Well from the time ive spent.killing bots


What if we were to move all the roaming bankers into bandits camp?

Now its not a gud idea but would significantly slow them down as they would then need to be run all the way to edgeville to bank or be killed by npc bandits as well as maybe make owning cursed make bandits attack anyways


But its.just one terrible idea for this issue.

My opinion is that cursed energy has gone the right direction for the most part. Since maxed mains can attack level 3's, it gives more value to cursed energy, to level up your account or collect it before getting killed, there are things that could be improved, because the gold value for cursed energy is maybe not where it could be, if there was more reason for people to buy cursed energy. Eventually everyone who wants to get 99/120 divination with cursed energy will have done so. I think the main thing that needs addressed is what cursed energy will be used for, maybe there could be an alternate rift deeper in the wilderness, the memories could stack as the OP suggested, and convert to something better than normal cursed energy. For iron men, the gold value is of course irrelevant, and maybe there is still enough use for it, but eventually if cursed energy isn't viable to collect for different reasons, then it'll just be dead content, which will be unfortunate because it used to be really fun. @Clone11117: I think moving all of the wilderness bankers to the bandit camp would be a bad idea. You might be onto something about having an NPC attack players with cursed energy though.

For example, if a revenant spawns when you leave the crater that attacks you when you are carrying cursed energy, that would likely kill the low levels that are bots. It could also be a new way to fight revenants. Who knows. Could be a solution.

@iffy yuffie: Cool idea, but I think that the current mechanics need to work first, before trying to add similar content deeper in the wilderness. True, cursed energy needs to be valuable. A big problem is that all those bots are bringing too much energy, which makes it so the supply is too high, which makes the market price go down. We won't know if there is the right amount of players using the energy in comparison to the players that are gathering it until the bots are gone. Cursed energy may or may not need additional uses. I think that's a topic to speak about after the bots have been dealt with.

I like that idea about the revenant, and I agree that the bots need dealt with before anything else is added, however the bots would still exploit the current mechanic, and devalue the cursed energy. That's why we need cursed energy to be more complex in general. Instead of just making it one click to convert the memories, we need it to be something that changes every time. We need it to be harder for people to bot in the first place. I don't think the answer is the bots being more likely to get PKed or killed by a monster, but instead a full rework of how you collect and/or convert the memories.

Unfortunately, I don't know if there's much that can be done to actually stop the bots other than having a faster/better detection system. Having more users around to report & fight them would help, though.

That said, it would be nice if it were easier for legitimate players to gather the energy, to encourage people to go there. Maybe there could be a way to remove the "curse" that allows anyone to attack, regardless of combat level... possibly a quest, miniquest, or achievement reward of some sort? If the task were a bit on the longer side, and a reward item had to be worn and was always lost on death (but could be reclaimed from the source), it could deter botters from trying to use it. It probably wouldn't help higher leveled collectors much, since there are a lot of higher leveled PKers around, but it would definitely help lower leveled collectors. (Level 3 skiller vs. Level 100+ PKer is not fair in the slightest.)

Additionally, maybe the "curse" effect could be tied to interacting with the wisps instead of being tied to the items, so that maxed PKers are less likely to go after lower leveled PKers who are also after the bots. That could encourage a wider level range of PKers to go to the volcano. Maybe interacting with a wisp could grant a unique overhead indicator? (ex. A purple skull or wisp symbol.)

That's a very good idea actually. As long as the quest/miniquest/achievement is difficult enough that players won't bother completing it before running their botting programs.
(eg- more efficient for the botter to just make a new cursed energy botting account, than complete the content which restores the combat level restriction, each time their account gets banned). The reward item that must be worn would also deter or possibly break the bot too. (Not sure if a bot can be programmed to reclaim items like that. Maybe. I've never used one).

This way, legitimate low level accounts can access the content fairly, and bots will continue to be slaughtered by everyone. Very good.

That's also an excellent idea! Interacting with the wisp creating the cursed effect, rather than carrying the energy, is a great improvement. It also fixes the scam where people will trade a bit of cursed energy to another player, or drop cursed energy on the ground, hoping that a player will loot/ accidentally area loot it in order to be made attackable + tele-blocked. It sure does protect low level PKers, excellent!

I can see these ideas working. They are also simple and therefore would be easy to implement! Thanks very much for those ideas Hyouhaku!

Manual looting is still an issue, but I've noticed that the energy doesn't seem to show up on the area loot menu (after killing multiple bots at once, for example; only bones appear on it). That's one part of the problem that is already solved, at least.
