So............ does that mean soon?
Or not sure?

Both bills (HB 2720 and SB 6568) have gained bipartan support, passed the hearing on Jan 28, and are progressing In Committee now, unlike all those failed loot box and anti-MTX bills OP referred to.

"On Wednesday 12 February 2020, the UK Government announced that new powers will be given to watchdog Ofcom to force social media firms to act over harmful content online.

Ofcom already regulates television and radio broadcasters, including the BBC, and deals with complaints about them. Ofcom will now be granted extended powers to make technology companies responsible for protecting adults and children from harmful content, including violence, terrorism, cyber-bullying and child abuse. They will also be expected to “minimize the risks” of harmful content appearing at all.

This is the Government’s first response to the Online Harms consultation 2019. The Government will set the direction of the policy, but will give Ofcom the freedom to devise and adapt the details so that they can tackle emerging threats without requiring new legislation."

OK. The net is closing in on all online harms as many of users on this thread wished. Now that Ofcom (Office of Communication) is officially appointed by the UK Government to spearhead the Duty of Care initiative. We can expect Ofcom to regulate online games with the standard they imposed on TV, radio programs and other entertainment and communication content... but this highly likely means nothing on MTX content as they can't regulate entertainment content. BTW, Ofcom totally left out loot boxes and MTX in their comments.

@I Lack Heart

Please don't flame someone for posting on your 2 year old thread.

You keep bumping it and not adding any new content to the discussion. You need to add fresh new content to keep it going.

The thread has really past it's sell by date. ;)

Glad to see this thread is still going, thanks @I Lack Heart for bumping it. Wonder when, if anything, will ever make Jagex make Treasure Hunter less addictive. Personally, I can admit to spending hundreds, if not thousands back in 2016 so I could unlock all the lucky equipment, during the Wonderbar promotion: https://runescape.wiki/w/Wonderbar

I see that they've changed it now to Wonderbar II: https://runescape.wiki/w/Wonderbar_II

Just in case anyone didn't know, lucky equipment isn't worth spending money on keys to try and get. Personally, would rather see a promotion which lets us choose what we want, whether exp, cosmetics, or money. Personally, if you want gp, I recommend buying bonds. At least with that, you know what you have to pay to get x gp.

I'm neutral on Treasure Hunter, I don't think it totally kills the game off but at the same time I think it is something that should regulated so that it doesn't become the game in itself, I had an account from 2004-2009/10 and remember when the Squeal of Fortune was added and since coming back to RS recently I think the Treasure Hunter system in itself works a lot better than the Squeal of Fortune did.
