I'll touch on a few things here and then leave you be. I can see three different groups of people either posting or perhaps having an interest in posting in the future, and I have a message for each. There are those who see the community in a constant state of distress and can usually be found lobbing dozens of ideas on how to "Fix The Community", some good, some bad, at anyone with a pulse. There are those who are only here, despite what they will tell you, to further their own agendas under the pretense of making World 42 a "better" community for its members. And there are those precious few who see a struggling group of internet-goers and are naive enough to believe that they can solve the problems of this place, and do the best they can.

To the first group of roleplayers,

Stop. Please. If you could have fixed the many problems that have come to define our community you would have done so by now. It has never been for lack of trying that your ideas and plans and Community Meetings and Friends Chats and Skype Groups and so much more have failed. Sit back, relax, roleplay for fun and try not to worry to much or encourage others to worry too much about a video game.

To the second group of roleplayers,

You know who you are. There's a reason you're on the blacklists, and it has nothing to do with how mean you are or how strong your armed forces are or even whether or not someone likes you. You're on them because you've received those second, and third, and fourth chances for your behavior, and blew them all to Hell, disappointing everyone who gave you the benefit of the doubt. Stay away. You're no longer welcome here.

And lastly to the third group,

You are the hope left behind in Pandora's Box, you precious few roleplayers who neither have an ax to grind nor an ulterior motive to further. I don't envy you. I have no advice for you. All anyone can ask is that you never lose that hope. Good luck. We are attempting to survive our time so we may live into yours.

Typing from phone, will be brief.

Getting rid of blacklists is fine and good and I think it would work if there wasn't a small gaggle of idiots who would use it as a chance to play gods or whatever in the public sphere. You know who you are. We need to blacklist stupid and outrageous characters but not the players behind them to encourage fair character creation. Its not fair for anyone if your character is a huge indestructible titan or a mahjarrat.

We need to push for a more evident and enforced set of rules regarding fairness and adding flaws to characters; weaknesses and strengths. If you cant find the people to rp with your power ranger esque character in private then its highly likely nobody wants that shit in public. People harp about limiting character x also limits creativity but that's absolute bullshit. It just means you have to think harder you dumb cunt.

Also controversial opinion time; Limit public RP to the F2P area. This is partially so people don't have to pay for membership to have fun, and also to shrink the map to fit the community. Buying Plant Feed

From "In the Year 2525" By Dennis Zager and Rick Evans

In the year 7510
If God's a coming, He oughta make it by then
Maybe He'll look around Himself and say
Guess it's time for the Judgment Day

In the year 8510
God is gonna shake His mighty head
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down, and start again

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wonderin' if man is gonna be alive?
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing

Now it's been ten thousand years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what, he never knew, now man's reign is through
But through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight
So very far away, maybe it's only ...

I think we should have blacklists, but I also know fine well those won't be fair nor balanced without a council of some sorts, as the blacklistees rarely get a chance to fairly make a case for themselves. We need to talk, but I know we can't or won't.

This is interesting. A council of some sort, next to Dan his idea about a FC of mediators have been proposed multiple times in the past. Who would decide who would be in this council? Would it be just the admins of the clan blacklisting or do you want something bigger?

Do we even have enough people for each city state to be active? Because I reckon it's likely some people will be a part of several, but there will also be people who wouldn't want to join x city because x person runs it. Which isn't exactly a problem, people have different interests, but we aren't as numerous as we used to be.

Ian and Mike, excellent ideas about a solution!

Would landclaims be a solution here? Would rules about ruling a citystate be a thing? What kind of responsibilities would a citystate owner have?

Secondly, allowing any person to mediate over a conflict is giving them power; which really just creates the same issue we had earlier with cliqueiness, groups and politics issues. Perhaps just letting everyone resolve their own things is better? This way if there is an issue it becomes isolated to an extent, because not having mediators doesn't drag the rest of the community into it.

First of all, good points made!

People in power can become an issue yes, so do you think there is a solution to having a group of mediators without them going corrupt? Also, do you think not the whole community of W42 deserves to know what is going on tensionwise? Would some sort of 'newspaper' about W42'ooc state help?

But that's the thing. I didn't. I blacklisted
the leadership,
who while saying concern would be addressed allowed it to continue, and even participated in it. Certainly not the behaviour I'd expect when people who decided to mock them in my clan were disciplined for it.

Hey, I think we already have a solution to some W42 related problems here! Some people should respond to this in a positive way.

I was mediating on this for a while and I don't actually see how it CAN work currently, unless you're a master mediator and you can get a broad spectrum of people involved, to such a degree that despite them having biases, their various biases actually balance one another out. You'd need newer people and older people too.

If you can do that, then make them agree to try and see things from a neutral perspective, then make them agree to be cordial to one another, THEN make them agree to actually found the thing, I think it might work.

Keyword being "might", sadly. I like W42, I don't want it to fall apart, but I also don't want to stick my head in the dirt like IT'S FINE EVERYTHING IS FINE THESE SUGGESTIONS WILL TOTALLY WORK either.

Honestly, this is an idea I could get behind.

Now, obviously if a plot would take you into a members area you could still by all means go there, but I think for the regular POC stuff, it might be better to attempt this. What's better, having all the room in the world with 5 people per city, or having one smaller but still substantial area with the whole community?
