Return to the Desert: Beneath Scabaras' Sands

The sands are stirring and corrupted scarab creatures have been sighted across the desert. The Pharaoh of Menaphos can't sit idly by and seeks assistance to find the God of isolation and wisdom. It is time to return to the Desert for a trilogy of quests leading up to the final confrontation with Amascut herself!

Beneath Scabaras' Sands is the first in this trio of quests and it will be kicking off the year on January 13th. Just one month away!

Attend the Menaphos throne room to catch up with some familiar faces and start this quest.

Requirements

Beneath Scabaras' Sands is the antepenultimate (real word I promise) quest in the Desert series, weaving together multiple storylines . To embark on this adventure, you’ll need the following skill levels and completed these quests:

  • Ode of the Devourer
  • 'Phite Club
  • 87 Slayer

These are two lengthy quest chains in their own rights and so before the launch of Ode of the Devourer we released a blog to help get you on the right track, check it out if you need some guidance on your way to the Gate of Elidinis!

Meanwhile, for 'Phite Club, you’ll be tasked with completing a wide array of quests from RuneScape's earlier years—32 in total (well, 31 and partial completion of Garden of Tranquility, to be precise).

That might sound like a lot—and it is—but there are only two larger hurdles you’ll need to overcome to be able to complete all those quests.

Menaphos Reputation System

Menaphos, the great city of gold, is a treasure trove of activities and opportunities unlocked as you progress through quests like The Jack of Spades. Gaining access to the city introduces you to its wealth of activities and the reputation system. Advancing through the reputation ranks unlocks a variety of rewards, including access to key quests such as Crocodile Tears, Our Man in the North, and Phite Club. Previously, these required reaching ranks 3, 6, and 9 respectively—a significant commitment for those starting today.

But rejoice! Starting Monday, December 16th, the reputation requirements for these quests will be removed.

When planning the Desert Finale, we wanted players to experience the complete narrative arc from start to finish. The reputation system, while valuable, felt like an unnecessary restriction for accessing certain quests. After careful review, we decided to remove the reputation requirements entirely, streamlining the process for a smoother and more enjoyable experience.

Although the requirements have been removed, the reputation system remains intact and continues to offer a wealth of rewards. The mentioned quests still provide increased reputation modifiers, so by completing them first, you can start earning reputation at an accelerated rate and then dive into all the city has to offer.

Skill Level Requirements

With the Reputation hurdle vaulted the next one is a bit more open to solution. In total for all the quest required to be ready you will need the following skill levels:

This is a total of 1017 skill levels spread over 18 skills, phew. Ordinarily this would be a lot of levels to ask but as it is spread out across a variety of skills it isn't as daunting as it first seems, and as you complete the laundry list of quests you will be earning an abundance of lamps and XP to help you chain to the next quest.

These are just a few suggestions to help you prepare for what’s coming next. RuneScape is an incredibly expansive game, so there are countless ways to gain experience and level up your skills—don’t feel bound to follow only one path to progress!
