I can understand the confusion from Lord Drakan's post above, but I do not think he meant to imply the Kudos requirement was for the 'Community event'.
The way I read his post was bemoaning the fact that there is a 2 week grind festMTX promotion 'Community event' in the lead up to the release of the new Island, AND (as a separate point) there is also no mention so far in the news posts of a Kudos requirement for traveling to the island (which was an earlier point made in this thread.) As Draco said 'the reward for the kudo is getting access to the island', so if this is no longer a requirement it further undermines a player's sense of achievement when playing through that content to earn that reward (which was Blackwing's point.)
Both of these are disappointments, which take the shine off of what could be a very exciting update.
Or, as Lord Drakan put it much more succinctly:Lord Drakansaid: Mtx event in preparation...
Personally, I'm more concerned about the two week grindfest aspect than the MTX aspect.
I know I'm going to take part in this event, and not because I want to, but because I feel I need to. It feeds into my psychological fear of missing out. Jagex knows this (in fact they count on it as part of their marketing strategy), because every time they run a limited time community event like this there are complaints about yet more 'dailyscape' (and they are fully aware about how the community feels about dailyscape.)
Just how bad it will be for this event, and how much daily activity will be required to achieve all the rewards (without resorting to MTX) remains to be seen. But given Jagex's track record, I'm not entirely optimistic.–= MEGA Construction Rework =–
