Our focus, more than ever, is making sure every Membership type offers the best value possible in the content and features we deliver for RuneScape.
With a shift in focus for RuneScape, Premier still offers the best value subscription method – but many of the benefits are in direct conflict with our new design direction.
In January, we made some initial adjustments to coincide with the removal of Treasure Hunter and hundreds of items from sale – such as no longer offering Bonus Daily Keys & the MTX-item-laden Premier Vault.
As we move towards a redefined future for RuneScape, it’s time we take another pass on Premier Benefits – including how we can better distribute its gated benefits to all Members, no matter how you choose to subscribe.
We also have some news on some added value we’re going to restore to Premier too, without compromising on the values that will restore a bright future for RuneScape.
Benefits Changes & Redistribution
With these changes, we’re cleaning up a few more things that don’t make sense for RuneScape’s modern philosophy. Where it makes sense, we’re prioritising value from Premier to all Memberships so everyone can benefit, regardless of how they choose to subscribe.
Aura Redistribution & Closing The Loyalty Store
The Loyalty Store has been in an odd position for many years.
Investing in it – such as maintaining the old Solomon’s Store tech alongside the Marketplace – would take resources away from the game itself. Additionally, the Loyalty System essentially time-gates a variety of content, which includes most of the gameplay-benefitting Auras we intend to move away from.
With the removal of Auras, and no clear path forward for the Loyalty Store, we plan to take the Loyalty Store offline at the end of April. This will include discontinuing any Loyalty Points earned to date.
All cosmetic content from the Loyalty Store will be relocated into the Free Monthly Marketplace Drop cycles. Our intention with this solution is to balance availability of these items over time for all Members, while not undercutting the benefit of direct-access for those who acquired them using Loyalty Points.
Auras will also be removed or redistributed throughout the game. Find our early community proposal for your feedback here.
Free Boss Instances For All
We’ll be removing the buy in for boss instances later this year to make bossing even more accessible! This means the Weekly Free Boss Instance will be discontinued as every Member will now have unlimited Free Boss Instances.
VIP Worlds Become More Worlds For All Members
VIP Worlds are a smattering of exclusive Worlds accessible to Premier Members.
VIP Worlds represent another area where we can increase opportunities by reducing audience splitting between Membership types. We’re also conscious that gated worlds create a bit of an equity gap between Membership types too.
We want to increase in-game opportunities for players to meet and see each other as they play. Some of this will come through a wider world consolidation we plan to discuss soon, like changing the theme of “Dailyscape” centric Worlds.
Based on these goals, we’ll redistribute these to be additional Worlds accessible for all Members!
Monthly Drops & Premier Token Phase Out
With the recent changes, the Monthly Drops & Premier Tokens have lost a lot of their purpose and value. They also represent another differential between Membership types, which we feel is important to address.
As a result, both will be phased out on March 30th. All unclaimed monthly drops and Premier Tokens will be automatically granted to eligible accounts on their first login after the changes are implemented. The Premier Token Store will remain accessible until the end of 2026.
We are still evaluating how we will make past Premier cosmetics accessible after the end of this year. We’re keen to hear any thoughts on what you’d love to see here.
Premier Chat Badge
Every Member is important, regardless of subscription type. We feel the Premier Chat badge is an unnecessary distinction between players on top of the discount and extra cosmetic bonuses Premier members receive. As a result, we’ll be removing the blue star chat badge for Premier.
Added Value: Cosmetic+ Package
While our focus is on maximising Membership value for content and features for all, we recognise we have an established history with Premier benefits.
While we need to stick to a vision for the game that enables a thriving future, and any changes that it necessitates, we want to also respect those who have been with us on the journey.
This November, we’ll be expanding our yearly cosmetic refresh with brand new cosmetic items beyond the usual outfit, pet and cape. We’ll share more details later this year once we get to designing them, but our intent is to really level up our cosmetic bonuses to feel that extra bit generous and special.
12 Month Memberships will also still contain:
- Multiple months of free Membership value vs a standard monthly Membership
- 100 Bank Spaces, which are yours forever after subscribing to a 12 month Membership package once
The Cosmetic+ Package will be distributed to any active 12 Month Membership subscribers during our usual November refresh period.
An Updated Identity
As we have done when representing our vision for the future of the game, it’s only right we represent the shift in the approach to 12 Month Memberships clearly and transparently too.
Following the upcoming changes to Premier benefits, we will be rebranding Premier Membership to 12 Month Membership.
It should be clear 12 Month Memberships are predominantly about great value through the content and services we deliver, just like Monthly Memberships, but with a significant discount vs Monthly Memberships.
When We Will Make These Changes
For new 12 Month Memberships, we will no longer include the items detached from 12 Month Memberships as of 30th March 2026. If you buy a new 12 Month Membership or renew after this date, these features will no longer be available.
For existing 12 Month Memberships, we will no longer include the items detached on the same date. Outstanding Premier Monthly Drops & Premier Tokens will be awarded on this date.
A Final Note
Resetting our direction for RuneScape comes with a lot of change. We need to consider every aspect of RuneScape in this work – not just the changes to in-game content, but in how we create a more equitable experience no matter how you choose to be a Member.
If you’ve been a Premier Member with us over the past decade, we understand the benefits you were used to have been part of this shift. The intent behind these changes reflects priorities we all share – putting our effort into high value content roadmaps, restoring our core identity, making things more equitable and pushing to give this game the community it deserves.
