UPDATE (January 23, 2017):
Added a tweet from Mod Stu. Special thanks to Mewzard.

Check out a similar thread about Zaros here.

On the 15th of August, 2013, shortly after the release of The Death of Chivalry, Jagex held a live chat about that quest. This was a text-based chat rather than a video, and included a whole bunch of JMods - Such as Mod Osborne, one of RuneScape's two senior narrative designers, and Mod Stu, the quest's developer - who said a great many things.

When it came to the topic of the jolly old smurf specifically, they basically kept saying positive things.

I've wondered why people seem to ignore this chat and keep saying things about Saradomin that contradict what the JMods said there, but I now see - A lot of people simply may not know about the chat at all and about what the JMods said.

If you were aware of the chat and do realise what was said there, this thread isn't of value to you, and you may turn back.

If you weren't aware, read on, as I present a bunch of the quotes concerning my elderly friend.

Edit: Note that I will be applying chat effects to certain bits for emphasis.

Edit Again: I have by this point added a few more recent quotes, which may be of interest.
"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you[...]For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?

'Comment From Godslayer
Is Saradomin evil or just short tempered?

Mod Osborne:
Definitely short tempered! He's impulsive, and
will do what he can to keep his people safe
'

'Comment From Ballor
Hello jmods (apologies if this sent again!), After the events of The World Wakes and now Death of Chivalry, is Saradomin every going to forgive the World Guardian, or learn from his actions?

Mod Giara:
Saradomins primary concern is that of the people and those who he protects
. I don't think that Saradomin is angry at the World Guardian but Saradomin certainly wants to do things his way'

'Comment From Mewzard
Would it be fair to say that at least part of the reason why Saradomin wants the wand is to make up for his past failings, and give the Centaurs a second chance? Could it be possible to restore some of the fallen Naragi to amend such things?

Mod Osborne:
You are exactly right.
Saradomin's motivations here are almost entirely benevolent
- he wants to make up for errors with the centaurs. But he was impulsive and emotional, and that's often been his failing. The naragi could be restored, but I wonder if they would be his first target.'

'Comment From Joseph R Chown
I think we established that saradomin is stubborn. Do you think that he would do absolutely anything to get his way?

Mod Giara:
Only if his way is the best decision for his followers and believers
'

'Comment From Ziggy Coins
I didn't trust Saradomin throughout the quest, I warned him that no good can come of him using the wand, then we he took it off me by force and then caused Owens corruption, that confirmed to me that no-one deserves that power...

Mod Osborne:
Then you were proved right! Saradomin is still redeemable - please don't give up on him yet, '
"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you[...]For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?

'Comment From knddnk2
Does saradomin really feel bad about what he did to the Naragi? Or was he just saying that to get the player to help him?

Mod Stu:
I intended for him to be earnest in his response, and genuinely regret the actions of his past. Whether you believe him or not is up to you...'

'Comment From Axel993
do you think being corrupted when revived by saradomin would that not shake sir owen's faith in saradomin even a little?

Mod Stu:
That's the intriguing thing about Sir Owen. He's deeply pragmatic. He can see the reason why Saradomin did what he did; he's alive again, in whatever capacity, and can continue to fight the good fight.

The very early concept for the quest was actually that Sir Owen would have a crisis of faith and turn away from Saradomin. We discovered that's just not in his nature. It's his faith in Saradomin, but that he shares
Saradomin's determination to complete his mission and protect those that cannot protect themselves
, and will make any sacrifice and use any method to achieve that end.'

'Comment From Mewzard
Given how friendly Sara is to you despite alligiance and how he spoke of Zamorak not needlessly destroying without reason...is Saradomin more reasonable/tolerant than some of his followers believe he is? Would he accept a demon follower if he/she was truly committed to following him? And what does Sara think of his fellow gods? Is he truly "kick all gods out!", are there exceptions, or is that wrong overall?

Mod Stu:
I think
Saradomin is more reasonable and tolerant than either faction has been led to believe
. The ends justify the means. I don't think he would condemn a demon who was committed to his ideals.

Saradomin fights to protect the world from outsiders
. If the gods bring violence, then he will return it in kind.'

'Comment From Voya100
What is the connection between Saradomin, unicorns and owls?

Mod Adam R:
They all have an O in their name.

And they're both animals associated with Saradomin, due to aspects of his nature.'

Now, here's a bonus quote, from the game update FAQ thread for The Death of Chivalry.

'35) Was Saradomin a human before his ascension?

Mod Stu: Saradomin states that he was “mortal once, a long time ago”. As the only lesser god with a human origin,
he’s truly a man of the people
.'

16th October, 2013: This just in!
New quote from Mod Jack, one of RuneScape's senior game designers, ingame (yes, he does write lore, and featured in the recent Joy of Zaros podcast).

Mod Jack: I really liked the subtlety of Saradomin's presentation in M P D

Mod Jack: I thought it captured his nobility but also fundamentally

Mod Jack: Human emotion really well

7th November, 2013:
Recent quote from Mod Osborne on Twitter!

'Icriulis @treemanforever 5 Nov
@JagexOsborne No no, I appreciate you answering the question. Next question, in your eyes is saradomin only tolerant to his followers?'

'David Osborne @JagexOsborne 5 Nov
@treemanforever He is not someone who would smite anyone who doesn't follow him.
He only takes on those who threaten his people or himself
.'

6th January, 2014:
Twitter quote from Mod Stu. It actually dates back to 29th December, but they say a lot of positive things and I try to be selective.

'Nelfarion @AZAlliance1 29 Dec
@JagexStu does Saradomin view himself above everyone else?'

'Mod Stu @JagexStu 29 Dec
@AZAlliance1 Not necessarily above. Is the town sheriff superior to its citizens? He has a duty to uphold the law & keep the varmints out'
"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you[...]For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?

8th January, 2014:
A brand new quote from Mod Stu on Twitter:

'John Vigneau @John25646 5h
@JagexStu Since Saradomin considers true gods as protectors, would he banish Seren and Armadyl?'

'Mod Stu @JagexStu 4h
@John25646 No, I don't think so, not unless they posed a threat to his followers and he needed to protect them.'

23rd January, 2014:
Recent quotes from Mod Stu on Twitter:

'Chaos Lupus @ChaosLupusRS Jan 21
@JagexStu @JagexOsborne @JagexRaven @JagexJohnA @JagexJack Does Saradomin want to banish all of the other gods like his emissary says, or'

'Chaos Lupus @ChaosLupusRS Jan 21
@JagexStu @JagexOsborne @JagexRaven @JagexJohnA @JagexJack is he willing to let some remain on Gielinor.'

'Mod Stu @JagexStu Jan 22
@ChaosLupusRS I think
Saradomin only wants to protect his people and Gielinor, and he'd rather banish than kill those that threaten them
.'

'Chaos Lupus @ChaosLupusRS 23h
@JagexStu What about gods like Armadyl and Seren? Does he want to banish them?'

'Mod Stu @JagexStu 23h
@ChaosLupusRS Do they threaten his people?'

June 14, 2014:
Mod Stu quotes from the 17th April lore campfire, that I've only now decided to add:

Original message details are unavailable.
5. Did Saradomin intend to kill the player when he blasted him with magic at the end of DoC, provided you didn't give him the wand?

'5. Saradomin didn't intend to kill you, no. Your unwillingness to aid him forced him to act in order to save Owen from permanent death.'

Original message details are unavailable.
3) Why is Saradomin so convinced that he is the "one true god" and why does he have such a bad temper?

'That's largely enthusiastic PR on the part of his more over-zealous and less well-informed followers. He's obviously not the only god, and he recognises that he's not perfect, and has made some terrible mistakes. He feels that the people of Gielinor would be safer under his protection.

His temper is a personality trait. He's only human after all, but a wrathful nature is a dangerous quality in a god.'

June 20, 2014:
More Mod Stu quoting from the 17th April campfire:

Original message details are unavailable.
1.Is Saradomin misunderstood or misinterpreted?

2.It's been hinted about that Saradomin's done a lot of good for humanity as a race, and for others such as Icyene and the Imcando dwarves, will this groups acknowledge Saradomin's contribution to their societies more clearly in the future?

3.As the God of Order and Wisdom (and Light and Justice, if we follow Pad*menes line of thought) do you think Saradomin develops and nurtures this traits on the worlds/people that call him their God? Do you think Saradomin would be willing to debate his philosophy/aspects of his goverment with his followers? How would Saradomin, feel, say, about Democracy?

'1. Both.

2. Perhaps.

3. Yes.'

January 22, 2017:
The Stu Strikes Back, with more quotes from the Jan. 17 Lore Corner.

Original message details are unavailable.
Sky Jexel said:
5. How much freedom does Saradomin give his followers to choose how they should live their lives?

"Plenty. While there are plenty in the church that might wish to micromanage the daily lives of individual followers, Saradomin has to focus on the bigger picture, for the good of all."

Original message details are unavailable.
Sky Jexel said:
6. Saradomin claims after Sliske's Endgame that he will create a utopia for all races. Would he strive to create a society where races such as demons or Mahjarrat could live in peace with humans?

"Yes. Why would he discriminate over race?"

Original message details are unavailable.
Sky Jexel said:
7. What exactly was the sentient race other than the icyene that was native to New Domina?

"It was very very bad. The darkness to the icyene's light, the devils to their angels. They could not be reasoned with; to pursue peace and diplomacy would be the icyene's undoing. The only option was to purge the corruption to prevent it from spreading."

January 23, 2017:
Quote from Mod Stu on Twitter.

"Mewzard 4h4 hours ago

@JagexStu Were there any good people among the opposing group of the Icyene on their home world? And if so, what happened to them?"

"Mod Stu
@JagexStu

@Mewzard Some are calling it genocide. It was more like eradicating a plague, or extermination of a lethal swarm. It was kill or be killed."

i have no doubt in my mind Saradomin does what he thinks is best for his followers, but he seems like he gets angry way too easily and sometimes reacts without thinking from his anger
