I'm sure there may already be a thread or two about it, and yes I'm well-aware of Trimmed Masterwork, but it seems unusual to have Elite Sirenic and Tectonic, but no Elite Malevolent. I spent a good sum of gold just to dye my Malevolent, get hyped about the T92 elite variants, and then just find Trimmed Masterwork out and about instead.

Going to try and be a bit more nuanced than just saying "Trimmed Masterwork exists", but I think it's a matter of the armor sets being subjected to different circumstances.

Elite Sirenic and Tectonic were both designed with the Elite Dungeons in mind, and while they could have found a way to tie Elite Malevolent to The Shadow Reef, the Mining and Smithing rework had also been in the works for a while, and IIRC, a significant part of the design for that rework was to create an item sink while still retaining the values of PvM drops. As such, Malevolent Armor became a material for Masterwork Armor to retain its value.

Yes, it is a little weird to not have Elite Malevolent as its own distinct set, but it kind of makes sense. I think it would be a little weird to frame Elite Dungeons and the M&S rework as "competing" with each other, but it's more that Elite Dungeons served a purpose that could apply to all Tier 90 armor, but the M&S rework only applied to Malevolent Armor.

what about masterwork ranged and magic armor?:P

You joke, but Ranged and Magic reworks in the style of the M&S rework were the second and third most popular updates on the annual survey, and I would be surprised if they did those reworks without including some kind of masterwork-style armors.

However, that then raises further questions, like if they do make that armor, how do they design them? Would they be Tier 95? If so, then would that not suggest that there then needs to be a corresponding Tier 95 armor for melee?
