@ A Cole - " If Jagex were put in the same position regarding Alt1 and the clue solver, perhaps they may then make it an official add-on and/or implement their own system which does the same job. This way forward should make most players happy. "

If they offered their own version, it'd have to be free (like Alt1) and do everything that Alt1 does (or more). The clue-solver is a 'legal cheat' essentially, and unfortunately there is not a whole lot they can do to create an alternative, when the program does so much for you. It leaves no room to expand. Alt1 does everything for you (besides the clicking) so Jagex can't really bring out anything to trump it, without adding an auto-clicker. There is already a solution in-game: 'puzzle skip tickets' which cost 1.4m (a fair price that reflects the rewards you can get). To me the solution is clear: they ask Alt1 to remove the clue solver feature, or publicly approve of it and accept RS3 will be an easier game as a result of everyone using it.
I'm not expecting RS to trump it. I'm merely pointing out that if Jagex either took responsibility for Alt1 (i.e. ensure it is safe to use - something they cannot do whilst it's open source) or released an in-game version of the tool that works in the same way that's accessible to all, then I'd accept it no longer to be a cheat. It merely becomes something players can choose to either use or ignore, much like the rest of the content.

As of right now, there is no choice.

A reddit poll (external source) VS runescape forums (an internal source), I wonder how that'd turn out. I thought one of the points raised here was that Alt1 is not advertised anywhere else in-game or on the website. That's gotta be factored in. As well as the anonymity of Reddit. It could be interesting though! to see how many downvotes I can get on there. I can see it now - a bunch of 'no / nope / who cares / clues suck' comments.

Yet thats pretty much what you're getting here but just from the opposite side.

I mean having just "yes men" comments doesnt make it truly "valid".

Plus what does it not being advertised have to do with anything?

The 'being advertised' thing was just a nod back to a conversation earlier, when we were comparing Alt1 to Wiki & Youtube. Youtube is promoted and wiki is actually built into the game, however you can only find Alt1 externally. The point was that we'd get a different test group. Reddit users are anonymous, people are way more likely to troll on there, and/or not care to give thoughtful responses. We're not after 'yes/no', we want the 'why's too.

@ A Cole - Yeah, I know what you mean, it's a tricky one. On one side, if Jagex made their own version it'd be accessible to all, not cause unfair advantage, and it'd be safer (being in-house). Byproduct of this? - Clues simply get easier. All because of Alt1. Option 2 is they ask Alt1 to remove the clue-solver or adjust the feature so it's not so blatently cheating. In the official rules it talks about not using next-move indicators, I'd consider the clue solver in Alt1 to be using said feature. Perhaps the issue is that they simply cannot track these transparent overlays that sit above your client, calculating and indicating where you should click next).

I feel like it doesn't get brought up enough because those that use it benefit from it.

Indeed, having such a feature in-game does make the puzzle redundant - but this is exactly what people who use Alt1 want. On the other hand, there are people who see it as outright cheating, therefore it should be banned.

Jagex are therefore in the difficult position of either banning it's usage completely, or accepting it's usage by providing it to all. Either option is going to cause upset.

I suppose another alternative is to remove puzzle steps completely and replace them with something that cannot be automated/done in mere seconds... something like "chop 50 logs" or kill 3 bosses". I wonder what would be harder to implement *thinking emoji*.

I don't think this would benefit SLR, therefore he/she/they won't do this....

How would this not benefit OP?

If OP wants to get the most info possible, reddit is the place to do it.

Maybe I am incorrect, but I think a place with a wider audience will have a much larger amount of people for Alt1 than against..... as I have said, maybe I'm wrong in this assumption.

a wider audience is usually better, especially if OP is truly finding out if alt 1 should be banned or not. and isnt biased then more people should be welcomed.

My comment was based on the feeling Reddit followers are less likely to back up his opinion...

To which SLR has more or less said since.

indeed thats why i said about being bias on his part. and why i said if he truly is wanting to find out if alt 1 should be banned, he should get as much input as possible.

This type of software was a bannable offense according to the creators of runescape.

whomever has taken over does not share the same integrity. OBVIOUSLY

Doesn't mean they are wrong if they don't know any better?

can they still have integrity of they don't know how to play the hard/smart way

THE NEXT UPDATE COULD HAVE A KEYLOGGER...

I can't believe cheat codes are being allowed in a game... because they aren't cheat codes they involve videos and you don't actually r2r2 left down left down wait... actually you are
