I'm going to preface by saying I know this is going to look like I just can't be pleased, so if that's your only criticism, thanks, I'm already aware.

I had largely gotten to the point where I ignored daily challenges before, because they either were tedious, I had to turn in items that I didn't want to, or it was something I just had zero interest in spending time on. So, kudos to the team for recognizing the issues, because you're spot on.

When I logged on and looked at them today, the one thing they DO now offer is flexibility! Perhaps too much flexibility. They're also not very "challenging". I get that the idea was to have them take less time from other gameplay, so that is good.

I'm open to suggestions but I admit I'm not really here offering solutions. I want something in the middle, I guess. Something level-appropriate with a range of options that even after all my time in the game, might get me doing something I haven't or normally wouldn't.

So even after the change (which isn't a bad thing), I'm still just not interested to do these things.

I think you you have a point.

I didn't really mind the challenges too much the way they were, except when I got things that, as an Ironman, would take me months to accomplish due to the rarity of the materials. In that instance, the flexibility would be good.

One of my issues is that they vastly overcompensated with the quantity needed to complete the challenge. It went from "336 fletched and strung maple bows" to "25 fletched bows of any kind." Takes less than a minute to complete and requires absolutely no effort on my part. It's less of a challenge and more of a thing to do to get free xp.

Another issue is that, unlike you, I didn't have a problem with turning things in. What in the name of Guthix do I need with 336 willow shieldbows? I was glad to turn them in for a loot bag...and there's the problem for me: no more loot bags. It was the only way that I, as an Ironman, could reliably get dragonstones. Now I have to wait until I have 101 slayer before I have a chance to get glories. You simply can't depend on crystal keys.

But I think the worst part of this update is that now I'm getting challenges that I can't do. My thieving challenge went from pickpocketing NPC's to cracking safes...something I can't do for another 15 thieving levels.

-----

My solutions would be:

1) Increase the quantity to something more reasonable considering the reward. Today, I got TWO herblore levels out of making 10 pots. That's just flippin' ridiculous.

2) Incentiveize crafting higher level goods. Yeah, you can fletch regular bows if you want, but you won't be getting a lot of xp out of it if you can fletch elder bows.

3) Give us the option of turning things in for a loot bag. That way you could keep the items you want to keep, but still get rid of things you don't. Seriously, I'm not wasting nats alching maple short bows.

4) I'm sure this part was just a mistake, but stop giving people challenges they can't do.

Increasing the quantity and tier of items would do the most good, I think. Requiring a level 99 Fletcher to make 25 of any bow and not even need to add bowstrings is...not a challenge. It's just free xp.

Not too happy about the change. I didn't mind handing over the construction flatpacks!!!, they are worthless now.

As mentioned before, it is getting less and less challenging to obtain XP.

Honestly only complaint is keeping the dang keeping the flatpacks which are the most worthless thing you usually make via dailies, most dailies were not hard in first place except for ironman accounts and usually only for fletching or herb dailies

Two things I noticed:

1) Challenges went from specific to general. This is both good and bad, depending on the skill. For FM, rather than do Beacons, something my HCIM couldn't access (because I hadn't done the quest) it changed into burning 25 of any log. Massive difference. For Herblore, it changed from 3 combination potions at 99+ to any 10 potions. For Construction, it went from 120 specific flatpacks to any 25 flatpacks.

2) You keep everything. Rather than turning in a challenge for a bag of loot now you just get the XP, which appears to be around 1 huge lamp worth of XP. The loot was the only thing keeping challenges going for Ironmen.

I think the update has gone too far in the other direction. While the former tasks were time consuming or niche, they were tailored to your level. Now they are so general it is laughable. Combat went from killing 21 100+ combat enemies to killing 25 enemies.

My solution would be to have tiers. Lv 26, use the lowest item/ source as a base and anything above that counts towards the task. 40+, 60+, 80+ etc. Tasks shouldn't take a minute to complete unless everything is pregathered (such as manufacturing skills). It should take a little bit of time to complete for the XP it rewards.

Thanks, these comments are all pretty much matching my experience and opinions about the dailies. The update definitely has swung too far the other direction.

I really didn't have experience with the flatpacks as I never did Construction dailies anyway, and probably would not be any more likely to do them under the new system -- probably less likely actually from the sounds of it.

I agree most things (especially bows) I could give up and not miss. I know there were times though that it asked for potions or specific food that I really wasn't keen on giving away if I was going to make them. What I got from the lootbag reward was usually less desirable and didn't make up for what I was giving away.

But I did think that when they said "better rewards" in the dev description that there would have been a rework on items. Instead it seems items were removed, and they've just changed xp handouts.

DedGrlWalkin, I like and absolutely agree with your 4 solutions.

You all have made good points from the perspective of non-maxed, or iron men accts, thanks.

The only other thing I've noted on a non-maxed, f2p acct is that they need to be clear on defining what qualifies: I had a crafting challenge that asked for 25 "equipment" or some such. Well, what does that mean? Crafting emerald amulets didn't work. I haven't tried clay urns. I'm assuming it probably means just armor or something, but that's fairly limited. That's fine, it just needs to be clear what constitutes "equipment".

The rework seems like there wasn't much effort or thought put into it.

Flatpacks are amazing for disassembly, crafted & simple.

Also Jagex can't win either way, so the update is fine.
Intended or not, (& I believe it was intended even though it hasn't necessarily been advertised as such), this is a reduction to dailyscape & is a welcome update.

Except for the lack of scaling past 98 (which genuinely only affected dungeoneering, since all other 120 skills were either not viable or not feasible) they did a great job. Maybe it is a bit too easy, but better this than having a lot of skills you'd instablock the second you reach the level cap.

And to be honest - making 5 pieces of furniture and cashing in a huge lamp isn't that bad compared to the old challenge...

As someone who mainly plays F2p iron at the moment, I absolutely love the NEW daily challenges and changes. (Mostly) Going from having to string 330+ yew long bows was no fun at all! Especially picking flax, etc. Lol- That being said, I think most of the changes have been a huge plus. From the xp balancing to simplifying some of the more tedious tasks.

That being said, I understand the point of this post. They did at least add multiple challenges to some of the dailies. Example: One day it's fletching bows, another day it's making arrows. So that beaks up the super redundancy factor a little bit I suppose.

Now, playing on that, if they simply added more random challenges per skill, it would seem a bit more fun and productive. Perhaps a prayer challenge could be, "Bury or cremate 25 bones for the Evil Chicken! He demands a sacrifice." Something as simple as changing it up could make a huge difference. I got a 100 more if you need ideas Jagex! :)

Perhaps even make a rarer challenge that comes up once in a while that has more of a backstory on the little daily challenge tab, and requires a bit harder work? Fairly simple stuff to implement I'd think. Just a thought. Good day.
