The Essence of an Update

The art of Runecrafting is evolving and improving, now alongside crafting runes at altars and siphoning essence in the Runespan, you will now also be able to train by imbuing magical weapons! It's about time we reveal what’s coming with 110 Runecrafting including Time Runes for time-altering spells, the largest-ever Expansive Pouch, new utility-based magic, imbued eternal weapons, and the ultimate Masterwork Staff for endgame mages.

Like previous 110 updates, we’ve focused on refining the skill’s upper levels, specifically from 100 to 110. Throughout development, we’ve actively collaborated with the community via social channels—gathering suggestions, discussing design choices, and shaping the update together. Learning from past 110 expansions, we’ve combined your feedback with a strong emphasis on delivering what matters most to you.

Breaking the Hourglass

A blast from the past or a present from the future? Introducing the Time Rune! A new catalytic rune unlocked for creation at level 100 Runecrafting, that has the power to influence time.

In order to craft this new rune you will need to travel to the Time Rune Temple. However, you won't be able to jump in straight away as the Time ruins are a remnant of the distant past, a different period in time to the present.

You'll first need to anchor the temple to the ruins in the present day. As a reminder from your past or future self, don't forget to bring the Enchanted Key from either the Making History or Meeting History quests - you might just need it.

Once anchored you'll find yourself able to travel to the time temple in a mysterious pocket dimension. Time flows a little differently in this space, so keep an eye out! Thankfully what is constant is the Time Altar at the center where you can craft the new runes!

Time Will Tell

Skill mastery is a rare achievement in Gielinor and beyond, with only true pinoneers gaining access to level 100+ resources. The Time Rune remains a mystery to many in the RuneScape universe, behaving unlike any other. That’s why you won’t find Time talismans or tiaras or need them.

Also don't fret abyss runners, because once you've anchored the altar you will be able to access it via everyone's favourite horrorscape

Once you're all set up to craft the Time Runes you're probably gonna want a nice big bag to make bringing your essence there easier...

A big ,huge.. no EXPANSIVE Pouch!

Starting from 105 Runecrafting you'll be able to craft the new Expansive Pouch, a 70 slot essence pouch that doesn't degrade like previous pouches! It will take some figuring out though, maybe check with Runecrafting Guild Wizards for where to get started.

Got Time for a Quick Spell?

Once you have your hands on these new runes you will be able to use them to wield the powers of time yourself,

Maybe use this power to create a Paradox to help you gather more materials from different timestreams

Or Advance Time to manipulate the time stream of a few different pieces of content

Maybe you want to Crumble Undead with new powerful attacks, returning to RuneScape for the first time since 2012!

Or tap into a Temporarily Anomalyto empower your magic abilities with a chance to refresh their cooldowns.

You can also channel the power of the time rune to teleport to several spots around Gielinor that were suggested by players!

  • Western Kharazi Jungle
  • Mountain Camp
  • North-Western Anachronia
  • Eastern Anachronia
  • Northern Lost Grove

Now that those are all spelled out, let's move on to the next addition, crafting Magic weapons.

Rune-Crafting something magical.

One of the goals of this update was to introduce a brand-new magic weapon creation process, expanding the skill beyond Runecrafting at altars and Runespan exploration. Like the prior 110 updates, we’ve focused on refining the skill’s upper levels, specifically from 100 to 110 so this system is only available from skill level 100 onwards and will enable players to craft level 85/90 Magic weapons using Eternal Magic Logs and rune essence.

Easy as One, Two, Imbue

Weapon crafting in Runecrafting will follow a unique yet familiar approach, similar to the systems of Smithing and Fletching. Instead of working at a forge or workbench, players will start with an inert weapon fletched through Fletching and imbue it with power by sacrificing Rune Essence at Runecrafting altars, transferring magical energy into the weapon.

As you imbue the weapon, you'll gain experience and the weapon will go through several stages of progress:

  • The inert stage of the weapon is crafted via Fletching at level 100 for Wands/Orbs and 104 for Staves and acts as the base of the weapon. As the weapon is inert it cannot be equipped for use in combat.
  • You then take this inert weapon to a Runecrafting altar alongside Rune Essence in order to start imbuing it.
  • After imbuing with enough Rune Essence it will become a "Meagre" weapon which now that it has some magical power is a functional level 85 Magic weapon.
    • At this stage you can stop here and use the weapon for combat or continue to imbue it with more essence, note that if you do start imbuing you will no longer be able to wield this weapon until it reaches the "Saturated" stage.
  • Then as you continue to imbue essence into this weapon they will go through the following stages: Meagre→ Weak → Lesser → Moderate → Greater→ Saturated with each stage will request different amounts of essence.
    • Once you have imbued enough Rune Essence into a weapon to become "Saturated" it can then be equipped again this time as a level 90 weapon.
  • Finally you can take a Saturated weapon and ascend it via the Ourania Altar. This step is similar to burial or martial in Smithing and Fletching, and doesn't require any more essence.

Also as you level up Runecrafting from level 100 - 110 you will unlock additional bonuses to this weapon crafting system, including additional progress at elemental and catalytic altars, a chance to save essence while imbuing, additional experience when ascending and even some bonus free runes when you ascend the weapons.

Speaking of which...

Carry on my Ascended Son

When you have absolutely saturated a weapon with essence and imbued it to its highest level you can take it to the Ourania altar in order to ascend it.

Speaking of the Ourania altar, it has gotten a little bit of a facelift.

Ascending a weapon is a channeled process where you take the Saturated weapon and channel on the altar until it is fully ascended, this will destroy the weapon and give you a significant amount of Runecrafting XP, and after level 103 Runecrafting, some bonus runes as a keepsake.

Masterwork Staff

Reaching level 110 Runecrafting unlocks the ability to craft the Masterwork Staff! Pulling together your knowledge of Runecrafting, Smithing, Fletching and Crafting to create this powerful level 100 Staff through an intricate process, similar to crafting existing Masterwork equipment.

To begin, you’ll need to have completed a new achievement, “Crafting to your own Rune.” This involves crafting all three of the new Eternal Magic weapons and upgrading each all the way to their Saturated level.

The Runes have spoken

With 110 Runecrafting, you’ll go beyond crafting runes and siphoning in the Runespan—now, you can harness the power of imbuing magical weapons.

From Time Runes and time-bending spells to the largest-ever Expansive Pouch, powerful new utility magic, and the ultimate Masterwork Staff, there’s plenty to look forward to. The rune altars are humming with antici-pation! We look forward to seeing you all Imbuing, Ascending and having the time of your lives!
