Let's go back in time a bit here
I was 14 years old, a few of my friends in school were talking about some strange event that happened in a game where a player went on a killing spree. This interested me, so I made an account shortly after. I wasn't quite sure if I would continue to play, so I just went with "Meatman164"... and sure enough, this man of meat got hooked. I spent way more time than I should have on my father's old HP desktop just grinding away, hanging out with friends from school, and building friendships with people across the globe that have mostly lasted to this day.
As time went on, a lot of my friends from school slowly moved away from RuneScape, mostly due to the mass exodus that was caused by the removal of Wilderness PK'ing and free trading. I continued, though, as I had zero interest in PvP. New friends were made as clans were introduced, and I found a new love for combat when Summoning was released. I ran a 60-person clan with my irl best friend, my first few 99s were gained, and I couldn't have been happier. Something big was coming, though.
Feb. 2012
Sure, many people thought 2012 was the end of the world because of "Mayan predictions", but for many who played RuneScape, this fear was justified. The implementation of SOF due to pressure by investors was a real smack in the face to long-time veterans of the game. Up until this point, Jagex had a clear stance on game integrity. If I had known this would have gotten worse, I would have jumped ship.
Then came the double-whammy.
EOC
Now, I gave Jagex the benefit of the doubt, and while extremely rough at first, I grew to love the changes to combat mechanics. Not everyone felt this way, though, as an absolutely huge amount of players left the game. My clan with my best friend was left with less than 20 members, so we disbanded. Violent Blaze was dead. I moved on to a new clan, The Mighty Red Dragons, a clan roughly 150 strong even after EOC.
