Note: With the current status of RSOF, implementation of this proposal is astronomically very remote. But I'm throwing the idea regardless, with strong emphasis of this feature not restricted with a paywall.
It's been quite a long time already when Jagex implemented liberal policies for RSOF:
* Posting of 3rd party images.
* Mentioning non-malicious sites in the discussion.
* General leniency when it comes to enforcement of the rules.
Such came into consideration I believe, because of Jagex's realization that as RSOF matures - its playerbase also matures with time. Those who started Runescaping during their teenage years and still Runescaping today are all adults now, have grown a lot in real life and have adult responsibilities.
I am fully convinced that it is time to liberalize one of the most restrictive feature of RSOF that severely limit people from expressing themselves, of who they really are. I'm talking about the forum avatar. I think, it is the right time for Jagex to allow forumers to have their custom avatar based-on the image they upload from their own source.
Of course, certain rules that maintain and enforce wholesomeness of the image should be there as well as full compliance with intellectual property and copyright laws.
I believe, by implementing custom avatars will establish a better looking and livelier board. RSOF is at the rock-bottom of Jagex's priority for updating, it will cause them money to implement, yes, I fully understand that. I'm just throwing this idea publicly so we can discuss this.
