Sliske's Endgame's late update has reminded me how much i used to love 'Scape lore so much. Especially the 3 main story pillars that we've focused on since The World Wakes.
Don't get me wrong, the Pirates, Penguins, Gnomes and even the story lines that haven't been touched in yonks like the Void Knight series in 2010 are/were fantastic. I really loved the Void Knight saga actually.
But the Elders, Kin and God pillars are almost the story line of Runescape really. Most quests somehow connect to those three pillars in some way. Not all, just a big amount. Hence why i'd call them the main storyline
But as of late, well, since December of 2016, we've gotten little to nothing. Between March of 2013 with TWW and December of 2016 with SE, we had almost constant phenomenal content in regards to quests. TWW, DoC, MPD, FotG, TMF, DAT, TLW, NE, COM, SE and more. Every few months we had something massive, especially in 2016 with Sliske's Countdown. So many plot points addressed or created, so many theories crafted (One of my favourites was the Rune Essence mines being where the Elder Gods were for example).
The lorums were thriving and it was a delight to lurk or comment here every day.
But since we haven't had any substantial content in so long, it feels like the lore forum and the "main story" of Runescape is dying. I haven't done quests in awhile. The Evil Dave quest looks fun but it doesn't have any proper meat to it and i'm just not interested in Menaphos at all and the way to unlock more of the city just looks irksome. That isn't offense to the content, it's just not my cup of tea.

I really hope that Jagex makes 2018 a comeback year for lore but it just could be too late for many. So many names i used to see everywhere, Robo Hobo, Sepulchre, Padomenes and so many more haven't been active and there are few threads created here. As much as i really wanna see more meaty quests and theorycrafting, is it too late now? What do you think?
Are the Elders, Kin and Gods no more?

Last year saw an scarcity of all content, not just quests. Jagex wanted to try an expansion system that would result in far fewer, but larger updates. When they delivered their first expansion, it failed to meet expectations. For the lack of content to that point, we got a wonderful looking city filled with lengthy grinds that locked off most content including a series of quests (of which one, Crondis', was incredibly substandard) and a few unlocks for individual cosmetic rewards.

The players were not happy. Sure, it looked beautiful, but there was little to do but grind. As such, Jagex scrambled to cancel the additional expansions and salvage what they could from what had been done. With minimal updates planned outside of the expansions and the additional work put into salvaging the work put into them, Runescape was left with little to no updates outside of patches and the scraps of the defunct expansions.

Now that we are back on a more regular update schedule, I wouldn't expect such an extreme dearth of content in 2018.

I'm curious, have they said as much to that effect in recent Q&As? I haven't heard much reflection on 2017 from Jagex's point of view.
Patrolling Lore FC almost makes you wish for a Great Revision.

There's been a couple forum posts here and there stating that the scavenging of work already done on expansions took more time away from producing a stream of more constant updates.

They've made it entirely clear that they are no longer pursuing the expansion model of updates and are returning to more regular updates, so we should expect a return to such updates once the backlog from expansions has been cleared up (if it hasn't already).

Im hoping for Bik's Awakening and a followup Dragonkin quest post Endgame. I agree with you these are some of the best storylines in the game and I hope we get more serious content this year and not so much light jokey stuff.

Or they could surprise us entirely and somehow give
Brassica Prime
a serious quest for once since he is in fact canon. Not likely but hopeful lol.

Still pulling for RoP this year also.

There will be no end. If there's an end to the story, there's an end to RuneScape. It will continue, and the Kin are just getting started now that the Stone has been shattered. Note that I say shattered, not destroyed. This means there could be multiple people using it unconsciously, hence why it's possible to let Nomad obtain a piece in DAT and Endgame gives us fragments as a reward. The Stone may be gone (or at least the core/essence of it), but the shells remain.

And there is still a lot more detail to go in with the gods and other races. Plus I'm looking forward to RoP, DOC2, the fate of the elves on Tarddiad, and the maw of eternity itself obviously.
Prepare for hell on RuneScape in Naval Cataclysm!
