Sailing Skill-Cape & Icon Shortlist

Sailing Skill-Cape & Icon Shortlist

While the heat wave might've eased up here, there's still a hot topic we need to talk about: the Sailing Skill Cape.

Our Old School art style is a key part of the game, capturing that nostalgic feel many of you cherish so dearly. Recently, we put it to you to help us design the Skill Cape and Icon for Sailing, and you've pulled through big time.

There's been a real display of talent from many of our entrants, from the Photoshop Pros to the MS Paint Picassos. They've all been genuinely wonderful to look at and our panel has had a really hard time narrowing it down to four finalists from the frankly ludicrous amount of entries we received.

We'd like to congratulate Kijkwijzer, JackScape, Naleek and GentleTractor for making it to the final four designs. So now it's over to you to vote for your favourite! You'll get your chance to vote in the Sailing Poll 2, dropping on August 8th and closing August 14th.

In case you've forgotten, here are the prizes up for grabs:

  • 1st place 12 months' membership and the Cape and Icon design made official!
  • 2nd place 6 months' membership
  • 3rd place 3 months' membership
  • 4th place 1 month's membership

As a disclaimer, remember that we plan to stay true to the Old School art style. This may mean that our Art team make a few tweaks to the winning entry to ensure it fits into our existing style, but we'll make as few changes as possible to the winning design.

Update: Thanks for all your feedback so far! We’ve been loving the discussion around which cape and icon will win! We’ve also seen the desire to mix and match icons & colour schemes, with potential separate polls for them. We’d like to give a quick update on that.

Due to UK competition laws, which we must strictly adhere to, this isn’t an option for us this time. Mixing and matching different entries would mean combining the work of two (or more) separate entrants, which creates complications around fair prize distribution. Our terms and conditions also prevent us from changing the rules of the competition at this stage.

We love the personal nature of the submissions, and the panel of judges worked hard to shortlist entries that felt fitting for Old School based on their design and overall style. While some small changes may need to be made as they are developed into in-game items, we do intend to honour the rules of the competition, and the designs will be voted on as they are shown in the blog.

We'll take this feedback into account and if we can change our approach for future competitions so there is more flexibility then we will! Until then, we hope you can appreciate the work from our lovely community by voting in the polls!

We're super excited to see how the community votes on this one, and we think all four designs would be worthy winners! This won't be the last Sailing related competition either, so keep your eyes peeled for the next one...

Oh, and just a little bit of housekeeping - We've updated the Poll 2 blog based on the feedback you guys gave, so check it out here!
