I mean the wiki even had to change sites due to malware and what not yet ive yet to see alt1 do that once.

That's not the reason why the Wiki split from Fandom Wikia. It's only after the split that the abandoned vrsion on the Fandom Wikia got infested with malware and troll content because there was no supervision anymore.

Here's the "press release" with all the info on why: https://runescape.wiki/w/Forum:Leaving_Wikia
It also explains why the Wiki was getting mentioned by Jagex after the split.

P.S.: feel free to search "Wikia" on the RS Wiki, it's an excellent representation of the feeling they have towards Fandom.

Still doesnt disprove that wiki is open source and alt1 isnt, so less ppl can cause problems with alt1 than wiki.

Plus even though they changed sites, ppl can still freely edit it and still infect it with malware.

Yet ppl want something thats "controlled" banned over something that isnt.

You could say that about any website, but they're only a threat if a user allows automatic downloads, which is not advised, ever. At least you don't have to download anything with RS Wiki & Youtube.

Alt1 uses various methods to create an advantage beyond normal gameplay, in order to make the game easier. It is cheat software. It may be allowed now, but the question is should it be?

alt1 has more in common with automation software than it does with wikis, which are reference materials.

How would you get malware on the Wiki the way it is run now? There are no ads that bring foreign content to it.

Everything done on the Wiki is remembered indefinitively, along with who did it (either account or IP address if it's not a registered Wiki account).
Every time something is changed, it can send an email to everyone who has marked the page to be kept up to date. I have probably my eyes on more than 500 pages (yes, that can create some spam if a bot is used to update something on a bunch of pages). Bad stuff is removed very fast (if it even happens, which I rarely see, there's hardly any trolling happening).
If some perpetrators keep on trolling around, they can get banned, and the page can get locked if necessary. Undoing things can be done with one simpkle click.

Whatever you think is possible on the Wiki, it isn't.
Unless you can find a way around? If so, feel free to leave a message on one of the high-ranking people from the Wiki.

I disagree.

I think you've made good points: it does provide an advantage, it does have some future concerns (your Terminator reference), and in some definitions, the advantage it provides could be considered a cheat. I don't disagree with those statements but I think their implications are too slippery to enforce.

The biggest problem I see is that this is a non-starter. The application is an overlay and doesn't interact with the game at all, so there's no way to enforce this rule unless you manually go after people posting content online. If I'm wrong about this, please let me know (I haven't had time to read the previous pages of the thread). Suppose it is against the rules tomorrow. What changes?

Personally, I don't use alt1 and have only ever used the official client, but looking at its features, I consider most of them to be quality-of-life things more than cheats. The puzzle solvers are the most egregious, but there's really very little difference between using alt1 for that versus taking a screenshot to paste into a solver that spits out a list of moves. And at the end of the day, I don't think it's having that big of an impact on the game to be worth paying staff members to enforce.

Exactly.

I also find this near impossible to enforce as like said, no one knows for sure, not even jagex, whos using this.

So unless jagex just wants to put out an update that somehow "disables" it from working, this isnt ever happening.

Even then it'll only be a matter of time before the creator or whoever works on alt1 gets it working again.

My suggestion: Ban Alt1, or more specifically the puzzle solver within it, please

^ Alt1 in use ^ is this cheating?

It's similar to how Chess cheats work, it sits on-top of your client and you can click 'through' it, like digital tracing paper. Is this fair play? In the Chess world, this technology is considered hard-cheating.

thats great you enjoy the challenge of chess duals and what not... but this is runescape, and we get way to many clue scrolls to not need an overlay. Like you said, you used it yourself, so if you want to ban people for it you gotta throw yourself in the pit too, along with most of the jagex team.
