Ok, so some green team and I have been talking about mentors. Here's what we suggest for the future:

Ideally have set up a mentor app/mentor template
RSN:
Length of time involved with RS RP:
Very short personal description (RP style, etc..)

Then, the first pages post could simply read "These are those who have volunteered as mentors." with no judgment or conditional clauses.

If the community wants conditions, they should only be things like "minimum of 1 year involvement in the RS RP community". However, Twillow's personal opinion (I apologize) is that with the comings and goings of RS RPers, it might be unrealistic to have such a quantifier and then hmm who's going to define 'involvement ?'...which could lead to drama? I guess, my personal opinion is that the above 3 things - RSN, length of time, and description - would be enough. Also, 'active' and 'inactive' those are tricky, too. What one person thinks is inactive, another person might not think so. Just throwing all this out there.

For consistency and the fact that we don't know if newcomers or someone who needs help looks at both guides, it would be nice to have something similar about mentors on each guide.

Awesome suggestions Twillow.

I also think this is an important point as well, regarding having two guides and whether or not they are looked at. Slightly unrelated, but like I have fervently argued in the past I still adamantly believe that this thread should be quantified into something much simpler that flows off the tongue and isn't bulky, clunky or hard to read.

This thread is one of those threads, kind of beating around the bush before getting to the point. It has a nice tone, but it just takes a lot of valuable time to read.

Frankly it's embarrassing that this needed intervention from a forum moderator. That's not even concerning the closing of a certain provocative thread by a Jagex moderator.

Can we please move past this?

Mentors

Would you like someone to assist you in game with roleplay? Ask around.

I've decided to do away with the Mentors list. As Twillow said on page 27, hosting a mentor's list is tricky. Ensuring the right people go on it is a very hard thing to do, and while arbitrarily deciding by myself who should and should not go on it is against the rules, the alternative - hosting just anybody that asks - is not anywhere close to a good idea. It allows disruptive or otherwise offensive people to simply request addition and be guaranteed to get on, with only arguments erupting if they're declined. This is not, and will not be, a subtle targeted attack on any person's character, only a concern for the future. Having a mentor's list was a good idea some time ago, but it no longer is, with even the criteria for what determines a mentor and the possible requirements being easily debatable and inadmissible. Due to this, I've taken down the Mentors list, and will leave only this post in its wake.

Ask people.

Update after considering Twillow's posts.

If you reach a point as a player where you simply smack down suggestions that are cooperative of nature and come from f-mods and j-mods alike Iím honestly just astounded youíre even still allowed to host a sticky by these people.

More importantly, this thread is for the community and mentors are for the community; therefore, one person - for example, in this case, you - cannot arbitrarily be deciding who should be and should not be mentors.

This should be your holy credo but instead of stepping in the ring and talking things over you constantly seem to be jumping the gun with your own solutions. Shame on you for showing you simply do not care for what the people actually in charge of the forums and game have to say about it. The things they tend to say are not to harm W42 or RSRP in general.

I personally liked the idea of roleplay mentors and even had something written up already. It would be nice to include it in the first post of the sticky thread I host after Twillow and the Green Team came forth with some suggestions. Their goal was to make the two threads more in line with one another, by having the one I host include the mentors. I liked it. Theyíre newby friendly and you can spend more time roleplaying and less time reading forum posts.

Look. Iím totally fine with you slamming the door in my face again, your choice and I canít force things. But if youíre not willing to work out the idea of roleplay mentors Iím going to give it a try. Twillow and the Green Team took time to talk and observe the temper tantrums of the play pretend people. Yes it is their job but they are people too, with limited time and not flawless. Imo, it would be thankless to let their efforts to stimulate a more cooperative mindset amongst the RuneScape roleplayers just go to waste by evading their input, as youíve done so by simply doing away with the entire idea.

I am bad and that's good, I will never be good and that's not bad, there's no one I'd rather be than me.

After Twillow's posts, I removed half of the Mentor post and then messaged her in-game with the intention of talking to her over exactly what I updated the Mentor post to today. I didn't get any response, so I slept on it. Because, in short, when Twillow made mention of:

I realized how simple it would be to abuse the fact that in-game behavior is not something that can be brought up or held to someone on the forums. Whether or not I think that that is right (due to this roleplay forum being a representation of what goes on in game) is a matter of its own, but the possibility of abuse becomes very great. There was someone a month or two ago that re-entered the community, joined numerous discord servers, proceeded to nuke the ones they had the ability to nuke and flamed the ones they couldn't, made several long-winded spam-posts on various threads, and to this day still they make occasional alternate discord accounts to infiltrate servers and disrupt things.

Under the system Twillow proposed, this person - and any people like them - could simply request to be listed as a mentor, be given the listing, and then do whatever they please. Leave the game, yell at anybody that PM'd them asking for help, chased them away, lie to them extensively about everybody..
