Patch Notes: Dungeoneering Remastered

Patch Notes: Dungeoneering Remastered

Dungeoneering is a much-beloved skill that was originally released back in 2010. Since its initial release, however, it has rarely received updates which has led to it becoming quite outdated - both in gameplay and graphics. In spite of this, it has remained one of the top pieces of content that you've wanted to see remastered, as we found during the 2025 Player Survey. As recently as a month ago the community backed Dungeoneering as the most upvoted content to be remastered. This update focuses on bringing that experience up to where it should be today. Less friction, clearer systems, better pacing, more meaningful rewards, and a much stronger reason to actually train Dungeoneering through Daemonheim again rather than feeling like you have to go elsewhere.

Dive into the full patch notes below!

General

  • Updated lighting, added VFX, and updated floor textures across all Dungeoneering floors.
  • Graphically updated Celestial robes.
  • Graphically updated hill giants.
  • Added skill doors for Archaeology and Invention.
  • Added examines to a variety of furniture within the Daemonheim castle and Dungeoneering floors.
  • Added tutorials to various interfaces, which can be replayed through the Info button on each interface:
    • Party interface
    • Complexity select
    • Floor select
    • Bound setup
    • Smuggler's storage

Balancing

  • Rebalanced floor experience.
    • The intention here is to make all floors worth doing at all levels, while still feeling a sense of progression from Frozen floors up to Warped floors.
    • Base experience is now calculated from the floor, combined with your Dungeoneering level - this is then affected by the modifiers visible on the end floor interface, to a maximum of 1020%:
Variable Min Boost Max Boost Note
Dungeon size 50% 850% Run large floors:
Small floors give a 50% boost
Medium floors give a 350% boost
Large floors give a 850% boost
Difficulty -15% 20% Select the recommended difficulty for your party size - equal to the number of players in your party
Bonus rooms 0% 10% Unlock bonus rooms within the dungeon
Mobs killed -10% 10% Kill mobs within the dungeon
Complexity -50% 0% Run high complexity:
Low complexity gives a -50% boost
High complexity gives a 0% boost
Floor XP Boost 0% 120% Complete unique floors and gain this boost every 5 floors completed
Deaths -24% 0% Don't die!
Each death is worth -6% which is applied after your other modifiers
These cap out at 4 deaths per floor
  • Increased Dungeoneering tokens to be given at 20% of floor experience.
  • Added milestone Dungeoneering tokens gained upon completing the last of each theme's floor for the first time.

  • Dungeoneering experience is now gained at 10% of the skill's experience when unlocking skill doors and performing skilling actions within Dungeoneering.
  • Adjusted some Dungeoneering token costs and level requirements for rewards. The tokens required to buy rewards, and the Dungeoneering level required, have been aligned for a better match of how many tokens you'd expect to have at that level (for example, previously, rewards may have had a low level requirement, but you wouldn't have acquired enough tokens to buy them until a much higher level).

Quality of Life

General

  • You will no longer have to bank before entering a dungeon.
  • Added icons to the dungeon map for certain features:
    • Skill doors
    • Key doors
    • Gatestones when dropped
  • Ironmen can now dungeoneer with non-ironmen. CGIM remains restricted to Dungeoneering only with their Competitive Ironman group.
  • "Your party found a key" and "Your party used a key" messages in Daemonheim now display the name of the key in the key's colour.
  • Entering the Daemonheim castle area now grants ironmen an Invite option when right-clicked, like other players.
  • Unlocking a key door or skill door in Dungeoneering will now automatically discover the adjacent room, saving the unlocker a click.
  • Unlocked key doors and unlocked skill doors now consistently use an Enter verb, instead of a blend of Open and Enter.
  • Removed complexity 2-5, and renamed complexity 1 & 6 to Low complexity and High complexity.
  • Keys in Dungeoneering now display an icon representing this key on the minimap.
  • Adjusted skill door requirements.
    • Removed "You need a [skill] level of [X] to do that" from Dungeoneering skill doors. You can attempt to open a skill door if you do not meet its level requirement, but are more likely to fail (and therefore take longer) if your modified level is lower than the skill door. If you fail you will automatically attempt the door again. Success is now guaranteed if you meet the level.
    • Removed damage from failing skill doors.
    • The bonus to your skill door level from a portent of passage, perfect juju Dungeoneering potion, and the permanent Daemonheim skill door unlock, are now described in more detail when applied, and in spam-filtered chat messages rather than over your avatar. When you are prevented from entering a skill door (such as requiring a tool), these are displayed over the door rather than your avatar.
  • Meilyr potion recipe pages in Dungeoneering now include a loot beam and a more distinctive minimap icon.
  • Brightened the potion shelves in the coloured recess puzzle room, and the bookcases in the coloured bookcases puzzle room.
  • Moved the dungeon exit room drop down from the hole in the floor, to a broken banister that places you back in the centre of Daemonheim castle.
  • Added a variety of map icons to amenities within Dungeoneering.
  • Added a new map icon for ritual sites to the City of Um and Ungael ritual sites, and the world map key.
  • Added a left-click 'make' option for unfinished Dungeoneering potions and vials of water, which now opens the Dungeoneering Herblore Make-X interface.
  • Added left-click options to ranges, for adding logs, lighting logs, and cooking, which now opens the Dungeoneering Cooking Make-X interface.
  • Added a number of new potions to Dungeoneering:
    • Overload
      • This can be made with a new secondary, a twisted root
    • Weak, regular, and strong Necromancy potions
    • Updated Artisan's potions to boost Invention
    • Updated Gatherer's potions to boost Archaeology
  • Reduced the group gatestone teleport requirement from level 64 to level 42 Magic.
  • Moved the sinkholes NPC a bit more into the camp.
  • Updated some dialogue for the Dungeoneering tutor to tell you more about the ring of kinship.
  • Updated the ring of kinship's class effects to all be passive effects, rather than needing to switch to each class to gain the effect.
    • As a result of this, any alternate rings of kinship have been removed.
  • Removed the confirmation to start a party when interacting with a dungeon entrance.
  • When a Dungeoneering party leader is informed why a party member is preventing the party from entering the dungeon, the party member is now also informed why, and the party leader is informed that they're informed.
    • If the reason is they need to dismiss their follower, the party member will also be prompted to dismiss their follower.
  • Updated the warped gorajan text colour to a more readable purple.

Puzzle Rooms

  • The following 23 Dungeoneering puzzles now cap their skill requirements at the skill's non-virtual max level or the party's level (whichever is lower): 3 & 10 Statue Weapon, Agility Maze, Barrel, Broken Plank Bridge, Collapsing Room, Coloured Recess, Enigmatic Hoardstalker, Fishing Ferret, Flip Tiles, Flower Roots, Fremennik Camp, Keystone Bridge, Grapple Tightrope, Hunter Ferret, Magical Construct, Poltergeist, Pondskaters, Ramokee Familiars, Return the Flow, Statue Bridge, Unhappy Ghost, Winch Bridge.
  • Sped up animations for bridge puzzle rooms.
  • Removed some free-to-play checks from Statue bridge, Unhappy ghost, Restore the flow, Enigmatic hoardstalker.
  • Updated messaging across the board to use info boxes when appropriate.
  • Removed delays when being damaged.
  • Removed any instances where you could lose an item midway through a puzzle due to failing a skill check. This applies to: Crossing bridges rock, Jammed bridge climbing hook, Crushed bridge rock, Crushed bridge keystone, Inconvenient planks plank, Walking the tightrope grapple, Walking the tightrope climbing hook, Magical construct block, Magical construct construct part, Statues block

Barrel puzzle

  • Added map blocking to both pairs of side barrels to improve player pathfinding.
  • Fixing the barrel is now slightly quicker and no longer prevented on F2P worlds.
  • Fixed barrel now fills twice as quickly.
  • Fixed barrel no longer drains when it is not connected to an expelling pipe. Consequently renamed Devouring pipes to Dry pipes.
  • Progress bar overlay now turns from orange to green when full (affects all Dungeoneering & saga content that uses this progress bar and keeps it onscreen when full).

Coloured bookcases

  • The four wall bookshelves have been renamed from Bookcase to Blue star bookshelf, Red triangle bookshelf, Green diamond bookshelf, and Yellow circle bookshelf, so the objective is easier to discern.
  • The four rotate-able bookcases can now be rotated clockwise and counter-clockwise.
  • Bookcases and bookshelves spit their books across the room twice as often.
  • To help keep track of puzzle progress, the type of book contained in a bookcase or bookshelf now appears over it.

Coloured ferrets

  • Reduced the distance ferrets can start from a pressure plate by one tile.
  • Coloured ferrets now move onto their pressure plate when adjacent, so you no longer need to move them precisely onto their pressure plate.
  • Added colour prefix to name of each ferret, so they're easier to distinguish if colour-blind.
  • When a ferret spawns on a pressure plate, and therefore doesn't need to be moved, the ferret no longer has a Scare option (and therefore isn't entity-highlighted, if you've enabled this accessibility setting), the pressure plate's description indicates it has been activated by that ferret, and the ferret floats above the pressure plate to reflect the pressure plate is triggered.
  • Coloured ferrets no longer periodically move a tile away from adjacent players. Instead, scaring a ferret now triggers this evasive behaviour, so you can more reliably guide the ferret onto its pressure plate. (If the destination will bring them closer to their pressure plate, they will also move up to 4 tiles.) When scared, if a ferret's evasive destination is blocked (such as if they've been scared into a corner of the room), scaring the ferret triggers the prior scare behaviour (look for an unblocked tile within 2-4 tiles in a random direction), to help get the ferret out of the corner.
  • Coloured ferrets can now be brute-forced. If you scare a ferret 20 times, it will henceforth flee toward its pressure plate in terror. You monster.

Coloured recess

  • Each pushable block now has a 25% chance of spawning on a pressure plate, and otherwise spawn adjacent.
  • Mixing liquids now has an "All" option that mixes each of the coloured vials you aren't currently carrying.
  • Shelves of liquids are now indicated with an apothecary potion icon on the minimap.
  • The Herblore skill check to mix liquids was always 99. It now uses the party's Herblore level.
  • Removed a members check from the Herblore skill check.

Enigmatic hoardstalker

  • Riddle is now output in chatbox

Fishing ferret

  • Fires now has left click option (this is not exclusive to this puzzle room) for cooking, and a right click option for bonfire functionality
  • Fishing will now repeat (note you can still fail) rather than a one and done (XP continues to be only for first fish however)

Flip tiles

  • Reduced delay when forcing/flipping tiles

Flower roots

  • Time to chop small plants reduced by 1.2 seconds.
  • Time to uproot a large plant is reduced by 4.8 seconds.
  • Chopping a small plant when it's the wrong colour no longer damages and delays the player.
  • Uprooting the large plant is no longer prevented on F2P worlds.
  • Uprooting the large plant now requires the same Woodcutting level as the small plants, instead of a different Farming level.

Follow the leader

  • Reduced delay in starting emotes
  • Removed resetting progress when doing the wrong emote

Guardian sphere

  • Reduced delay when jumping

Hunter ferret

  • Now checks for traps within 4 tiles of the ferret, instead of only finding traps on the same tile as the ferret.
  • When barehand-catching the ferret, you no longer have a 50% chance of being bitten even if you pass its Hunter skill check.
  • Displays its feedback messaging more prominently.
  • Chopping Dry branches is no longer affected by the Lumberjack Woodcutting animation override (which when enabled, adds 3 seconds to getting Dry logs).
  • When a hunter ferret is caught, this room's doors change from Unlock doors to Enter doors.
  • When skipping a hunter ferret room (such as with a lockmelter), any empty/full simple traps or hunter ferrets on the floor of the room are now removed, and placing simple traps or chopping the Dry branches in the completed room is prevented.

Magical construct

  • Feedback messages in the Magical Construct Dungeoneering puzzle are now clearer and more prominent.
  • The Magical Construct, once activated, now opens all the rune doors at a distance, then moves to their final position. (So you don't have to wait for the construct to complete a slow circuit of the room opening each door.)

Monolith

  • The Monolith puzzle in Dungeoneering now increases charge at twice its previous rate, therefore halving the potential completion time for this puzzle.

Poltergeist

  • Herb inscription is now output in chatbox

Pondskaters

  • Increased range for fishing the skaters from 1 to 2
  • Removed fail chance of getting key when fishing from correct pondskater

  • Updated the complexity interface.
  • Updated the floor select interface.

Necromancy

  • Added T1-T11 Necromancer robes, armguards, lanterns, necromantic runes, and ectoplasm to Dungeoneering.
    • Novite armguard and lantern can be purchased from the Smuggler.
    • Lower-tier equipment may be found on the starting room tables.
    • Equipment, runes, and ectoplasm may be dropped from various mobs in the dungeon.
    • T1-T10 equipment can be crafted with ensouled bars, ensouled cloth, and ensouled thread, once the Necromancy! quest has been completed.
      • Ingredients can be ensouled through a new mini ritual site in the starting room, using ink and candles bought from the Smuggler.
    • T11 equipment is dropped from the following bosses:
      • Armguard - Unholy cursebearer
      • Lantern - Skeletal Horde

    • Updated the Necrolord boss to use Necromancy.
    • Added Necromancy classes to the ring of kinship:
      • Necrolord: Increased accuracy with Necromancy weapons
      • Conjurer: Increased conjure duration
      • Soulweaver: Chance for Necromancy attacks to generate residual souls
      • Added a new achievement, 'Dungeon Necromancer', for maxing out these classes.
        • Added this as a requirement to the existing 'Dungeoneer Ring' achievement.

Bind/Storage System

  • Added a new storage system, 'Smuggler's storage', that is accessed via the Smuggler.
    • Starts with 3 available slots, increasing with levels:

      • Level 40 - 9 slots
      • Level 80 - 12 slots
      • Level 110 - All 15 slots
    • There are various restrictions as to what can be stored:
      • Bound items cannot be stored
      • Gatestones cannot be stored
      • Non-Dungeoneering items cannot be stored
      • Stacked items have a limit of 100
      • Certain puzzle items cannot be stored
  • Re-organised the Smuggler's chat tree.
  • The Smuggler now teleports into the boss room at the end of a dungeon, to give an easier opportunity to update binds and store items.
  • Updated the Bound setup interface.
    • Added lock icons to locked loadout slots, with tooltips to explain the level they're unlocked at.
    • Added various tooltips to the interface.
  • Added a fourth loadout to the bind system.
  • Increased the total number of possible bound items from 12 to 16.

Prestige System

  • Removed the Prestige System of old, and replaced it with a floor buff system.
  • Upon completing a unique floor, you will now gain one of 5 buffs:
    • Death Penalty Reduction +1%
    • Extra Resource Chance +2%
    • Skilling XP Boost +1%
    • Damage Reduction +1%
    • Large Floor XP Boost +5%
  • As with the old Prestige System, you will still get the buff & floor ticked off if you re-complete a floor but there are other floors incomplete in the same theme.
  • The buff you receive cycles through the list in order. You will start with the Death Penalty Reduction buff at 1%, with the next floor you complete providing +2% to the Extra Resource Chance buff.
  • Buffs are automatically reset once you have completed the number of floors available to you.
