Sharpen your strategies, but stay on your toes, not everything is as it seems, and you’ll need to adapt fast if you hope to survive.

A New Era is on the horizon
Begins January 19 2026

You have spoken!

With a staggering 124,985 votes in our recent vote, Treasure Hunter will leave RuneScape for good on January 19th 2026.

On this day, we will also be removing 225 Direct XP and Skilling related items from sale. There will be no more purchasable sources of Direct XP or items that disrupt the core gameplay and the player economy.

In addition, we’ll be investing heavily in a year-long Integrity Roadmap that targets the very heart of longstanding issues within the game – from UI, to visuals, to balance, and much more.

Going Home to Lumbridge
First Steps

While next January will be when the journey truly begins in earnest, we're making some very symbolic (but important!) changes today!

Lumbridge will once again be where players will set foot in Gielinor after tutorial island, ready to face the challenges ahead! But you may also notice some other changes.

We have been hard at work revising the Lumbridge area to declutter a lot of the odds and ends that have periodically found their way there. Dive into the patch notes below for all the juicy details but some quick cliff notes are

  • The return of the iconic Lumbridge castle walls
  • The removal of the Lumbridge Crater and restoration of the area's original identity
  • The relocation of Shattered Worlds temple, and the restoration of Lumbridge Swamp caves and Water Runecrating Altar to their original locations
  • The removal of the Nexus
  • An updated Lumbridge Sage who offers a lot more guidance and help for new players
Before Left, After Right

We’re taking time to restore Gielinor’s sense of place, refining layouts, reducing visual noise and ensuring every space feels intentional and alive. We hope you enjoy the new Lumbridge!

Mod Zact's Lunar Isle Graphical Update
Time flies

Mod Zact’s been busy during Game Jams, completely overhauling and polishing Lunar Isle’s environment bringing it from 2006 all the way into the modern era!

With no stone left unturned, dive in today and check out the new look!

Check-In Survey
Check it out

We’re always keen to hear your feedback, and regular surveys help us to gauge how the community is feeling and where we should be headed next. We’ve put together a check-in survey, a chance for you to share how you’ve been feeling about the news, updates, and changes that have rolled out throughout this year. Your feedback is vital in helping us shape what comes next!

Follow this link to share your thoughts.

This survey is available from November 14th until December 1st at 06:59pm GMT, so be sure to get your responses in before the deadline!

We’re also giving away £50 shopping vouchers to 4 participants who complete the survey in full. Vouchers can be spent at a selection of online retailers. The winners will be randomly selected from all participants and announced in an upcoming edition of This Week in RuneScape. Good luck!

DXP continues
In full swing until the 24th

Double XP is currently active and ends on Monday, November 24th at 12:00 PM Game Time.

Still plenty of time to make progress towards your goals! Check out the full details here! As a reminder there will not be a DXP event in February as usual as we continue exploring a reduction in overall DXP availability in line with our integrity changes.

Patch Notes
Fixes and Improvements in this Week's Game Update

Going Home to Lumbridge

  • New players land in Lumbridge
    • New accounts (other than Group Ironmen, who retain their route from Iron Enclave to the Iron Enclave Portal in Lumbridge, and Leagues accounts, who begin in Lumbridge courtyard) now begin their adventure at the Lumbridge lodestone, bypassing Burthorpe and Taverley paths.
      • The end of Tutorial Island and Davendale are suitably updated, unlocking and tutorialising the Lumbridge rather than Burthorpe lodestone.
    • Getting Iroh on Iron Enclave to downgrade you to standard mode now transitions to Lumbridge (rather than Burthorpe) lodestone.
    • Choosing "I have played very recently" at the "What is your experience with RuneScape?" prompt for new accounts no longer skips the tutorial.
      • Tutorial Island and Davendale have a Skip Tutorial in their options menu to willingly choose to do so with consent and confirmation.
    • Since there's no longer a transition from Tutorial Island to Burthorpe, the Burthorpe arrival cutscene and Mary Rancour's option to replay it have been removed.
  • Burthorpe and Taverley start points are now listed further down the Quest List's Area sort, to reflect starting in Lumbridge.
  • Lumbridge is now listed above Burthorpe in Death's respawn point menu.
  • The 9 Basic Challenges (which onboard to Daily Challenges) are now more generic objectives (e.g. any fish rather than crayfish) and less specific to Burthorpe.
  • Buffed the lifepoints and damage of Burthorpe trolls that even for Burthorpe path players were underbalanced (troll chuckers, shamans, brutes, Morningstar, Magic Stick and The Map in the Death Plateau quest).

Declutter Lumbridge Lodestone

  • The Lumbridge sage has learned some lessons from his OSRS counterpart, and now has a lot more dialogue options to assist new players, such as where to find quests, what monsters to fight, where to make money, find a bank, learn about navigation, as well as lodestones, tools and the tool belt, the quest list and skill list, local history, and the wiki.
  • Event noticeboards permanently mapped near Lumbridge, Varrock, Fort Forinthry, Tower of Voices lodestones, and near Draynor, Varrock, Falador, Edgeville banks have been removed.
  • The talking pair of inactive villagers south of Lumbridge lodestone have been removed.
  • The Iron Enclave portal north of Lumbridge lodestone is now only visible if your account can enter the portal.

Declutter Lumbridge Castle

  • Lumbridge castle's wall has been rebuilt, once again encircling the castle, with access points from the west gatehouse and east entrance.
  • A barrier has been reinstated between Lumbridge swamp and Lumbridge's town and forest.
  • Poll booths at a bank in Lumbridge, Varrock, Falador, Burthorpe, Catherby, Menaphos have been removed, since active voting can be accessed from the Community interface.
  • In Lumbridge courtyard, the sage's backpack is now only visible when the League's sage is visible, and the plaque's crimson pointlight is only visible when the plaque is visible. The large rock displayed to non-Leagues players instead of the plaque has been replaced with a less obtrusive set of barrels.
  • Duck Quest's debris now trails from Lumbridge's swamp through the cemetery rather than between Lumbridge castle's walls.
  • War supplies scenery near the west Lumbridge Castle kitchen door has been removed.
  • The clue scroll "Search the crate in the left-hand tower of Lumbridge Castle" has been clarified to "Search the crate in the southern tower at the entrance to Lumbridge Castle".
  • The Lumbridge worldmap text label has nudged a little to the north-west since the label's prior position rendered non-interactive the willow and rest musician icon near Lumbridge lodestone.

Declutter Lumbridge Swamp

  • The Shattered Worlds temple has been removed from Lumbridge swamp. Shattered Worlds is now accessed from a smaller site at the north-east beach of the Void Knights' Outpost.
    • Kenton Decarte's dialogue has been adapted to no longer refer to the entrance as a temple and correct relative directions to their inverse facing.
    • The Shattered Worlds host and quartermaster now have some dialogue in the first outpost investigation section of the Quiet Before the Swarm quest, since they're on the beach north of Captain Tyr.
    • Shattered Worlds now has a text label on the world map, since nearby Pest Control has one.
  • With the relocation of Shattered Worlds, the shape of the south coastline of Lumbridge swamp has been restored.
  • Thanks to the relocation of Shattered Worlds, the entrance to the Lumbridge swamp caves and the water runecrafting altar have moved back to south-west Lumbridge swamp, in locations somewhat reminiscent of their OSRS counterparts (with some drift due to larger scenery footprints).
    • The entrance to the Lumbridge swamp caves is once again facing north-east instead of south.
    • A pair of signs at the entrance to the Lumbridge swamp caves, warning of flammable gas and how to cope with wall beasts, have been reinstated.
    • A Map Link to RuneScape surface over Lumbridge swamp caves' exit rope, connecting to the Lumbridge Swamp caves entrance icon, has been added.
    • Logging out of The Mighty Fall quest's Lumbridge swamp caves instance, and tracking the Tears of Guthix quest/D&D no longer references a prior location of the Lumbridge swamp caves entrance.
    • A reference to the Lumbridge crater in Evil Dave's spellbook has been modified to better reflect the restoration of west Lumbridge forest.
    • The feedback message when using a talisman's Locate option is now an infobox rather than a player-chat mes.
    • A couple inconsistent coordinates of the Making History treasure in south-west Lumbridge swamp have been updated.
  • The Lost City adventurer quartet and their camp have moved from near Shattered Worlds to their original location north-west of Lumbridge swamp, and the leprechaun swamp tree a similar distance from their camp.
    • Some tree stumps have been added south of their camp, similar to OSRS' adventurers' camp, to visually storytell the quartet have been chopping down nearby trees without success.
    • Entity icon has been added to the leprechaun swamp tree's context menu so it's easier to distinguish from other trees.
    • The Lost City adventurers have been graphically updated.
  • The Nexus has been removed from Lumbridge swamp.
    • 'The Nexus Has You' Lumbridge beginner achievement (visit Ysondria at the Nexus) has been converted to 'Herald the Dawn' (claim a herald cape from the herald of Lumbridge). If the achievement has previously been completed, it'll remain complete.
    • Ysondria's medium challenge scroll (to count the number of mineable rocks in the Lumbridge copper/tin mine) has moved to Father Urhney, who will no doubt appreciate the frequent interruptions to his meditation. The clue anagram puzzle has changed from SOY DRAIN to HE ANY FURTHER.
    • The enchanted topaz (enlightened) amulet's "Nexus" option has changed to "Lumbridge Swamp", but otherwise functions identically.
    • The object descriptions and effect tooltips of enchanted silver teleport jewellery are now more consistent.
  • The well south of Lumbridge castle in the swamp has been removed, since the well in west Lumbridge forest has been reinstated.
  • 6 swamp frogs have been added to east Lumbridge swamp.
  • Swamp frogs in Lumbridge swamp have been graphically updated.
  • Nettles outside Father Urnhey's hut have been graphically updated.
  • The Fremennik warrior, shipmaster and longboat in Lumbridge swamp have been removed.
  • There are fewer giant rats in Lumbridge swamp with precisely three arrows in their backs.

Declutter Lumbridge East

  • The God statue east of Lumbridge has moved to north-east of Falador, in view of the crossroads overlook.
    • Copernicus' dialogue has been suitably adjusted.
    • Copernicus' repeatable content headicon is no longer visible in god statue scaffolding puzzles and Slayer instances.
  • A pair of Lumbridge guards on the bridge over the river Lum have moved to the goblin side of the bridge, as their former position might suggest the bridge was impassable.
    • Damaged floor tiles on the east side of Lum bridge have been repaired.
  • Jambon the piglet has found a new home with her porcine compadres in the Draynor pig pen.

Declutter Lumbridge Market

  • Lumbridge market has been tidied up, with fewer duplicate stalls and wandering NPCs, and the NPCs that stand in place and converse are now pickpocketable.
    • Also graphically updated the remaining 5 market citizens, 2 stall merchants, and master farmer (who also now wanders only a shorter distance from the seed stall) at Lumbridge market.
    • Since Lumbridge castle's wall has been reinstated, consequently removed less accessible pickpocketable men and women immediately north of Lumbridge castle, to focus pickpocketing and stall stealing in the Lumbridge market.
    • The wooden platform has been removed from the base of the south-west and north-east (when applicable) Lumbridge market vegetable stalls, as well as the equivalent vegetable stall in Catherby market. As a side-effect this has resolved an issue where a container clipped through this platform in Catherby.
    • A white, green, magenta and cyan pointlight without source of illumination from Lumbridge market has been removed.
  • The two training dummies at Lumbridge market (since it's no longer a combat academy and training dummies are available elsewhere, such as War's Retreat and Burthorpe training camp) have been removed.
    • The Blast and Hellfire hard Lumbridge task's objective has changed back from "Cast Fire Blast at a training dummy near Lumbridge market." to "Cast Fire Blast at one of the goblins or giant spiders in the Lumbridge area (including the Lumbridge catacombs and swamp)."
  • The Lumbridge fishing shop has been rotated so its entrance faces Lumbridge market, like the other adjacent shops, reinforcing the market as a place of importance. Since the fishing shop has a side door, it can still be accessed from the south.
  • The herald of Lumbridge has moved from near Lumbridge lodestone and bank chest to west of the market, and her pause between proclamations has tripled.
    • If you've completed the Herald the Dawn (formerly The Nexus Has You) achievement, the herald of Lumbridge now has a dialogue option to mute her overhead chat.
  • Removed 2013 Rebuildathon memorial fountain from Lumbridge.
  • The Saradominist priest and his family are no longer renting the upper level of Explorer Jack's house, south-west of Lumbridge market, and have moved on with their lives.
  • The Zamorakian herbalist and their family have finally tired of the nefarious rustlings in their cellar and moved on from Lumbridge.
  • Some untextured ground tiles along Lumbridge's foot paths have been corrected.

Declutter Lumbridge West

  • It's been over 12 years since the Battle of Lumbridge. Nature (and the Duke of Lumbridge's fairly taxing but taxingly fair reforestation initiative) have further reclaimed the Lumbridge crater. Adventurers with long memories will likely recognise certain signature elements in the rejuvenated forest west of Lumbridge.
    • Immediately north of the dirt road cutting through west Lumbridge forest is a ruined building on a hill, infested by spiders. There are also goblins.
    • A pack of giant rats loiter in the south-east corner of west Lumbridge forest.
    • Rabbits are still a thing, albeit (on account of the giant rats) fewer in number, including one called Squiggles.
    • Squiggles in west Lumbridge forest are now attackable like other rabbits, as nature intended.
    • A unicorn features in the south-west corner of the forest for no immediately apparent reason.
    • A notoriously aggressive mugger lurks in the south of the forest. He's properly annoying.
    • There are a few yew trees in west Lumbridge forest (just for yew).
  • Lumbridge's H.A.M. fanatics have replaced the trapdoor leading to their hideout. The trapdoor can be found at its precise location prior to the Battle of Lumbridge, in a ruin on a hill north-west of Lumbridge castle.
    • The old mine entrance east of Lumbridge has been cleared away.
    • Dialogue and quest journal in the One Small Favour once again describes the H.A.M. hideout as infested with spiders and goblins.
    • An animation issue when picking the lock of the H.A.M. The hideout entrance has been fixed.
    • Removed some wood slats from the upper level of the H.A.M. ruin for ease of clicking its trapdoor.
  • The Lumbridge farming tree patch is back at its original location, just west of Lumbridge castle. (If an amulet of nature was attuned to it, the amulet will teleport to saved coordinate until re-attuned.)
  • When the 'A Christmas Reunion' quest next activates, Aoife the pixie should be on the dirt road, and described accordingly.
  • Since the forest west of Lumbridge once again bears little resemblance to a crater, various accessible text referring to it as the Lumbridge crater (that isn't linked to a specific period in the storyline when it was a crater) has been updated to reference a forest west of Lumbridge.
  • By popular demand, when you have completed The World Wakes, the well in west Lumbridge forest becomes a memorial fountain, and the Saradominist preacher arrives on the scene to inform anyone who will listen that the Battle of Lumbridge happened.
  • A line of the Saradominist preacher's dialogue referring to west Lumbridge forest as a crater in the present tense has been corrected.

Declutter Lumbridge North-West

  • Remnants of a fence near the north road from Lumbridge to Draynor, south-west of Mill Lane Mill, have been adapted into a potato patch.
  • The duck pond north-west of Lumbridge forest has moved to a position north of the restored H.A.M. ruins, resembling its original location and shape.
  • The Easter hunt egg in the Lumbridge crater ("Found not far from a duck pond that sits upon a battlefield") has moved to the north duck pond ("Found not far from a duck pond north-west of a castle that feels like home").
  • Attempting to close the west gate of the wheat field in Draynor village no longer triggers Nothing Interesting Happens.
  • The feedback message when spamming gates is now a spam-filtered infobox rather than a player-chat mes.
  • A yew tree map icon has been added to the trio of yews south-east of Lumbridge's windmill.
  • Entering the chicken and sheep farm adjacent to Fred the Farmer's farmhouse is now sufficient to complete the Wait, That's Not a Sheep achievement.

Declutter Lumbridge and Beyond

  • To reduce overworld map clutter, particularly in F2P, 12 Fish Flingers fishermen and their D&D headicons have been removed (including the fisherman in Lumbridge swamp). 3 fishermen remain, in members' areas: Deep Sea Fishing hub, Fishing Guild entrance, and Isla Anglerine.
  • Removed the "News: Goblins are conducting a raid" broadcast that occurred every 30 minutes if not disabled, the D&D notification gameplay setting to disable it, and the worldmap icon indicating active goblin raids and subsequent dwarven black guards.
  • A feedback message when a F2Per interacts with some members' content now occurs before opening the membership benefits tab, instead of simultaneously.
  • Citizen dialogue in Lumbridge that referred to the 2013 Battle of Lumbridge and Lumbridge Rebuildathon as topics of recent interest has been minimised.
    • This affects the Lumbridge castle cook, Captain Harlan, Donie, Doomsayer, Duke Horacio, Explorer Jack, Father Aereck, Father Urhney, Fred the Farmer, the named and un-named Lumbridge guards, Hank, Hans, Herald of Lumbridge, Lumbridge Sage, Lactopher, Millie Miller, Man & Woman, Lumbridge general shopkeeper & assistant.
    • Issues in Donie's dialogue suggesting area quests, which referred to pre-rework versions of Rune Mysteries and What's Mine Is Yours, have been fixed. She and the Lumbridge sage also recommend additional quests, such as The Blood Pact.
    • A reference to completing Tasks for cash in Lachtopher's dialogue has been corrected.
    • A "RuneScape" when interacting with the trapdoor to Explorer Jack's cellar has been corrected to "Gielinor".
  • Citizen dialogue beyond Lumbridge that referred to the 2013 Battle of Lumbridge and Lumbridge Rebuildathon as topics of recent interest has been minimised.
    • This affects Aggie, Farmer, Fortunato, Miss Schism, Morgan, Ned, Town Crier, Wise Old Man in Draynor, King Roald and Aeonisig Raispher in Varrock, Sir Amik Varze in Falador, Seer in Seers' Village, Councillor Halgrive in Ardougne, the High Priest of Entrana, and Roavar in Canifis.
    • Miss Schism's dialogue now references "vampyres" instead of "vampires".
  • The 'Til Death Do Us Part crater near the entrance to Death's office north of Draynor has been cleaned up. These 2018 Halloween cutscenes can now be played from the statue of Death at the Empyrean Citadel, alongside Missing Presumed Death's cutscenes.
    • At the request of Mod Ramen, Victor the goblin (introduced in 'Til Death Do Us Part) has also ceased to be.
