Mod Ash will we get the halloween event the update after corp? Really looking forward to it thanks!
We'd like to put Halloween out on Thursday 23rd, although that's kinda dependent on me doing the work first. I've made a start. It'll want testing too.
I assume Ironman accounts won't be able to buy items that are not normally sold by npc shops (items other players sold to general stores). Will ultimate ironman be able to sell and buy an item back from general shops to unnote them?
Iron Men cannot buy items from a shop that a player has sold to that shop... even if that player was the Iron Man themselves. Sorry.
Also thanks a lot Ash for the bank pin update, so much more fluid. Holy cow! good job
Thank you - I hope you all like it
Oh btw Ash, do ironmen get a chat icon?
No. Chat icons do not appear popular with the OSRS community, so we left it out.
Ash - Will there be quests that is not do-able on Ultimate ironman mode?
I'd like to be first to complete all quests on ultimate ironman mode.
No idea. We'll be keeping an eye out for the first iron men to get 246 QP, including the first ultimate iron man.
I am Pat said:
Could it be possible to make it so ultimate ironman have a way to unnote items in a future update?
Probably, although for the moment we're focusing on making the restrictions work rather than adding ways for Iron Men to get around them.
You can't pick up stuff if 1 guy hits a 1. So imagine ur doing solo Bandos. Other guy hits him, ur screwed.
If it was me I'll rage 24/7. Not good for my health tbh.
Indeed. However, if an Iron Man could have a friend helping deal the damage to get loot more easily, that's not in the spirit of an Iron Man either. So we added this restriction.
Fortunately we have a lot of game worlds.
Oh ok, it's just I heard Mat K saying there will be icon on the YouTube video, but no problem.
At the bottom left corner of your screen, in the chatbox, there's a little icon that shows YOU that you're an Iron Man. But it doesn't appear to other players when you chat.
This update sucks, does it make any diffrent to the game? Was it necessary? I mean come on.. Because of this update we get more players? Jagex, This is trash, one of the mistakes you guys made way back..
Dear valued customer,
I'm sorry you do not see the need for this update. Many players seem very excited about it, and voted for it to be released, but I appreciate you're not one of them.
We released a lot of new content last Thursday, and we have every intention of releasing the Corporeal Beast this Thursday. So the Iron Man update is in fact a bonus update in addition to the normal rate of content releases.
Nevertheless, I understand you don't want to use it. Fortunately you don't have to. I hope the extra reboot hasn't disrupted your gaming too badly.
Not every update is designed to "get more players"; sometimes we do things that existing players ask for, for their enjoyment, even if the update won't necessarily boost Jagex's bank account.
Only about 200 players actually supported and looked forward to this.
Over 25k of them voted for it.
Blue Sector said:
Instead why haven't you guys worked on making OSRS more responsive, such as the bank pin is now super fast (thank you)
Clearly we did. Hence the bank PIN update.
Blue Sector said:
Why not make everything super fast responsive like it is in rs3?
clicking an item to wield takes like a second. taking it off takes like 3/4 a second. why not fix that?
While we could apply some clientside de-lagging to give the (false) impression of a faster response time, like RS3 has, the action's taking place as soon as the server gets the signal; we're not going to be able to make it take effect faster.

and put in a GE for oh lawd sake
We polled the ability to exchange items through the trading post, but there wasn't enough support. In fact, Iron Man mode got more support than that.
Please man, i hope you understand what i try to say.
To be honest, no, I don't.
You guys ruined this game way back, with pvp GE and all that other ****, you lost a lot of players why??? Because they weren't enjoying the game! WHY? BECAUSE THESE UPDATES.
Yes, over the years, there've been updates applied to RuneScape that made massive changes to the game, and not everyone wanted to continue playing.
What I don't understand is why you see Iron Man mode as such a big deal.
It might encourage some people to make an alternate account that doesn't trade or take items from other players. But not everyone's going to do that. Mostly, I'd expect the vast majority of players to keep playing exactly like they did before the update. Including you.
So I'm not seeing why you're raging so much about it, or comparing it to "new ppl coming and like 1/5 of them want to change it to World of Warcraft sht".
Am I right in saying the following?
Everyone who wants this & has left tutorial island, will have to create another account, subscribe again, then select ironman/ultimate ironman on tutorial island.
If this is true it seems very unlikely that this is an update implemented for players enjoyment rather than to boost the coffers.
That'd assume that all the players who subscribe an Iron Man account will continue paying for their main account at the same time. It'd be nice for Jagex if they did, but I'm not expecting much of it. I'd think it more likely that we'll get about the same subscription revenue from the same people.
The reason you can't convert an existing account to be an Iron Man is that we're basically unable to see if you've always kept to the official Iron Man rules. So we can't tell whether you qualify.

because ASH, don't you guys have better sht to do? Make the game better. But you guys aren't making it better, I don't see anything good of this in the game.
Ah, so your complaint isn't about what Iron Man mode does, it's about us wasting time making the update when we could have spent the time doing a different update.
We pitched Iron Man mode in a poll like anything else, and it got over 75% support. That's more support than a lot of suggestions get.
I pay to play a game I Like but if you ppl changing it with stupid updates, then you lost another member, me.
I don't agree that Iron Man mode has changed the game. There may be a few players walking around in a new kind of low-level armour, and they don't trade, but I really don't agree that this is changing the game.
Have you thought of implementing and allowing multiple characters on one account? I understand this could be very hard as a simple idea is not always simple in game development.
Yes. It's something the Stellar Dawn team looked at, a while back. Turns out it's a very big departure from how the account system has always worked, and that's quite hard to rewrite due to there being ~14 years of systems built on it.
But I agree it would be very nice to have, and I wish we could get it.
I know your point ash,
It didnt change the game, mmm it does, something new came in this game, so ye it defenitly does.
We fixed a typo last week too. Mmm, something changed in this game. Life went on.
And yes, what you said about wasting time on these things.
We add updates for people who like Slayer.
We add updates for people who like PvP.
We add updates for people who wanted more costumes and hairstyles.
We add updates for people who use POH and Farming.
Not every update is appreciated by every player. Sometimes - hopefully - we'll do an update that's designed to appeal to you. And sometimes we'll do an update that's designed to appeal to someone who isn't you.
And yes ash maybe its 75 percent, maybe it is. but if you make a poll,
Should we make OSRS available for every one,
Lets make commercials?
I bet there will be a 100%
I'm sure lots of people would love to play completely free of charge.
Mind you, it wouldn't have any staff. Advert revenue brings in peanuts. So, since you apparently do want updates, albeit not Iron Man updates, your proposal to remove subscription fees isn't very promising.
Could we get the option to reset existing accounts for the purpose of iron man?
Annoyingly, we have no facility for resetting accounts. This is a real pain when pures get Defence XP by mistake, or when Ting Kriz accidentally completes Tutorial Island without making himself into an Iron Man.
We've asked for such a facility. So far the engine team hasn't had any opportunity to create it for us. But we still want it.
If there is any possible way to reset back to tutorial island, transfer my membership, refund my membership, or allow my account to become an iron man as I haven't had any player interaction yet, I would greatly appreciate it.
I've replied in your other thread about this.
offtopic; are bug reports checked consistently? and how long until inactive account names become available?
Mod John C goes through the bug reports very frequently. Several times, most days. He doesn't send replies as far as I know; that'd take a lot longer, and he'd never get anything else done.
It's not predictable how long until inactive account names become available. The engine team did several big batches earlier this year, and will likely do more in future. But I haven't seen a schedule.
Like I said my english isnt that good, if you were speaking my language it would be diffrent.
Yes, I really appreciate you making the effort to explain what you're complaining about.
I said I want updates but only good ones, not updates like these,
Like I said, different updates are targeted at different players. This one appeals to some people, but you're clearly not interested in it. Maybe the next update will appeal to you, but those other players will find it irrelevant.
What about removing 10 worlds so the worlds would be more crowded, if I go in world 303 and walk to varrock mid, no one is there.
That's what I call a good update.
We polled something like that already this year. It didn't pass.

Is Mod Archie ChrisArchie?
Yes. You can tweet him @JagexArchie although we've not got him properly online yet.

Wouldn't it be ... fairly simple to make it like in runesape3 where ironmen(specifically just iron men) could buy/use instance boss rooms where it is just them in the room?
I'd be up for creating that private boss room feature, if it passed a poll. But we haven't just snuck it into the Iron Man update as an unexpected extra feature.
In The Bay said:
Off topic.. but does the oldschool team ever appoint any new pmods?
Seems like theres not very many anymore.
That's one for the Community Management team, I'm afraid. We don't do the picking. I hadn't heard of RS3 getting new pmods recently either, tbh, so I don't think it's an OSRS-specific thing.
Will there be updates for armour sets as the mode pans out over the next weeks, months etc? Aside from the highscores what can be done to allow to be distinguised as an Ironman?
Certainly could do, although I'm not so sure we'd want to have it handed out for free in Lumbridge if it were genuinely useful. The thing about the Iron Man armour is that it's effectively a cosmetic outfit.
Is this THE Ian Gower?!
Yes. He's been away helping the Transformers team for a while, but has transferred back to RuneScape to join us.
In The Bay said:
Hopefully we can get that in a poll sometime in the future when ironmen start hitting some higher levels.
Iron Men aside, it's something I'd happily consider developing as an update anyway. We'd have to make a few mapping changes around the doorways, and we'd need to let you pay without wasting an inventory slot on coins (since we don't have money pouches) but those things are solvable.
I did, however, notice that there isn't really a dedicated paragraph or list of what perks can come of initiating in the Ironman mode besides the high-scores and armour, but is that it?
Yeah, that's pretty much it. Players started making Iron Man accounts when there wasn't even any official form of recognition, just because they felt like it.
I just went through this forum looking for answers to my question about setting up an iron man account on the email address for my current account. It doesn't look like I can, but I'd still like confirmation.
No, I'm afraid it's one email address = one OSRS account.

I thought that you where unable to pick up other peoples drops as an iron man, yet while I was thieving at the silk stall in ardy i saw someone (not an ironman) kill a guard, minute or so later the onion seeds and bones appeared?
Have i misunderstood the rules?
You're correct. Iron Men cannot pick up other player's drops.
In the case you described, some player got the loot but left it on the ground. After a while, the items become visible to all players, as usual. If an Iron Man came along, they'd see those items too, but they'd be prevented from picking them up or telegrabbing them, since the items were dropped for a different player.
On a side note,
if you could make it so that ironman accounts can trade items away, but not receive any, people could lock their accounts on ironman without risk of losing it if it is hijacked, and still allow them to sell their 17 armadyl hilts.
This will however bring more items into the economy which might not be good as ironman is actually a decent 'passive' item sink.
Yeah, we could change that. It wouldn't be hard. However, for the reason you've just given, I'm inclined to leave this alone for now.
Need to fix the Ironman Emblem in OSRS, it doesnt carry over to chat or even on back clicking to know who is ironman and who isnt, it shows who works harder, i dont want to just know im an ironman, i like that other people know i am working hard for what i have
... but given how many players don't want to see OSRS filling up with titles or chat-icons, we've chosen not to enable that feature for now.
change to ultimate iron man on existing account please.
you that have an account, you deposit all of your itens and gold in your bank, than change to ultimate iron man mode and than your levels are saved, next you "lose" your lvls to 1 and start the iron man mode.
i think ultimate iron man mode is amazing but i dont like the idea to create another account, because if i knew that iron man mode would exist, might i waited to be an iron man
While it might be nice to put your "main" character on hold, and create an Iron Man alternate account on the same subscription and email address, that's not something we've been able to offer.
Stellar Dawn tried something like that - in fact it was more like having a stable of characters associated with your one account - but they didn't have 14 years of legacy systems and a mammoth saved-game database to convert. RuneScape does.
I am weasel said:
There is a little thing that annoys me, and that's the fact you can see what other players drop.
Yes, that can be annoying. We currently don't have the facility in the '07 engine to control what items players can/can't see based on their Iron Man status.
Also, while people are still getting used to Iron Man mode, it might be clearer for the item to be visible, so you can get a message explaining why you can't take it. If the item didn't show at all, you might well be wondering where it is, and whether it'll become visible if you wait long enough.
That'll stop being an issue after a while, since Iron Men will be more accustomed to how it works, so if we ever get the engine support to make the items invisible to Iron Men, we'd do it.
I am weasel said:
However, what if you got a bit creative?
Maybe internally, a "character selection screen" is really just an "account selection screen". The engine basically creates a new user account, but with a flag that it is a character, and not a login account.
i.e. having multiple characters associated with one account. See above.

How do you use the same account with OSRS and RS3? Is this because the games are completely seperated?
They're actually not separated at all. That's why you can't log into the two games at the same time. (We'd like to get that changed too.)
Basically, each account has one character profile. The character profile contains RS3 stats and items and variables, plus OSRS stats and items and variables. But it only contains one set of each.
I am weasel said:
What if you just, like, added a suffix to the e-mails, with a special symbol. f.ex: "myemail@runemail(dot)net#1".
So you're effectively describing a separate account, but linked (in Jagex's databases) to your original account, so you only had to pay for one of them. Yeah, that's quite a big departure from what the systems currently support.
I am weasel said:
(pls dont hate me)
Okay, since you said 'pls', I won't.
Remember, just about anything's possible. But some things would take a lot of dev-time. Okay, no-one's afraid of spending dev-time on a job, but any time spent doing one job is time that can't be spent on any other job. So a huge job - such as revamping all the modules that would be affected by a major change to the saved-game setup - might take so long that it'd conflict with other things people need the engine team to do.
More seriously, if you're going to propose ways for the engine team to change stuff, you'll do better discussing it with them. Especially now we have one of them.

I've noticed there's still a small delay after typing in your pin correctly.
Yes. That's not going away. The buttons are smoother when you're typing the PIN, but the client still has to transmit your PIN choice to the server, and wait for the result to come back. If we did the entire PIN check on the client, a modified client could bypass the PIN check.
Hey Mod ash, does looting bag exist for ironmen? Can you use it?
It exists and they can put stuff in it. But since the bag just delivers things to the bank, and ultimate iron men can't use the bank, it's not going to help them very much.
How are the death mechanics for an ultimate ironman? You die and lose all your items...
Yup. Just like if you were skulled and didn't have Protect Item enabled.
I understand that, but does the account get locked out from playing osrs ever again?
No. You respawn at your respawn point, as usual, and carry on playing. You can even try to run back and collect your stuff.
Or will you be reverted back to a normal ironman to continue playing OR sent back to tutorial island?
No, you remain as an ultimate iron man, and you don't go to Tutorial Island ever again.
This is different from RS3. That's basically because OSRS has very different death behaviour to RS3, so we had no reason to make our Ultimate Iron Men work like whatever they've got.
Can you stop dodge the question @Mod Ash?
With the best will in the world, I'm never going to be able to answer every question. Sorry, I'm not dodging you personally.
Is there NO WAY that I can get Iron Man on this account? Did the tutorial island and thought you had to talk to the guys at lumbridge.
To become an Iron Man, you need to set it up with the tutors on Tutorial Island. They're on the main path so that people don't miss them.
The Support team may be able to transfer your credit to another account if you've accidentally subscribed your new one already - despite the free 2-week period - and taken it off Tutorial Island.
I was a bit annoyed that you decided to name the iron man characters "Adam and Paul". Regardless of what you say, you favor video makers and streamers, way too much.
Yes, we favoured Adam and Paul there. We respect what they did, especially Adam's fundraising drive that raised so many thousands of pounds for the Macmillan cancer charity, and we have decided to honour them in a way that harms no-one.
If I had made an iron man two years ago, would there be one named David? Probably not, because i'm not a favorite of Jagex.
They didn't get to be favourites of Jagex by chance, they did it by being major leaders of the community and driving substantial amounts of traffic to OSRS through their streaming. For which we are grateful. We could mark this with free membership or something, if we haven't already, but naming an NPC is a simple tip-of-the-hat to them too, without being intrusive to other players.
Other than that, good stuff. I'm loving the bank PIN revamp.

No, we weren't planning to do anything special with RS Classic.

What about heros quest and the other quests you need to trade another player in?
In the newspost, it mentions the following:
Items that need to be traded between players during quests can now be used on other players to transfer them.
This applies (only) to those two quests: Shield of Arrav and Heroes' Quest.

@Ash, I noticed that you said that the OSRS engine is lacking facilities to do certain things (unable to reset/lock xp, unable to control what Ironmen accounts see, etc..)
When do you think they will catch up to be able to do things like this? Would really love to see a def xp lock or reset function.
You may have heard that we finally got our own engine dev today. Hopefully, once he's got his computer all set up, he'll be able to start working on the things we'd like changed in the engine.
That doesn't necessarily mean he'll immediately deliver all the things you've just listed. After all, we've had a lot of engine requests over the last 18 months, of varying priorities. Also, it may turn out that some things are simply unfeasible even with one engine developer on the team.
Tru Khaoz said:
Also, an unrelated question, but do you think OSRS will ever see a return of PVP armor and weapons in their original form (corrupt/noncorrupt) now that Bounty Hunter has been released? Really miss using a CVLS.
I really can't see them passing a poll. They've never had a good reception when we've raised the topic before.

This minority-appeasing feces gets put in in the span of a couple of weeks, and we still have yet to hear of the trading solution. Glad to see everyone has their goddamn priorities straight and all.
By "minority" I guess you mean the people who voted for it. That's over 75%.
You don't have a trading solution yet because we spent the last few months waiting for the engine team to have a chance to deliver it. They have to cater to the needs of the whole RuneScape department, not just OSRS, so we've often had to wait a while when we need stuff from them.
I'm hoping that this won't be the case so much, now that we've got our own dedicated engine dev.
Meanwhile, it's true that we could have had a complete embargo on delivering any update until the trade system was delivered, but you'd have been waiting several months now without any updates at all, and it wouldn't actually have made the trade system come much faster.
It'd be nice to have the Ironman armour as a cosmetic override option so that way if I have Mithril on, you can still tell I'm an Ironman. Just a suggestion.
Cosmetic overrides feel very "not OldSchool" to me.
Might be just me, though.
We originally pitched the idea of a chat icon that'd show all nearby players that you're an Iron Man whenever you speak, but that was unpopular so we left it out.
We could always get Mod Ghost to do an emote of some sort.
