addressed on the forums by Mod Lyon (23 May 2018):
Original message details are unavailable.
Hey there,

Frankly we're super busy with ... literally everything.. right now, hence why we haven't replied sooner.

The problem is a caching issue on our side not refreshing the banner, unfortunately there's not a solution I can give you that I'm aware of. Further, this isn't something that's going to be fixed for some time.

If there are any more updates or I'm corrected by another JMod I'll let you know. Until then I'm afraid its something you're going to have to grin and bear.

Apologies,
Mod Lyon

Another reply from Mod Lyon (22 July 2019):
Mod Lyon said:
Unfortunately, while some of the issues you've mentioned are no brainers such as fixing the clan flags, it's not something that's considered to be a priority at this time.

Hopefully we'll get some time to work on these in the future, but at the moment we're dealing with much more pressing issues which require our attention.

This post will be updated if/when more information regarding the issue is made available.

How do I post a thread link on our Vexillum?

The only threads you can link on your Vexillum are those on your Clan Forum. You cannot link to threads in the main RuneScape forums, such as this thread.

Therefore, to add a link to your Vexillum:

1. Go to your Clan Page Forum [log into the RS website, then go to Community > Clans, then click on Forums to the left of your clan banner].
2. View the thread you would like to make a link to.
3. Copy the 4 character Thread ID, found at the top right corner of the thread.

4. In game, click on the Clan Chat tab.
5. At the bottom of the Clan Chat window, click on the ‘Clan Settings’ button.
6. In the window that opens, click on ‘Clan Settings’ again [found at the top in the centre]
7. Click Edit Thread ID and paste, or type, the Thread ID into the chat box, and click Save.

Notes:
• If you would like to allow players who are not in your clan to see the thread, be sure to make it public. The option to make the thread public is found at the top of the thread.

• You must be in your Clan Chat to be able to edit the Thread ID on the Vexillum.

Why do threads on my Clan Forum Page disappear?

Threads which are not stickied on your Clan Forum are automatically deleted 14 days after the last post. They do not get archived, so the threads are permanently lost.

To avoid this, you can choose to stick a maximum of 5 important threads. The option to stick a thread is found at the top of that thread.

If you have already used up all 5 stickies, it is suggested you bump* the threads you want to keep every week or so and also keep copies of them saved on a word document on your computer. Editing any of your posts on the thread also resets the two week timer it seems.

* A bump is making any post on the thread. I usually just post the word 'bump'

Our clan leader has become inactive – What can we do?

When a clan leader suddenly goes inactive without any notice or forewarning, it can be difficult for clans to manage due to many permissions that are granted only to the leader’s rank by default.

If your clan leader has become inactive for a significant period of time:

First, make an effort to contact your inactive leader. If they are able to log in to RuneScape, it may be possible to sort this issue out amongst yourselves.

If your clan leader has been inactive (i.e. not logged in to the game) for 12 consecutive months, your clan meets the requirement to request the removal of an inactive leader.

In order for a JMod to intervene and replace your inactive clan leader, you must post on the Inactive Clan Leaders thread.

The following criteria must be met:
Mod Matthe said:
1) Your Clan Leader must have been inactive (ie not logged in) for over 12 months.
2) One of the existing Clan deputies must have been active in the last 7 days.
3) The request for change of ownership must be made by an existing clan deputy.

Please note such requests may take awhile to complete.

Our leader has been banned – Can we replace him/her?

Original message details are unavailable.
Where a Clan Leader has been permanently banned we will remove them from Clan Ownership so that the ownership passes to a deputy. But you would need to provide the details of which clan so we could investigate further.

Where exactly should a banned clan leader issue be flagged up?

Mod Matthe said:
So far they have been flagged on an individual basis in this forum and been dealt with when they have.

Banned clan leaders can be replaced by having an existing Deputy Owner make a request on the Inactive Clan Leaders thread. Just fill out the template and explain the situation.

Please note such requests may take awhile to complete.

Hey everyone, here are these weeks patches!
• If you are now the last person remaining in a Clan and have a Citadel you can now reliably leave that clan, thus disbanding it.

If you're still having an issue, we can pass this along to Mod Shauny to let him know.

My clan chat tab disappeared. Also, I can no longer move the camera with WASD. I can no longer press enter to begin chatting. WHat's going on? Not in legacy mode, btw.

It sounds like you clicked the red X in the window to remove it from your interface.

To enable the tab again, you'll need to open it from the Community tab on your ribbon:

Additionally, it sounds like you've enabled Always On Mode. This can be disabled here:

So i seen a player with a Clan Vex that would announce stats and info. how do i get my vex to do the same?

That would be an Achievement banner. These are personal items (unrelated to clans) which can be purchased from Solomon's General Store for 1000 RuneCoins.

https://runescape.wiki/w/Achievement_banner

Unfortunately, Clan Vexillums don't have an announcement feature.
