Besides, having 24/7 promo is more like having no promo at all. As in, nobodys going: "Hey, today is yet another promo, lets spend some more money!". Promos work by offering a better deal for a limited amount of time in irregular intervals, so that people might decide to spend money on the occasion; if its always there, thats not happening. Like, do you really think permanently doubling the xp offered by every TH-item would double the sales?

And never mind the whales, the're going to spend money eigther way. If you really lose interest in this game because a few filthy rich people buy their xp - get your shit together. I don't lose interest in cycling because Lance Armstrong can go 3x as fast and gets doping and shit. Tough!

That's why they need to up the ante. Promos are the new normal, so I want super promos. Why lame +100% XP? Ain't nobody gonna get excited about that anymore JaGeX!! Why not +300% XP? Level books are also a great idea!

The good sort is stuff that gives cosmetic rewards, new animations and other such stuff - Little vanity items like that. This is what Solomon's is mostly about.

I agree, for all the reasons you stated. Long-time player friends and I (helring, for one) really enjoy Solomon's. I don't mind coughing up a little real money now and then for Solomon's stuff, and yes, I also see it as a small extra gift for a game I enjoy.

Original message details are unavailable.
The bad kind though - TH in this example - is the whole paying-to-get-ahead model that keeps making the game worse. It's the stuff that people feel obligated to purchase to actually stay ahead of the curve or keep up, and constantly devalues both gp and exp in game.

I'll play devil's advocate for just a moment; I think someone said it elsewhere. SoF/TH was introduced partly to give sanctioned gambling: duel staking and in-game improvised gambling have been suppressed. I'll also add that XP promotions as such are probably meant to remove incentives to RWT in selling accounts.

So crushing RWT, botting, and farming, as I take it, has been a very systematic and integrated process. I didn't mention everything- such as Bonds, but, you get the idea.

THAT SAID, I do agree it's being done in a very ham-fisted, heavy way. I have noted that these promos, including TH, have ramped up almost exponentially over time. But I won't go to OSRS- I've played this game heavy enough since 2003, and doing that feels like so much retread.

Brilliant analogies, sir- of course, I especially liked "whales" after talking about TH being sanctioned gambling.

This is generally my approach, too- I largely ignore it. I'll do Daily Tasks for TH promos I fancy. Granted, I'm working back to maxed; and I freely agree with those who foretold the intent of Invention: Invention largely gets us to grind the game all over again- combat, skilling, or a combo of the two. Sure, the perks can be nice, but I realized during training- I'm doing skills I've already got 99s in.

I don't understand all the hate for these promos. I'm a returning player after about 12 years of absence, with a total level of just over 1700. I understand that these promos open a window for wealthy individuals (or people who make horrible financial decisions) to gain a substantial "boost" in the game, and I suppose that could be viewed as unfair, but the way I look at it: the promos are beneficial to everyone, including myself, and really only seem like a good thing.

The only reason I can think of that makes any sense to me, is if someone doesn't want to "boost" their way to the top (instead wants to achieve things with the full grind), but they ALSO don't want anyone else to have the luxury that they themselves have condemned. To those people, I would say to just cash out your TH rewards, drop the gold, and try to get a grip on your own values in life. Enjoy the game the way you want to enjoy it, and let others do the same. No need to be petty; nobody is robbing you.

I do agree though that having them all the time is a little bit boring. But it's still a plus in my book.

The fundamental problem is keys are too expensive. If promos didn't exist why would anyone buy keys for p2w right? It's $5/15 keys, a bond is $5.99 and gets you like close to 14m gp. With bonds you can use obnoxiously expensive powerleveling tricks that beat BXP. Bond is going to win almost every time except in skills not are not so buyable like AGI. JaGeX needs to either lower to the cost of keys or basically make OP promos all the time, or nobody buys them.

Bond sales are a lot crappier money for JaGeX because the upside is something like $1.66 per bond (the value of bond over the value of membership). The upside of TH sales is exactly the cost of the keys, it's 100%!

So I see you brought this event back, however there appears to be a issue getting exp from the dust or meteorites, often it'll say the granted exp but you'll never actually earn it and therefore have wasted the items for no yield. As of this moment this bug has caused a loss of now over 1mil exp.
