With the completion of our MTX Experiments at the end of September, we wanted to drop a small check in to update you on what's going on and what to expect next.
First, A Thank You
When we reflected on these Experiments, the community participation has been outstanding.
Tens of thousands of you filled out surveys, almost all of which included the optional personal comments to explain your answers. Thousands of you contributed in the public community, sparking discussions and debate. Out of respect for that effort, we have read every single comment left in our surveys, and as many as we could find online.
From all of us on the RuneScape team, thank you for taking the time to contribute.
Our Current Status
We've learned a lot from these Experiments - from the potential benefits and reality of our direction, to understanding negative side effects it could have for some.
From those learnings, we're finalizing our plan for the future of the game. Our goal is a sustainable, Membership growth-led trajectory for the game.
While a significant reduction in MTX is a large part of this, we're thinking bigger. Our plans are also considering how we might address some of the core challenges in RuneScape - like UI, Visual Identity, Onboarding, Game Health and more.
We'll share a deeper look at our findings and takeaways on October 27th 2025.
What's Next?
We'll be sharing our plans publicly for final community validation. This will be a transparent, no holds barred level of player involvement where the decision to go ahead will be clearly validated (or not) by you. You'll see what we mean when we get there.
Either way, you'll hear about firm next steps in late October or early November at the very latest.
Change is Coming
While there have been negative side effects of our Experiments for some players, we have also learned just how much faith, trust and belief it can provide in the future of the game.
We are committed to this direction, more now than ever. In late October, we'll walk you through what we've learned, and all things going well, follow that shortly after with community-wide validation on our plans for the future of the game.
See you soon.
