unfortunately people still fall for it.
That's because they're either new to the game or kids that don't know any better.

The perpetrators of this obvious scam are not looking for new accounts. We still see this problem on the Forums mostly from well established account holders.
If people are "kids" that lack the savvy to know anything about account security and the basic security pitfalls of the game then it is questionable they should be blindly playing a MMORPG.
But lets be honest even kids know the way of the games world these days but they can often lack the effort to put common sense and readily available knowledge in to practise.

Two very simple things that all should be aware of Gold crown/Silver crown & Authenticator.

Yeah, that would make sense but I've been targeted at least 5 times on new accounts.

I'm kinda confused. Kids aren't gonna know anything about account security or security pitfalls of a game because they're too busy being a kid, kids do things blindly and without common sense.

Anyways, back on topic.

Sorry to hear you fell for it on 5 new accounts.

You think kids being busy being kids should have someone help them when they make an account and agree to the T&C or should they be allowed to not have any responsibilities?

The targets are, by a long margin, far from all being new accounts as the historical forum posts about this problem will repeatedly testify - one eg. OP Total Level 2,317

Hi BenjiáBreeg.

There's security advice here:
Security Help
Safest to assume they have all the information you typed in on their website, even if you didn't click submit or whatever. They will have your IP address, so make sure your firewalling is set up properly to prevent remote accesses to your PC.

It's best just to report these accounts in game for staff impersonation as soon as they contact you. Jagex will only ever send you pmod invites via your account's message centre, never in game.
