The following thread is a fictional reality. Anything stated here that happens in River of Blood is purely coinsidental.

None of this happened in the quest.

If I were to write River of Blood, I would have liked to include a really big plot twist, one that would've questioned the entirety of the Myreque's existence...

What if... Veliaf Hurtz was a Vampyre all along...?

Sounds crazy, doesn't it? But I have a backstory to support this as a potential idea. Veliaf Hurtz (sounds Vampyric in itself, right?) was present at the Fall of Hallowvale during the God Wars. Unlike other Vampyres, he was sympathetic towards humans, and hoped that both his race and theirs could live in peace in Hallowvale. Veliaf, one of Lord Draken's most trusted allies, was ordered to do a very important task:
Execute King Ascertes Hallow
. With much pain, he fulfilled his Lord's request. After the incident, full of guilt, he questioned his loyalty, left Darkmeyer and went into hiding.

In the 5th Age, Veliaf emerged again, however, in a human disguise (powerful Vampyres can do this, Vanstorm, Vanescula and Alexei Jovaki being the examples) taking the form of Ascertes Hallow, so as to hide his true form and to remember the King he killed. He wanted to destroy House Drakan, and liberate the people of Morytainia so that both races could live in peace with each other side by side. He founded The Myreque with Safalaan Hallow, Queen Efaritay's son. The Silver Sickle symbol of the Myreque was adopted from Veliaf's old Vampyric Sigil. Whether Safalaan knew of Veliaf's true identity, as the killer of his father, or not, we may never know, but it would make sense as both characters would've formed a balance to their fictional leader, "Calsidiu".

If this were to be true, it would make Veliaf the only Saradominist vampyre in existence, standing alone against the tyranny of his own kind.

Some extract dialogue (written by myself)
Vanescula and Veliaf stand face to face on the bridge dividing the Salve. The Varrock army to the West and the Vampyres to the East. Ivan Storm stands just behind Veliaf. The Player watches on, standing next to Veliaf.

Veliaf: Vanescula, it ends here. Surrender now, or feel the full might of the Kingdom of Misthalin.
Vanescula: Do you really expect to win this? You helped me this far, you might as well help me finish what you started.
Veliaf: I will never help another Vampyre, never again!
Vanescula: Really? You wouldn't help your own kind?!
Veliaf: I.... no...
Player: Veliaf?... What does she mean?
Veliaf: ...
Vanescula: Well? Reveal yoursef, Traitor!
Veliaf: Very well...

Veliaf is engulfed in a cloud of red mist. Before everyone's eyes, Veliaf loses his human disguise, revealing himself to be a Vampyre. In his Vampyre form, he would look like any other Vampyre, possibly with a lighter or white skin colour but wearing his Saradominist armour. He has blue tattoos on his forehead and wings vaguely making out symbols of Saradomin, and a blue glow to his eyes.

Ivan: Oh, by Saradomin!
Player: Veliaf...
Veliaf: I'm sorry, [Player]. I'm so sorry...
Player: Why? Why didn't you tell us?
Veliaf: I was ashamed... so ashamed...
Vanescula: After killing Ascertes? You really are a coward, aren't you? We should've hunted you down and sent you West with Draynor!
Player: So, what Drakan said was true!
Veliaf: Yes... it was all true.

I came up with it myself.

EDIT: Personally, I think it makes the perfect disguise that no one would suspect, except Lord Drakan. I always saw that him following the path of Saradomin would be his way of potentially redeeming himself for what he did!

But your theory holds weight....except for the Ascertes bit.

My reasoning is that Ascertes could have been turned into a vyre, with possibly us killing him as a vyre...He could have been Vanstrom Klause for all we know!

You're very right, he could've been Vanstorm, as you stated, since we know very little about his origins.

But i like this theory a lot!

Thank you! It was just a small idea that I had. The more I think about it, the more I would like it to be true!

Honestly Veliaf could in all cases be a saradominist Vyre like you said, but i have to disagree with the Ascertes bit, perhaps Veliaf, ( maybe during LoV he used his real vyre name, Venial Hurts), or Venial, was assigned a different task, imprisoning Eferitay, he could have liked her, but did not want to doom her on Vampyrium...

Yes, that is plausible as well. Since Efaritay is more than likely alive, she will hold the answers. Janos Morgan of Asgarnia

While I doubt this scenario would actually come to pass, it did make for a nice read and I would be amused if it actually turned out to be true.
