In just over a day, you voted for a historic shift in RuneScape's direction and the future of MTX within the game. We'll be announcing more details and when to expect these changes to come to life on November 12.
We've seen, read and discussed a whole bunch of your questions since the vote went live. As we've done throughout this process, we want to communicate as early and often as we possibly can - so rather than waiting till the vote closes, we've put together our answers to your burning questions!
And don't forget, while the vote has passed the threshold for these changes to come to life, voting is still open until November 11 at 11:59pm Game Time.
Every vote still matters to show your belief in this direction, so if you love this new direction for RuneScape, make sure to cast your vote here!
FAQ
You mentioned some items removed from sale will no longer be available in the game at all. Which items will be fully removed?
We’ve been moving as fast as we can to enable change as early as possible and deliver on our promises. A side effect of this is heavy prioritisation of our design focus. Given items won’t be removed for an extended grace period after removal from sale (more on this in the FAQ below), we haven’t finalised our full plans in this area.
To provide the clarity you need, we’re sharing a provisional list of items we will remove from gameplay after the extended grace period following removal from sale.
This list is not final but reflects current internal plans for which items will be impacted by a full removal. Our Removal from Sale list is unchanged and will still take place on the date announced when the vote closes.
This list is broken into two areas:
- Provisional Removal List: Items we currently intend to remove from the game at the end of the grace period
- May Be Removed List: These are items we feel may not align with the integrity of the game or ideally shouldn't exist due to unnecessary complexities they introduce. These items may be added to the removal from gameplay list pending the outcomes of Integrity Roadmap work and what we learn from players through that process.
If the item isn’t on this list, we have no plans to remove it fully from the game at any time.

Why are you removing items fully from the game?
Any items signalled in our “Fully Removed” list included in our list above will continue to be available to use until January 1, 2027. This date is a significant amount of time after the removal of Treasure Hunter and associated items from sale.
The MTX Reductions & Integrity Roadmap are about moving RuneScape into a much healthier place that puts the core gameplay back in the spotlight.
While we’ll be removing 225 items from sale, some items conflict with this design ethos enough that continued availability could be harmful.
Following a year-long Integrity Roadmap that will address many of the motivations for using these items, we’ll be making sure the game is fully cleaned up of these conflicting items to make sure we’re offering a consistent, fun experience for all.
I have more items than I could reasonably use up in the grace period. What will you do for me?
We’re working through plans on how we could convert these items and we’ll have firmer updates to share next year. Based on player requests, we’re also considering a way to sink these items early – think a “Well of Integrity” – which may also help.
As a reminder, our original list still stands as items we will remove from sale on the same day we remove Treasure Hunter. We’ll confirm this date on November 12th.
When will I need to use up any Treasure Hunter Keys?
All Treasure Hunter Keys will need to be used before the date of Treasure Hunter’s removal, which we’ll be announcing on November 12th when the vote closes.
Keys from additional in-game sources (e.g. Daily Challenges or Quests) will cease to be available on this day.
Will Treasure Hunter be removed on November 12?
No. As we mentioned in our blog, removing Treasure Hunter and these items is a significant amount of work - and one we need to get right. Now your decision is confirmed, we are now starting work on this huge change for the game.
There will be a couple of months between the conclusion of the vote and Treasure Hunter’s removal. We’ll give you a specific date on when to expect these changes on November 12th.
When can I no longer purchase Treasure Hunter Keys?
Keys will no longer be purchasable one week prior to the removal of Treasure Hunter.
I purchased Premier Membership, which includes additional Daily Keys as part of the offer. What will you do for me?
Treasure Hunter will not be removed immediately on November 12th, so you’ll continue to get extra Daily Keys until the removal of Treasure Hunter.
Shortly before we remove Treasure Hunter, we will provide all Bonus Daily Keys you would have acquired over your remaining year of Premier Membership in one delivery.
This will only be the amount you would get additionally from Premier, and will not include standard daily login Keys. You’ll need to use them up in the limited window before Treasure Hunter is removed, at which point they will no longer be usable.
Will you be adding any MTX to replace what you are removing?
We have no plans to do that beyond what we've announced: Bonus XP Bundles in the Marketplace, and Cosmetics purchasable in the Marketplace. We will increase the regularity of new Cosmetics releases, but with a firmer focus on visual integrity and fit within the world of Gielinor.
Our intention is to reduce the prevalence and focus on MTX so we can put more effort into growing the volume of RuneScape Members to sustain the game.
What's replacing the rewards I usually get from Treasure Hunter, including things like Daily Challenge Keys?
Right now, we have no plans to directly replace these rewards. Our Integrity Roadmap will be how we replace these items by fixing the root issues that make them so valued - like Skilling Balance and addressing Skills that are simply not as fun or accessible as others.
Our Integrity Roadmap will be driven by player feedback and involvement. As an example, as we touch on issues like Dailyscape within our Integrity Roadmap, you'll be a voice in helping us shape its future role (or not!) within the game - and through that, what we should or should not offer.
Will Skilling XP or training methods be adjusted as a result of Treasure Hunter's removal?
Yes. The Experiments clearly showed the motivation for many MTX items is primarily driven by issues like skilling balance or poor options for training certain skills.
Fixing these issues isn't just about our new and returning players. It's also about serving our players who more highly value Treasure Hunter and the items we'll be removing. Over our Integrity Roadmap, we'll be making improvements directly targeted at making the core game feel better for you, while maintaining a healthy integrity-led balance in our approach to solutions.
Why are some items like Portables & Dwarven Tools on the Removed From Gameplay list when there's been requests for them to be added to Invention?
We have seen requests for us to keep certain items and offer them in new ways.
We do not believe these items fit the future vision for RuneScape in their current form. However, we will be openly exploring the role these items played in the game during our Integrity Roadmap work next year. We'll remain open to potentially introducing new gameplay focused items in a similar ethos, but with design changes that help them fit more in this new integrity-driven future for RuneScape.
We will also reduce the need for these items through other Integrity changes, such as our Skilling Rebalance work, to make them less essential than they are today.
Are systems like Daily Challenges being reworked?
Other than the removal of Treasure Hunter keys, Daily Challenges with XP benefits will continue to be available when these changes take place.
We will be looking at Daily Challenges as part of our Dailyscape Integrity Roadmap work, and as we mentioned above, you will play a part in shaping our future direction for their role in the game - if any.
Lucky items have unique appearances and have only been available from Treasure Hunter. Will we see these items make their way into regular gameplay?
Lucky Items will be removed from gameplay at the end of the grace period. We will be exploring releasing these visual variants as cosmetic options in future.
What happens to my TH currencies?
Oddments will be removed, as will any Treasure Hunter currencies you hold.
We will be looking at providing access to Treasure Hunter promotions with seasonal currency prior to its removal so you can use up anything you have left.
What's happening to RuneCoins?
RuneCoins will still be used, primarily for purchasing Cosmetics through the Marketplace. We are actively exploring solutions for direct real-money purchases via Marketplace in future.
Will you continue to have the Offerwall in any way - say for RuneCoins?
The Offerwall has been our way to provide additional routes to acquiring Keys for players. Despite the intent behind its existence, it’s not a part of the vision we have for how RuneScape represents itself going forward.
We are actively working towards a removal of this feature as soon as we can. We’ll announce further details as we have them.
What’s the future of Double XP?
We intend to keep Double XP as part of the RuneScape experience.
As promised back in September, we will be openly exploring a reduction in overall Double XP availability with the community next year. As a result, we will not be running our usual Winter Double XP event in February 2026.
This is a test to begin exploring feedback about reduced Double XP within RuneScape. We'll be carefully monitoring how this impacts the game, and your feedback, to decide our future approach. We will still host our usual Autumn Double XP this November, and our Spring Double XP next May.
Given we’re already introducing significant change in the coming months, we want you to know we will be approaching this cautiously. Even if this direction is popular, we may shift to a final consistent approach slowly to ensure our Integrity Roadmap fixes have put the game into the right place.
Are you doing this because of laws being worked on in the UK/EU?
No. There are no impending requirements that are forcing this change from either UK or EU legislation.
We are aware of the EU's work in this space, but everything is exploratory and undefined at this stage. These processes historically take many years to come into law, so even if they were to be defined in a way that would influence existing offerings, it is highly unlikely to be anytime soon.
These changes have only one motivation; the growth of the RuneScape community. We believe moving away from MTX reliance, fixing fundamental issues and listening to the feedback from our community on MTX leads to another 25 stronger years ahead for the game – despite the challenges that come with this change.
