I'm not downloading a 3rd party client. If we're going to get HD I want the original with 2008-2011 models and all. Last time I remember mod Mat K or mod Ash saying it took a year or so to make the first time, so I am assuming 2022 but jagex never gave a clear deadline
I think we will need to wait for OSRS to make further clarification on their stance of 3PC graphics mode first before we can get an estimate on how long it take them to make their own in-house version of better graphics.
At this point, I'll guess it will take them more than the 1 year estimate Mat K mentioned because their new art direction calls for a new type of graphics and not just porting the 2008 or 2011 graphics over to OSRS. I get the feeling from their art direction livestream they want something more original to OSRS than Runelite HD and HDOS that are basically 2008 RS2 graphics ports that took less time to make but also don't attract many new or returning players as most have seen them for a long time already.
Well, they started talking about looking into it in 2018 and are just now doing mock ups on blender (Honestly, probably trying to preemptively lesson the backlash for their newpost the following day.) It's going to be a while.I want, what they want, and every other guy who came over here and spilled his guts and gave everything he had, wants! For our country to love us as much as we love it! That's what I want!
OSRS is still mum on all fronts regarding the graphics saga. So everything is possible and at this point I think we are going to see all kinds of graphics model even after OSRS released their own. I don't think they are going to order the other 3PC to removes their different graphics plugins.
I highly doubt they're going to take years to complete it. They said they'll soon be having some information released, then also mentioned that they'll be releasing some other information before next year. Things like this don't typically receive reveals until they're close to completion or have a significant amount of work done.
I suggest being patient. There's a lot of loud voices who keep yelling against any graphical changes, so those loud voices may seem like they're the majority, but they're not. The majority appears to want better graphics, but simultaneously doesn't want the game to turn into an RS3 clone by way of changing the combat or other various factors about the actual gameplay. The graphics don't impact such things, but do give people a lot more satisfaction with what it is they're looking at as they play, thus leading to even more enjoyment.
My guess is that they'll release some information later in the year. Even with the HD plugin for Runelite, I'm also looking forward to seeing how Jagex's turns out. It is correct that they need to give better information about when they'll be releasing it, though, that much is evident, as is their need to release information about when they plan on showing some previews of it.
