What is that shooting across the sky! It's the end of the year and what a year it has been!
Shooting Star Refresh
What's that in the sky
The Shooting Star D&D has been updated with new star locations, a revamped reward store, rebalanced mining XP and progress, and various quality-of-life improvements—all designed to enhance the overall experience!
Starry-eyed adventurers have long tracked mysterious meteorites streaking across Gielinor's skies, racing to their landing zones to gather Stardust and meet the Star Sprite in pursuit of cosmic rewards. This refresh retains those beloved core elements while building upon them and addressing some of the less stellar aspects with quality-of-life improvements, including:
- More variety in Star locations
- Rebalanced Mining Experience
- Streamlined progress to improve solo and group mining
- Public and portable telescopes for easier tracking
- Ease of access with new teleports
To get started meet up with Wizard Rosalina who can be found on the second floor of the Wizards' Tower researching the Shooting stars and the Stardust found mined from them.
You will still be using Telescopes to watch for Stars either your own, the new public telescopes found at Varrock Palace Library/the Observatory or the Wizards Tower or the new portable telescopes, then rushing off before mining to the center of them to meet the Star Sprite, who is looking very snazzy these days.
Now the difference is the Stardust you mine is no longer a daily capped resource, it is instead a currency and can be placed in your currency pouch, you also don't hand it into the Sprite but instead it can be used to teleport straight to Rosalina and purchase rewards from the brand new reward store!
The stars themselves have also gone through an update, first we have returned the Mining level requirement to each layer along with adding a new biggest star. A size 10 star will require a mining level of 100 to crack the first layer with each subsequent layer needing (star size * 10 mining levels), if you are early in your mining journey be sure to call in some seasoned adventurers to help you crack the first few layers so everyone benefits!
As mentioned the stardust is no longer capped but instead you will be able to mine up to 3 Stars per day, the Mining experience and the progress has been rebalanced so that regardless of how many players are involved you will be making steady progress and you can still receive a reward from the Star Sprite once per day, they will still give you a mining boost, runes, gold stone spirits and coins as before but it would be as if you had handed in the max 200 stardust.
Once you have gathered up some Stardust check the new rewards such as your very own Star Sprite pet.
The new Stargazer title
Portable Telescopes that allow you to locate stars from anywhere
And even permanent unlocks that increase the length of the Star Sprites double ore mining boost all the way up to an hour long! Don't worry you can still get Cosmic & Astral Runes along with Gold Stone Spirits like previously but you will also find a new bundle of gems that can be repeatedly purchased and even a Shooting Star teleport token! Speaking of teleports, your Magic Golem outfit will gain a once per day teleport to an active star as well so don't forget it!
Along with the new reward store there are new achievements such as "Friend of the Star Sprites" which unlocks a retro skin for the Sprite pet, and "Out of this World" for purchasing all unlockable rewards in the reward shop, this will be part of Trimmed Completionist Cape and have a 3 week grace period.
Check out the Patch notes section for a few more quality of life additions as well! Keep watching the stars!
Wrapping up 2024
This week in RuneScape goes on hiatus
With the festivities nipping at our heels, game updates and the weekly newspost "This Week in RuneScape" will be taking a brief reprieve.
- 23rd December - No Update, No News post
- 30th December - No Game Update, Server will have a short reset, No News post
- 6th January - No Update, Small News post
- 13th January - Regular Update, Regular News post
Between now and the 13th things will be a little lighter as the staff and teams all enjoy their well deserved Christmas holidays but there may still be some small things popping up periodically. We also wanted to shine a little light on some events and on goings that will continue over this time period.
December 25th - Christmas Village and the Giant Present
The Christmas Village is in full swing and will continue until January 6th, you will be able to engage with all the activities, quests and surrounding systems during this time but be sure to get any goals done before midnight on the 5th. Especially get your nice letters in and check in with Santa on the 22nd and 29th at the lodge for your chance at a Black Party hat and collect your Giant Gift between the 25th and the 6th!
January 4th - RuneScapes Anniversary
RuneScape will be 24 years old on January 4th and there will be little celebrations for it happening during January, these will kick off from the 4th and will be outlined in the TWIR on the 6th. Like most 24 year olds we aren't gonna be too loud this year and saving it for the 25th anniversary but we still wanted to do something to mark the occasion.
January 6th - Makeship God Plushies
You only have until midnight GMT, on 6th Jan to pre-order these fluffy deities and own them IRL. Remember, this is a limited production run and they wont be available to buy once pre-orders close , so don't miss your chance! Visit the Makeship store for full details now!
January 13th - Next Upcoming Quest
Beneath Scabaras' Sands is the first in a trio of quests we are calling the "Return to the Desert" series and it will be kicking off the year on January 13th, these quests will bring the Desert storyline to its finale with a showdown against Amascut so if you wanna be prepare for that you will need to get questing. Check out our recent prep blog here to familiarize yourself with what lies ahead.
Other Bits
Shaking off the snow and the Christmas dinner in January we will continue working on the Combat Mastery Achievements & 110 Runecrafting updates and will aim to have some insights into those projects early in the year, there are also some other ideas that will hopefully (fingers crossed not 100% locked in) arrive in January such as adding a transmute via divination to change boss weapon pieces into their counterparts, this has been a bit of a friction point for GIM and main players and so we hope to address this early in the year.
