Game Jam V - Summer Summit 2024

Game Jam V - Summer Summit 2024

J-Mods cooked, now it's time to start serving! Game Jam V projects are on the way!

Back in July we filled you in on the passion projects from our latest Game Jam. Our J-Mods got creative with new features, quests, and general improvements.

You can see all the projects from Game Jam V here, but today we want to talk about just a few standouts we’d like to bring to the game. If these projects pass the greenlight poll, you can expect to see them sooner than later – but that doesn’t mean the other Game Jam projects have fallen to the wayside. Don’t despair if your favourite hasn’t appeared here. It may still be on the way!

For now though, let’s see which Game Jam V pitches you can start looking forward to!

Collection Log

By Mods Husky, Curse and West

This project offers up multiple ways to improve your Collection Log experience, from updated interfaces to new HiScores.

Interface Rework

We'd like to make collection logging easier to track, so the team have designed a new interface to help. This interface will show how many unique items you've completed in each section of the Log front and centre, so it's super easy to check out your progress.

It will also display the 12 most recent items you've added to the Log, along with the dates you acquired them. Just like the regular Collection Log, we’ll make it repositionable and resizeable, helping you get a better view. If you’re a fan of the OG interface, you can keep using it – the regular Collection Log will still open by default, and this new one will be opened via the right-click menu.

Collection Ranks

Collection Ranks are a way to flex your Collection Log progress. You’ll be able to fully visualise your collecting journey and snag yourself a fancy cosmetic Staff and off-hand Collection Log item. We shared suggested thresholds for each Ranks in our original Game Jam blog, but here they are again:

  • Bronze: 100
  • Iron: 300
  • Steel: 500
  • Black: 700
  • Mithril: 900
  • Adamant: 1000
  • Rune: 1100
  • Dragon: 1200
  • Gilded: 1350 (90% of total log slots rounded down to the nearest 25)

Collection Log HiScores

We'd like to also give you the chance to show off your progression with a new Collection Log HiScores, just as we have for skilling, bosses and raids. Those who enjoy 'completionist' style gameplay are already doing this on third-party sites, so we'd like to give them an official way to flex those logs.

Collection Log Ironman Exceptions

Currently, the Collection Log only captures items gained after December 2018, and while untradeable items were automatically checked off on launch, any tradeable items were not. This means items Iron accounts collected before that date would need to be recollected, which could be quite the grind as they are unable to buy or trade them like main accounts could.

We're proposing allowing Iron players to use specific, whitelisted items to fill certain slots; tradeable items that were on the Log from launch. We would also accept alternative and upgraded versions of certain items where appropriate, such as a Zaryte Crossbow counting as an Armadyl Crossbow. We've already been working with high level community members in the unofficial Collection Log Discord server to put together the current whitelisted items. You can check them out for yourself by downloading this spreadsheet. We welcome any suggestions for changes and additions you’d like to see!

These exceptions will be available for Iron, Hardcore and Ultimate Iron players, but not Group Iron accounts, as Group accounts were launched after the log and should therefore already have their logs up to date.

Should we add a Collection Log ranking system to the game, as described in the blog? These ranks would be based on pre-determined thresholds and be dictated by the number of log slots you've checked off.

Should we add a Collection Log Summary interface, as described in the blog? This would provide a more detailed breakdown of your Collection, highlight recent additions and display your rank if Question #7 passes.

If Question #7 passes and we add Collection Log Ranks, should we add a cosmetic, main-hand staff as a reward, as described in the blog?

If Question #7 passes and we add Collection Log Ranks, should we add a cosmetic, off-hand book as a reward, as described in the blog?

Should we add Collection Log Hiscores, as described in the blog?

Should we allow Iron, Hardcore and Ultimate Iron accounts to use certain whitelisted items to fill Collection Log slots that they acquired prior to December 2018? These would be tradeable items that were on the log from launch.

Mini Menus

by Mods Lenny, Lykos and Kieren

We want to improve mini menus! Items, whether worn or in your Inventory, have 5-8 options on their right-click menu. However, some items need more than this, which means you spend loads of time clicking through different options in a dialogue menu.

Previously, tech limitations meant we were stuck with this system, but now, thanks to this team of devs working their magic, we can change everything...

Introducing the sub menu system! Finally, you’ll be able to access item options by simply hovering over the menu, as indicated by a handy little arrow. This is accessible from the Inventory, too!

This change also lets us adjust where the ‘use’ option appears, so we can get it out of the way when needed.

We’ve heard so much feedback over the years about the Max Cape and its maze of options. This update will tidy it all up, letting you teleport to Hosidius or switch out your Spellbook in just a couple of clicks. Items like the Amulet of Glory, the Construction Skill Cape, and the Ring of Dueling will also benefit from this change – and the possibilities are wide open for us to use this feature elsewhere.

Should we add Sub Menus to the game, as described in the blog? These would let you select options for actions like 'Rub' on jewellery without needing to open a dialogue box.

Bank Deposit Box RefreshK

By Mods Ash, Halo, and Arcane

Our next interface revamp looks at the Bank Deposit Box. We'd like to do away with the unusual 7x4 Inventory of the current Bank Deposit interface and make emptying your pockets more intuitive, convenient and mobile-friendly.

As an extra touch, we'd swap the 'Deposit Worn' and 'Loot Bag Deposit' icons round, to put an end to all those misclicks. We've also added an option to remove the prompt asking what quantity you want to deposit when using items on a Deposit Box, so you can now easily bank a whole Inventory with one interaction if you like!

Additionally, we'd like to add a new option to lock your Inventory slots in both the Bank and your Bank Deposit Box. You'd be able to lock and unlock your Inventory slots as you please with both a toggleable right-click option and a tap-friendly grid. If a slot is locked, the Bank or Deposit Box won't deposit items within that slot, even if you click it or deposit your whole Inventory by mistake.

Runecrafting at the ZMI Altar? Make your banking easier by locking your Rune Pouches. Or maybe you're slaying and need to bank quickly before you lose your spot. Lock your supplies, deposit your Inventory, and resupply. Easy!

Should we update the bank deposit box interface as described in the blog?

Should we add the option to lock inventory slots, as described in the blog? Locked inventory slots would not be deposited by the 'Deposit Inventory' button in the Bank or Deposit Box interface.

More POH Customisation

By Mods Jerv, West, Skylark, Harold and Rice

We feel it’s time to give Player Owned Houses a fresh lick of paint with some more customisation options!

If this pitch passes the poll, we'll add new options for the Altar room, Portal rooms and Combat room, plus an assortment of decorative pieces to adorn your space with.

We want to introduce themed sets so you can kit your house out in a cohesive aesthetic, starting with Varlamore, Prifddinas, Canifis and the Wilderness. We want to let you fill your decoration spots with hanging tapestries, potted plants, stone gargoyles, mounted weapons, and much more. You’ll also see more variety for your Altars and Combat Rings. Whatever your vibe, we're sure to have something for you!

This update will widen the reward space at all levels in your Construction journey, and allow houseproud players to add a more personal touch to their in-game home.

Should we add more POH customisation options to the game, as detailed in the blog?

If these four projects pass the polls, we’ll be launching a Community Consultation phase where you’ll have the chance to give us your feedback on all of them.

You can also discuss the Summit on the 2007Scape subreddit, the Steam forums, or the community-led OSRS Discord in the #gameupdate channel. For more info on the above content, check out the official Old School Wiki.
