Further more on the gambling hypocrisy: Runescape requires every player to be aged 13 or above according to their terms and conditions. Last I checked, 13 year old can't participate in casino's. What they are doing with treasure hunter in most cases should be illegal in many countries. Why it isn't is beyond me.

Ah, found it.

Section 4. You may not create an account if you are under 13 and it is a violation to create an account for someone under 13.

So, they offer gambling services like TH on a game aimed at teenagers. Nice going Jagex.

I don't think it's classed as gambling if it doesn't cost you anything.
TH prizes are a free giveaway as part of your membership - all you're doing in TH is selecting the free gift you want.

I'm sure Jagex have lawyers who would have looked into this in great detail.

My first post explicitly cites that TH keys can very much be bought with REAL WORLD money which in exchange for said real world money gives you a chance at a lucrative prize such as 200m or literally any other reward on the purple slot of the TH. Red too in some cases.

Last I checked, a chance means there's every chance you won't be getting the 200m prize or even landing on the purple slot at all, as is often the case.

Please explain to me how paying real world money for a chance at a desired item on TH does not resemble gambling outlets like the lottery.

As much as I hate TH and the like, look at this month's updates and Jagex is already selling overloads and deathtouched darts outright. Attacking the gambling aspect of TH is a pointless endeavor, and there is no hypocrisy for jagex to have gambling as against the rules. Try setting up your own slot machine in someone else's casino and see what happens.
Don't forget – RuneScape members get TWO free spins a day instead of the usual one!

Giving this a little glue for a bit ;)

Should be kept here or somewhere easily found for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for this :)
Going forward when the glue does come off this thread, there is a link to the Rules of RuneScape in the footer of the website (all the way down, below the copyright) for reference.

Just because you dont get what you want doesnt mean you dont get anything at all.

So with TH you always get something hence why it isnt gambling.

Gambling implies the chance of winning nothing which isnt possible with TH.

Thank you, i can now design a non gambling casino, you will gain 1% back on all bets, plus some candy.....

Idk getting crap things doesn't make it not gambling. Not gambling is when i pay X amount and gain the item i want.

loot boxes are 100% gambling, as they can be bought with real money. To boot they even have limited time promotions, what if i wanted it badly? 100$ gone, crap need 3 more pieces of this cosmetic set.....another 100$, oh my...zero.....another 100$.....yeah doesn't seem like this at all.

"pulls lever, oh my.....was so close, pulls again, pulls again....i'll win soon i feeel it......I still have my 700$ in savings......i have to win soon"

When i bought fury shark outfit, i had to buy another pack just for 1 piece, that pack gained me none btw, rigged?.....if i don't buy another, i lose all i invested thus far....... who knows how anything is programmed with $$$ is everything now.....I don't trust any company.

^100% gambling.....

This is just you, once again, not getting the item you wanted.

TH still gave you a reward even if it wasnt a piece of the outfit.

Its just like saying ingame drops should be considered gambling when you dont get the one you want.

Yet its not/wont.

You know what would be awesome? A temporary in-game message when you log in to let you know that the Rules of RuneScape have been updated, which is a big, important change that affects every single player that's logging into the game. Right ;)?

Original message details are unavailable.
ADVERTISING WEBSITES
By ‘advertising’ we mean using chat in game that mentions websites, or chat that could lead people to websites, that are not appropriate to be shared in our games. This means websites that offer (not a full list:)

Gold (GP) selling
In-game item selling
Cheating and macroing services
Private servers
Account services
Accounts for sale
Inappropriate advertising also includes links related to ‘gambling’, 'phishing' (fake sites designed to steal your account details) or sites that host illegal and adult content.

Some of these websites can contain viruses and keyloggers designed to steal information from you or weaken your account security. You may also see websites being promoted as part of the 'giving money away' scam mentioned in the 'Scamming' section above.

How does this impact the forums? I know that previously the rules have been quite lax on links to fansites etc. but what about signature links and and clearly promoted sites.

More specifically I'm referring the blatant spamming of certain discords links, primarily in the Item Trade forums. I've asked about this in the Forum Review thread and Mod Kari stated that she and the other Forum Moderation team would be looking into this.

If someone wants to advertise their clan, then that belongs in the Clan Forums, I don't think it's appropriate to be spamming it on the other forums. Especially when a lot of these abusers are known to violate In-Game rules (i.e. giveaways, auto-typers, etc).
