note: the post begins on the previous page

as the situation tenses, the emperor notices christina getting up, having recovered from his previous attack on her. she spots him rushing towards her and closes her eyes in concentration, glowing a faint orange. the emperor attacks her with a fierce uppercut, and while she is unharmed, the impact throws her backwards nonetheless. she lands on her feet, and the emperor wastes no time throwing another punch. christina holds her arms to the side, and a ball of earth engulfs her before crumbling to nothing. from where christina stood stands a female form, skin made of tightly packed earth, and moss in place of hair. the emperor commits to his punch, but the elemental is able to stand her ground, and counters with an earth surge spell aimed towards his abdomen, knocking him off her. the elemental stands still, and the rock appears to crumble, revealing a light green glow that quickly expands, and then just as quickly extinguishes, revealing christina.

the emperor looks at her, slightly surprised, but is interrupted by sarah reclaiming her dagger, and decides to fight her instead. christina takes the time to look across the battlefield, and notices a clearly nervous duncan. she slowly walks towards him

christina: "Have no fear. We will all return home from this battle. Together."

christina stands right in front of duncan. she folds her hands, closes her eyes and bows her head

christina: "Dear Saradomin. Please, grant this man the courage to continue. Grant us all power, so that we may see a brighter tomorrow."

however, christina only fakes her prayer to saradomin, and instead of praying for courage, she secretly bestows a slight increase in magical strength to duncan herself, hoping her prayer tricked him into thinking he was actually granted divine courage. she opens her eyes, and looks at him with a warm, gentle smile

christina: "How do you feel?"

Hi. Do you think we should wait to see if Ashlin posts? I’m happy to continue if you’d prefer but I wasn't sure.

Just to post something for now I’ll put in some info on my character

When I started posting, my initial idea was to have a fire themed character but more recently I thought maybe a different element might work better so I did kind of a retcon. My excuse/ explanation is that everyone on silvarbor is born with an affinity for one of the elements, but they also have sub-elements, which they have a closer link with. My character has an affinity for light which is a sub-element of fire (hence why he’s pretty good with flames and lighting too) but where he’s from light magic is extremely underdeveloped, so he’s been travelling as well as learning and extrapolating techniques from flame and lighting magic to develop a set of new light spells.

Since his element is part of fire he has an aversion to water and a special aversion to ice and cold weather. And his previous ‘immunity' to fire was just because he was using a flame resistance boosting amulet while training so he wouldn’t accidentally burn himself. Now he isn't using it, he's somewhat resistant to burning damage but can be sufficiently harmed by flames.

The parallel version is, as you’ve probably guessed, an earth user, specifically with an affinity for rock. His weakness is air but I haven’t decided what his extra weakness is. I might go with sound.

personally, i was waiting for you to make a move (but ashlin can also have a turn. my idea is that once one makes his move, the two others are good to go). the idea behind my post was for christina to exploit the placebo effect in order to help duncan get over his fear. since you expanded on some of what duncan can do (helps with portraying him more faithfully to your ideas), here are some more, probably less obvious strengths/weaknesses of my team

barlor: as established before, he has extreme levels of strength and endurance, and can tank hits no problem. he also has a resistance to ice and cold to counter his usual weakness for magic, however, he has a crippling weakness to fire magic, and is heavily reliant on close combat to deal damage

christina: alongside everything i stated before, she has immense talent for magic, and a blessing from saradomin allowed her to give herself and others prayer bonuses (alongside eliminating a need for runes to cast magic), however, outside her magic, she is very squishy, so striking before she can use protection prayers puts her out of commission. she is also terrified of spiders, and struggles with moral dilemmas (endangering someone she loves can stop her very quick, but if you lose control of the hostage, she will not be so kind)

sarah: skilled in archery, spears and unarmed combat, as well as exploiting psychological warfare to goad her opponents. her leather armor also makes her very resistant to magic. however, she can easily be manipulated herself, and is heavily reliant on mobility to survive

you know, reading your posts, it seems duncan and barlor have somewhat conflicting weaknesses. duncan hates cold, and barlor is weak to heat

Okay then, I’ll continue to post. Yeah I noticed some opposite themes with our characters. One’s more of a lithe but weedy mage type whereas one is a raw force/ strength based warrior type, one has an affinity for ice and cold and dark conditions, one is basically the opposite. Also your character is more of a destructive force whereas mine uses magic that focuses on constructing things rather than dealing damage directly, making him more effective as a support unit.

---

I shrug, a little nervous still but with a bit more confidence than before.

Me: Better, thanks.

I figure I might as well focus on solid fire techniques for now, as I haven’t yet developed an offensive use for solid light, although it does seem to have worked better than expected. I duck behind a pile of rubble and place my hands out as if I were holding cymbals. A beam of light emerges quite naturally from one, and upon hitting the opposite palm seems to shift and looks for a second as if it’s crumbling. The cluster of material suddenly snaps into a form reminiscent of white hot metal, although it emits no heat. I quickly form a pair of admittedly shoddy cuffs which I don on my ankles, allowing me to enhance my speed and manoeuvrability.

I then dart around the battlefield, moving as evasively as possible and casting the same support spell I used in the ice caves before, giving each ally's weapon a temporary burning effect. Except for Barlor, who gets a solid lighting coat for his blade due to his aversion to fire. This would add a shock effect similar to a taser, without interfering with its function as, well, a sword.

Me: (thinking) the spells are working surprisingly well, even the light cuffs. I wonder if that’s an extra effect from Christina’s prayer?

I continue to zip around the field, throwing weak long ranged spells at the emperor from all directions, more to serve as a distraction than actual damage.
