If you are looking for fmod assistance, go to the below:

Forums > Community Home > Forum Help

This is a suggestion thread to help inform people how to find Forum Help (see above), and also about how it can be made more accessible.

The official Forum Help sticky doesn't show up in your search results because stickied and locked threads by default don't show up, unless you manually change your search filter (Sort/Filter) each time. Forum Help also *isn't* in this Website and Forums subforum, because that subforum is for feedback and improvements to the Runescape website and the RSOF (Runescape Official Forums) :P

Suggestion:
Forum Help and other official threads should be easily accessible by allowing stickies (and possibly locked threads) to show up in quick searches--(Search Threads/Go to QFC), at the top left corner of this page--*by default*.

OR include a link to Forum Help in the CoC (Nexus0rigin), or underneath the quick search next to the Forum Mods/CoC/Search Users links (Vera, Torchic). When an old Forum Help is locked and a new one created, an fmod can poke a jmod to update the redirect if forgotten.

Maybe even repurpose the Highlight post feature, at the bottom right of each post? Similar to how it used to be? (Thanks Hyles for the suggestion)

Please support this suggestion if this thread has helped you find Forum Help, or if you'd like to see Forum Help easier to find!!!

The quick search, which is seen on the RSOF doesn't have those options selected by default...but if you load the search threads page, the options are set to default.
How do you get to the search threads page? People have mentioned it before but I was never able to find it..

And ah I see. On that link, stickies and locked threads are default toggled to show up, but you still have to click on the uncollapse button and my first instinct actually was to use the quick search bar that also shows up on the search threads page.

that would be perfect. While we're at it, I also want purple kittens being sprinkled on this thread, like with the thread snowflakes

Ocean
, unfortunately I don't understand what you're asking because I'm not technically savvy--as such, I'd suggest posting in the Community Led Technical Support forums :) Also unsure if "gl" is a common acronym, but maybe mention what that is as well?

OH MY GOODNESS, you are brilliant O_O Also, that is absolutely hilarious and adorable. Simultaneously. ^_^

Hyles
, good suggestion. When I came back to the forums last December of 2015, I thought the highlight system had replaced Forum Help--which you mention it used to do. I think it's interesting how now it's used only for serious real-life concerns. Thanks for the post, I'll update the first page :D

Thanks

Southeaster
, the purpose of this thread is to bring awareness to the thread search filter's current default settings. I hope one day there will be the time and motivation to allocate dev time toward updating this. But thanks for the bump :)

Sorry for any confusion, this is yet another reason why the fmod Forum Help needs to be easier to find :P

Yami
, it might help to read the first two mini-graphs in the first post :P

You should post on the actual Forum Help sticky. The reason why this thread is named "Forum Help" is so that it'll show up in the search results for anyone trying to find Forum Help via the quick search, but doesn't know about it now showing up because it's a sticky.

The forum moderators will probably tell you to post on the Forum Moderation Review sticky, or they might have an answer for you on Forum Help.

Whos-Dr
,

It works brilliantly!!! Thank you so much :D

For those who would like to bookmark threads, but don't want to get logged out each time you navigate to your bookmark--

1. Bookmark a page on the RSOF
2. Edit the URL to that
3. Make sure the QFC you want is in the URL you use :)

Note: Bookmarklet only works when navigating *from* the RSOF

Ironically, the two posts above mine highlight *exactly* why this needs to be changed.
It's happened more than twice, too--and we also don't even see the successful redirects :P

Also, the reason why this thread is titled 'Forum Help' is so that it'll show up when people try to search for fmod Forum Help, and since you can get to fmod Forum Help by actually reading the first few lines, it's useful when this thread /actually/ shows up under 'Forum Help' search results.

, the fmods have been good at telling people where to actually post. I think it's fine, since it precludes redundant work for everyone (re-posting, re-reading).

I'm not sure how things work in terms of documentation, from the fmod end, but fmod decisions can still happen without reports on Forum Help so I don't think that's an issue either.

And I don't mind people posting fmod assistance requests here since it only further validates this thread's suggestion.

Thanks for the title change, Arch. And by the way, the OP very clearly states that this is a suggestion thread and that those seeking fmod assistance should click on the link therein.

Right now this thread still shows up when you search for "Forum Help" when the actual sticky doesn't, but people might not think to click on this and be able to use its redirect, now that the title has been changed.

If anyone has any title suggestions--so that the title of the thread (in addition to the first few sentences) ALSO conveys that this isn't the sticky, AND so that people will click on it when they're looking for the sticky--please share them!

Am struggling to come up with one myself that fits within the character limit :P

Forum Help has a lot of potential to be a valuable tool to the community, and not just to the technical upkeep of the forums.

I wish that it was more evident that you could ask quick forum moderating questions there--I've asked on Forum Help whether it's appropriate to ask questions about the forums, because that's what the thread title implies but not at all what the OP includes, and I've received two responses that said you're allowed to ask questions there. The example I posted about was asking in which forum to create a thread, and some others I can think of are asking if it's okay to post about this or that.

At least one of the fmod responses I received also mentioned that Forum Help isn't meant to be a discussion thread, which I interpreted as no commentary on the rules, but brief questions that someone with visible credibility can assist with. With that stipulation, Forum Help can still function how it is now without being "derailed."

Perhaps it could be mentioned/linked in the Code of Conduct?
Great idea! It would be a good step forward. If anyone has questions about the rules, hopefully they feel comfortable asking on Forum Help for help on forum moderation related matters, aka not getting their posts or threads hidden :p

And having a link to Forum Help at least in the CoC, maybe even underneath the thread search next to the Forum Mods, Code of Conduct, and Search Users links, would be easier to code than redoing the thread search system :)

Haha yeah xD I tried to take the perspective of someone trying to use the thread search as a search engine :p

Glad you're thinking of the link next to the CoC as well! Which reminds me, I have to update the OP with that suggestion :P

There's probably something better we could do with this to make it easier to find, although it's a balance of "this is the first thing you see" and "I am enjoying my forum experience without having to worry about the rules / reporting being in my face as a regular user"
This is what i like about the rules being trailed. If gives you some flexibility and freedom of speech, however it still keeps the integrity of the forums.
Clarification, what do you mean about the rules being trailed?

Anabolic Oil, confirmation of what Ollivander said in response to you :) Some messages in the Message Centre don't have the Reply option at all.

Ollivander, interesting how other websites have a built-in system, and we have a flag a post option but it's for serious posts with ramifications in the real world--whether that be someone's health or the law. I wonder if that already existing system could be repurposed for reporting stuff that's on Forum Help, which someone has suggested somewhere (unsure where it is, but I know I linked to it in the OP :P)
